    it works as a blu ray and can get you on to netflix

    So when I bought this player I thought I was getting a super cool unit. However the problems started almost right away. After it went through its initial setup and updates. I tried to get onto Netflix and it then said I needed a update.... which was weird because it had just gone through all of them. It took forever. And by forever I mean I started it and walked away for ten minutes, came back and still had to wait. The next thing is the built in browser....... horrible thing that is useless without buying a some form of keyboard mouse combo that runs off of one USB port. Oh and by the way after it being open for more then a few minutes it will either pop up a screen saying something about running out of memory in the cache, or just freeze and force you to pull the plug (you have to unplug it cause just turning it off and on will just get you back to the frozen screen). Oh and the whole apps thing? I thought that would be its saving grace but it only uses Samsung's apps. . . Let me put it this way, they aren't the best.

    We've been using this player for 7 months now. It has 2 issues that are quite annoying. 1- when powering up for the first time every day we have to re-connect to the wireless. We don't have to re-enter the password - just go into setting and select our wireless, let it connect. We always use it first thing when we get home to play Pandora. We are able to go to the home screen, select Pandora, then it gives the network error message. Then have to go reconnect. It's annoying extra steps every day. 2 - speaking of annoying extra steps. Samsung pushes their own "Recommended Ap" to the home screen. You don't get to pick what Ap's show up on the Home Screen! When we first got it, Pandora was on the home screen, making our daily use of the Blu-ray easy. But on the most recent update, Samsung pushed THEIR recommended Ap to the home screen. So now extra steps #AGAIN# to get to what we use every day. Samsung is NOT being customer-focused here!!

    Bought this unit a month ago. Found it to be much better than my Panasonic Blue Ray player of 15 months ago. Has everything I needed. Don't have a 3D tv, so can't say about that. WIFI works great, plays AVI discs (homemade). Well satisfied. Will buy more Samsung products, instead of Pana.

    I use my bluray mainly to stream. I love that it connects to my Netflix, Hulu and Amazon accounts. Not having access to good cable and no DVR, I use my BluRay to catch up on TV I have missed plus to stream the excellent series' that Netflix, Hulu and Amazon offer. I'm not techie but this was simple to set up and use. I have a Samsung TV that is not SMART, but it might as well be when I have this SMART BluRay connected. I love it! The only negatives have more to do with the apps and not the BluRay. The Hulu app is extremely clunky but still usueable. I don't care for the vTuner App either. I just listen online because I have never gotten it to work the way I want it to. The online version is only marginally better. I'm such a nontechie that I can't even check the box below for Built-In speakers because I don't even know if my BluRay has built in speakers. If it does, they work great. :)

    I bought this as a replacement when our older 5-disc model finally gave up and decided to take the opportunity to upgrade our system to a smartTV system. I am using it in conjunction with a 6 Series 42" TV that is approximately 4 years old. So far, I am happy with the purchase. Though it plays DVDs well, the real value is the WiFi connection that allows us to view Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon OD videos. My only complaints about the unit are cheap remote (the dedicated Netflix button does not work after the system has been in sleep mode; the button layout is not intuitive or functional at all) and the consistency of the WiFi connection (it periodically drops, but not enough to cause too much frustration (3 times in 2 weeks)). Overall, I would recommend this to folks who are looking for an inexpensive upgrade that allows the extension of on-line viewing.

    I've found myself buying a lot of Samsung products of late, and this BluRay player did not disappoint! Over the past 2 years, I've purchased 2 Galaxy phones, a Galaxy Tab, and recently one of the newest Samsung TVs and wanted a BluRay player to go with it. I looked at the specs of several Samsung players, and decided to go with the F5900 for its feature set, WiFi, and looks. Setup was quick and easy and I am very pleased with the player so far. About 2 minutes after powering it up and having it connect to my WiFi network, it detected a new firmware release and downloaded and installed it. It's nice to be able to keep things up to date without jumping through hoops! So far, we've watched 7 BluRay titles on the player, and in all cases, the player produced perfect picture, sound, and no hiccups of any kind.

    I bought this product for two reasons: 1) I needed a Blu-ray player...and this one works flawlessly. 2) I wanted to use my NetFlix and Pandora accounts through my TV...which I now use almost daily. The bonus for me is that this device has Wi-Fi, so I can connect to the internet without additional cables or lines. Also, with the front USB port, I am able to connect a wireless keyboard/mouse combo device and surf the internet on my TV from my couch! Totally awesome! The only small negative is that on rare occasions, I am kicked off the internet or my NetFlix or Pandora program just stops. I think it is a Wi-Fi device...probably needs to be stronger. I know it's not my internet signal, because I never have that problem with my laptop or other Wi-Fi devices that connect to my internet.

    Great as a Blu-ray player. You can easily play videos and music from dvds, memory sticks, etc. I bought this particular player because it has wireless internet capabilities, an internal browser, and onboard apps. First, the wireless is very erratic and it looses connection to my wireless router too often. Other wireless devices in my home don't loose connection.. It has screen mirroring capabilities that constantly get disconnected from my phone and laptop. Because of the erratic internet connections, the apps hardly ever work. The internet browser is very cumbersome to use with the remote. I would not purchase this again without a hard wires internet connection, but the browser would still be just a hard to use with the remote.

    when i first got this i was happy with it... plays your dvds just fine, and if you only want to watch channels that samsung interfaces with it is good. today i wanted to add Indieflix to the channel lineup and found out that i cannot add a paid channel. roku does better for that... only i can't play dvd's on a roku. not happy. when i tried to add it i got the message that as of a certain date samsung will not allow you to add paid channels. guess i'll get an hdmi splitter so i can operate a roku AND the not so smart dvd player.... and another blankety blank remote!! i've been telling folks how wonderful this smart dvd player is but i'm going to have to eat my words.... bummer SAMSUNG

    Bought it at Christmas 2012 to add a web connection to my small Samsung HD TV. It does well playing DVDs and Blu-rays, but it is a horrible way to connect to the internet. Web browsing is a nightmare (click a letter wait 2-3 seconds, click a letter), the little free content available via 'Samsung Apps' is limited and buffers constantly on the simplest you tube video, Amazon is not even available. How can you have it on TVs older than this player and not offer it on the device than should turn any TV into a 'Smart Hub'. Get a cheap Blu-ray and buy a separate non-Samsung net appliance to stream the web. They all seem to figure out how to stream without the buffering and allow Amazon video!
