    Very good charger

Bought one of these two years ago to replace dead "Die Hard" charger which died quite easily. Mostly using it to charge the deep cycle batteries on my boat but on occasion using it for the cars as well. It is not a "starter charger" so if the battery is completely dead it will take few hours to charge them enough to start the car. I am however impressed with the way it brings the batteries to a full charge - something not all chargers will do. I have tested the battery using water gravity tester and indeed the battery was fully charged. The only slight negative thing about this device is the fan - it is bit loud - you can hear it from about 20 feet away, but since I use it outdoors this is not a problem. Just remember to follow battery manufacturer recommendations for battery maintenance: when using this gizmo with a standard flooded battery it will be necessary to add distilled water to battery cells from time to time. This is normal - if you do not "loose" any water while charging the batteries then you are undercharging them which reduces the life of a battery.

I have had 2 chargers in 3 years, They are great at first ..but dont last.. Spend the money and get a better one

Detects 12V as 6V, thus not charging fully.

I bought this from the clearance isle at Walmart. First time I tried it, was during winter and maintenance mode is sub-par. I hook it up and it runs, but when I checked on it about a week later, the charger is still in maintenance mode but sitting at 94% charged. Had to unplug, plug back it for it to restart. Checked a couple days later, and there is was sitting idle at 98%. Took it back to Walmart and got another one (luckily still had a few left in the clearance isle). This time I had a dead battery on my Dodge truck. This thing keeps detecting it as a 6V battery, charges it to 100% on 6V. Disconnected, plugged back in, and it's back to 10% on 6V again! Tried it on the car and it detects it as a 6V battery! Has Schumacher quality went down hill in the last 10 - 15 years? They used to be great.

    great item

Works wonderfully, protects as it charges

Shuts off and does not restart

i connected this as a replacement for a Schumacher unit that was about 2 years old that had been fried by a lightning strike. the battery was charged and there was an automatic bilge pump for my boat attached. the unit shut off when the battery was fully charged and did not turn back on when the battery started to discharge in the "maintenance mode". the rep at Schumacher told me that all that i needed to do was to push any button and it would start again. not a good answer. had it for 2 days and returned it to walmart for a full refund.
