SAFAVIEH Hold Pad Saved my expensive Rug!!!!!

This product is amazing. The rug I was having problems with was under my dining room table and in a high traffic area. The edges of the rug were constantly being walked on and shifted which caused the rug to buckle. This pad is the answer to this problem. You must first measure the pad to size and cut. We held it back from each edge by 1 inch. It is placed on the carpet first. You pull off a small amount of the backing at a time and roll the pad out as you peel. Both sides of the pad have the protective cover that has to be peeled off. The top of the pad we peeled off at one time after we had adhered it to the rug. We then rolled the rug and put the edge on the pad and unrolled it as we pressed it onto the pad. (Make sure the rug is running straight up the pad as you should not adjust it after it sits on the pad). Vacuum the rug onto the pad to make it adhere. We left the furniture off until the next morning. Now we have a rug that stays flat under the table and looks great. Best Product EVER!!!

After reading all the reviews and Q&A's, here's what worked for me. For my 5x3 area rug, I bought the 4x6 pad. Vacuum the w-w carpet where the area rug is to be placed. 1) Use adhesive tape to mark the corners of the area rug. 2) Trim the pad to fit the area rug. NOTE: Both sides of the pad will need to be pealed for the sticky to work, HOWEVER, the LESS STICKY SIDE goes on the w-w carpet, the MORE STICKY SIDE is attached to the underside of the area rug. 3) After trimming, remove the paper film from the LESS STICKY SIDE of the pad. 4) Place the LESS STICKY SIDE face down on the marked corners of the w-w carpet with two people stretching. Smooth the pad out flat. 5) Carefully remove the paper film from the MORE STICKY SIDE of the pad, which will now be facing up, ready for the area rug. 6) Place the area rug down on the MORE STICKY SIDE of the pad with two people stretching. 7) Do the "two-step shuffle" on the area rug to smooth it out flat.

I reviewed multiple pads and all of their reviews before I chose this product. I had already read that there were no instructions with the pad and how to install it before I ordered it. All of the reviews were correct - there are no instructions included with the pad. You need to peel the plastic all of one side and adhere it to the back of the rug. Then remove the plastic from the other side and "roll the rug to the floor." This is simple but requires two or three people to get a 5x8 rug laid down properly. I then ended up using a rolling pin to made sure it laid flat and securely on the carpet after vacuuming it and placing a stack of books on the corners. The rug is secured to the carpet. I do not understand how Safavieh believe anyone without instructions would know how to do this. Thank goodness for the internet and reviews and comments! I like it.

I purchased (4) carpets and read the reviews for this product looking for a solution to the bunching and moving of the carpets (which lie on top of carpet), but, this item is not doing what I expected. Perhaps, it was my fault that I followed the advice of a reviewer when they wrote it was not necessary to use the entire length under the carpet. Well, my carpets still shift having cut medium squares and placed pieces at corners and in the center. I suppose I should have used the entire roll for each carpet, rather than trying to save money by using the one roll for the 4-carpets. I tried to be fair in my rating, by blaming myself for cutting corners. Perhaps, it would work better if a full roll is used under each carpet.......... oh, I did remove the cellophane from both sides (as was reminded by a reviewer); nevertheless, I can not honestly rate this item any higher than I have done, and I dare not purchase more in an attempt to rectify what I have already experienced .......... Money wasted.

The area rug I bought to overlay my wall-to-wall had been rolled so tightly that it was still full of ripples and waves two weeks after I put it down. I researched rug pads/sticky pads and based on the majority of reviews, bought this one. It's been perfect. Just be sure you follow other reviewers' tips about peeling off one side of the plastic, putting it on the area rug first, then peeling off the second plastic sheet and laying the area rug on the carpet. Went off without a hitch and we stomped around on it for a few minutes. Rug is now perfectly flat and hasn't moved an inch. YAY!

I have bought rug-on-rug pad before and both sides were very sticky which left residue on both my carper and the area rug after removing the rug. Does this have adhesive on both sides? Or just one?

    • A. There is some adheasive but not real, really sticky that you can't manage it. I cut it to size, pealed the once sice off and attached that side to the back of the rug - then pealed the side to go on the carpet, flipped the area rug and placed it. Done.

    • A. We had they same problem with another type of rug pad; where it was sticky and left residue on the carpet. This Rug Pad has worked well for us and though it looks like the other kind, it is not sticky with an adhesive like substance. It does stay though!

    • A. It is on both sides so that the rug doesn't move around, which is good. Haven't had it long enough to know what it will do to the rug.

    • A. No it's not a sticker. It has a tacky surface on both sides certainly not enough to leave a residue but enough to hold the pad in place.

    • A. It is "sticky-like"on both sides, but it can be easily removed and it leaves no residue that I have seen yet. We laid it down almost two weeks ago. I just tried to lift it off the corner-I had no problem separating it and it left no residue. It has to be "sticky-like" on both sides because it has to hold to the carpet and to the rug on top.

I have an area rug that measures 60 x 84 inches. Would I be better off buying the 5 x 8 rug pad (which would be a little larger than the rug) and cutting it to fit exactly, or buying the 4 x 6 rug pad which would be a little smaller than the rug? Thank you!

    • A. I have these pads under all my area rugs. For odd sizes I usually buy up, put the pad down then the rug. That will allow you to easily cut off the extra which you should save to use in the future on smaller projects.

    • A. You can cut to fit exactly or about an inch smaller all the way around. I bought the bigger one and cut and used on several area rugs. You definately don't want to cut it too small or it won't work as well at all.

    • A. Definitely the smaller pad. You should only need to cut a square (perhaps 12inches square or 15inches square) to place under the center of the rug, or even two smaller (12inches square) squares. You do NOT need to have the pad the full dimensions of the rug.
