Good History Book

This book is very interesting and informative to the success of Wal~Mart. It explains what it takes to make a business go from good to great, "the essence of discounting". Sam Walton's secret is out in this book "most everything I've done I've copied from somebody else". Read it, you won't regret you did.

Great book, especially for all WalMart associates. Funny and very informative. Helps you get to know the real Sam Walton, and understand why we go through all the changes that we do.

This is a MUST READ!

A MUST READ! I have just finished this book that I would have read many years ago, had I known that it existed! I am 72 years old this year, and have lived my life feeding and motivating employees, and customers also, just like Sam Walton, and knew it worked when others did not believe me. Edward Deming, whom he referred to in his book, was my inspiration also as I developed teamwork in my years of managing and teaching healthcare workers, and near retirement, student nurses. You must adapt, and as I found myself putting lessons for my students on the "clouds,' that was something I never thought I would do, say 40 years ago. Sam would have been proud of that! Family involvement, I understand, as my husband and daughter operated popcorn machines and snow-cone machines for my health fairs, and employee days. Our daughter sure did not like putting together employee new hire packets, but now does them for her own business:-) I applaud this book and the wisdom therein! If for any reason, you are not a Walmart fan (can't understand that), you may change your mind while/after reading this book!

Marketing Textbook

I have read hundreds of books on business, Sam Walton's autobiography is one of the best without the academic jargon. It is simple, warm, and shows the character of a good and caring man. It also reveals the principles for success in business in a competitive environment. Years before they went bankrupt, I went into a competitors store and saw future failure in every area. They should have applied the thing in Sam's book instead of playing the Wall Street big-shots. I see the same thing in Central America. I wish this book was in Spanish; it could be the best gift to young people studying business there.
