Just received it a few days ago, and haven't really used it enough. BUT I can tell you this; out of the box, I made a 12 minute recording, dragged and dropped the mp3 file from the px470 to the computer, then to a cd, WITH EASE. This unit, also has replaceable batteries (2 AAA). Other units with 'batteries never need replacing' translates to; 'buy another unit when built in battery no longer accepts a charge'. For me, after identifying my specific need; to verbally read (in code, names replaced with numbers) written notes then transfer them to temporary computer file, then drag and drop that file to a cd so various departments can stay up to date, the icd px470 seems to do the job, and I'm happy with it. How will I feel in 6 months after I've used it a while? If it's built well and we get a fair share of use out of it probably 5+ stars. As for right now, the px470 made me look good (especially in comparison to what I WAS doing). Identify your specific purpose when deciding which device to purchase. Typing in the Sony model numbers in youtube, check out the video reviews and read the comments, should help you decide like they helped me. PS Walmart had the best price (and I bought a $6 three year protection plan. Seemed the right thing to do). I didn't want or need anything complicated. No fancy gizmos, bells or whistles. This is a simple device that does what I need it to do...so far.
