Instructions: . Painting Conditions: Use outdoors or in a well-ventilated area such as an open garage. Use when temperature is between 50° -90°F (10°C - 32°C) and humidity is below 65% to ensure proper drying. Do not apply to galvanized metal. Avoid spraying in very windy, dusty conditions. Cover surrounding area to protect from spray mist. Preparation: Remove loose paint and rust with wire brush or sandpaper. Clean with soap and water, rinse and let dry. Priming: Is not required or recommended. Painting: Shake can vigorously for one minute after mixing ball begins to rattle. If mixing ball fails to rattle Do Not Strike. Contact Rust-Oleum. Shake often during use. Keep can the 8-12" from surface and spray in a steady back-and-forth motion, slightly overlapping each stroke. Apply 4 or more light coats to build desired coating thickness, followed by 1 medium coat to achieve a smooth final film. Note: Target 50% coverage on first coat. Allow coating to dry to a matte finish (about 5 minutes) between coats. More coats will result in a thicker coating which is easier to remove when desired. Allow coating to cure for 24 hours prior to washing. Dry & Recoat Times based on 70°F (20°C) and 50% relative humidity. Allow more time at cooler temperatures. Dries to the touch in 20 minutes, to handle in 1 hour. You can peel film off once the coating has fully cured. Naphtha may assist in the removal of film in intricate areas. This coating has been formulated for temporary use and is recommended to be removed after 3 months or less. Clean-up: When finished spraying, clear spray valve by turning can upside down and pushing spray button for 5 seconds. Allow wet paint to dry, once dry, peel away or clean up with Xylol or Naphtha. Throw empty cans in trash pickup. Do not burn or place in home compactor. Clogging: If valve clogs, twist and pull off spray tip and rinse it in a solvent such as Xylol or Naphtha. Do not stick a pin or other objects into the stem.

I LOVE this stuff!

I sprayed the rims of my Subaru STi to Gold (from silver) so they look like an STi is supposed to look. Very easy to prep wheels (thoroughly clean & degrease, smooth any burrs) and start with 40% coverage on 1st coat. Used lots of light coats from multiple angles with lots of overlapping. Ended up with 5-6 coats. THEY LOOK GREAT! People think they're new gold rims! Very forgiving of any drips AND TOUCH-UPS; covered curb rash excellently. Wears well on both summer and winter rims, only a few nicks. Resprayed 1 set of lugnuts after 2 years (5 mountings). Used 4 or 5 cans for TWO sets of 17" rims. Easier application & better results than with Plasti-Dip.

Very disappointed in the product

Product didn't cover very well. The label on the version i purchased said 5 square feet. I had less than 10 square feet to paint but needed three cans. After letting the painted parts set in the garage for two days I moved them outside. The paint began to shrink in the sun light and now needs removed since there is gaps at the edges and some areas are really bad.

Something is amiss here. Rust-Oleum Peel Coat is suitable for use on metal, plastic and glass surfaces. Four or more light coats should be applied about 5 minutes apart so the coating dries slightly between each coat. This is done to help build the desired thickness. This should then be followed up with a medium coat to achieve a smooth final film.

1. One can of Rust-Oleum Peel Coat covers approximately 8 square feet per can, Willy. We recommend measure the rims and determining the square footage that needs to be covered in order to accurately determine the amount you will need.

2. Ha ha I love it. They dodged the answer completely. I personally will say figure for a 24inch rim. That is 4sq feet on the high end. One can then does 2 coats. I am not sure how many coats are needed as there is no product description on what is required on the site, and I can only see the front of the can in the picture, so I'd guess you need 9 cans to get the 5 coats you would like to put on if you have a 24" rim. Since we are humans though, plan on 10 since the company uses machines to test square footage.

1. You are correct, TJ. If Rust-Oleum Automotive Peel Coat has been applied to a surface for more than 3 months, it will likely be difficult to remove. If this happens, use naptha solvent to assist in the removal.
