This is a great maintainer for batteries that are in storage. I use it on my mower during the winter months to keep it fully charged. I like the fact that it is fully automatic so you don't need to set a timer and monitor it. Also it is a 3 amp -- most others are 2 amp. You will be happy with this maintainer.

My 12volt converter went out on my RV, so instead of spending 500 to have it replaced, I installed this on the battery. Since the RV is at a permanent lake site with electric, this does the job.

I am not a mechanic, but this will charge your battery faster than other trickle chargers, because it is 3 amps! No worry for overcharging as the red charging light goes out and another green light comes on indicating a full charge. Worth the money!

Nice black ,resilient case won't crack or break, good small size 6X2 5/8x3 3/8 inches deep, with nice bright front LED indicators that show if it is charging yellow ,trickle Green , or misconnected Red. I hung it from ceiling- with a stiff wire, using velcro cable ties to dress leads, plugs in near garage opener so I do not need a table or floor space, near L.H. door and wired the 4runner so that it can be connected without opening the hood. Unit comes with big battery alligator clamps, terminal lugs and a cigarette lighter adapter so that you can connect in various ways. The connectors are bullet, push friction connectors and I applied petroleum jelly so rubber will pull apart and disconnect- if pulled on. Put some paper signs to warn- Disconnect Charger, so I don't drive off with wires connected. Monitored the voltages and it charges to 14.30 volts ( Yellow LED-Charge Mode- 43 watts line power- 2.33 amps charge current through Tenma 72-7745 meter and then switches to Green LED-Trickle mode 0 watts {killawatt meter} 63 ma trickle current . As the battery terminal voltage falls from the computer and other loads the voltage declines to 13.18 volts and the cycle begins again as the unit automatically ladles energy to keep the battery at peak condition- but below the gassing voltage ( assume 14.50 VDC?). This is on a standard antimony battery, toyota 4 Runner 2004 SUV summer California 75 degrees morning line voltage 119.9VAC driven ~ 5 miles every 15 days. Previously smaller, wall-wart style that went for a year or so before failure. Opened it up and blown capacitor aluminum electrolytic 16 V and hazardous design with 120 VAC terminal against a component. So after I fired the B. Butler, tried this Schumacher Speed Charge SC-300A .Great Walmart price $24 and Your mileage may vary!

It's a good product meeting today's need. Will not over charge battery. There is a built in tester and trickle charger without doing anything. Hook up to the battery and this handy machine does the rest.

  • A. YES. . ..that benefit/feature is provided on unit. Earlier answer provided by junkers, technically is correct. If this charger was a Manual vs Automatic charger -- someone would have to be aware or monitor charging time, & then unplug/turn off unit when charging process was completed. Simply because, the earlier type manual chargers would maintain a constant & steady charge until manually shut down by user.

  • A. A Smart Engineer told me: It All Depends! Define your specific conditions that you anticipate. Yes, Schumacher claims that small lead-acid batteries, motorcycle, ATV, lawn tractor, watercraft... but I did not fully instrument for all conditions, different battery types, different cars, various loads........ .It senses the terminal voltage and switches to a 63 milliampere float charge mode at 14.3 volts DC. This is on a standard antimony battery, toyota 4 Runner 2004 SUV summer California 75 degrees morning line voltage 119.9VAC. So if you had a tiny AGM 12 v battery- disconnected -with no loads can the 63 ma I measured take the AGM battery above the gassing voltage - I DO NOT KNOW but would suspect that Schumacher - battery people who recommend it small lead-acid batteries, motorcycle, ATV, lawn tractor, watercraft...( these all have no fixed external loads and a virtually "open-circuit batteries) I might send them an email and ask them this specific question. Until then I rely on their claims as Smart Battery Dudes and Gals. In aerospace the specific trickle current value- that could take a battery up to the gassing point depends on the battery chemistry: Nickel cadmium, Nickel hydrogen, Lithium ion...... If they have a reasonable termination voltage - at that trip point all charging should cease until the terminal voltage falls below that point.
