Worth the money

I not say this the best knife set as far as quality, but, look at the price! My mother has a more expensive set and there is a little more stainless steel in her set. The blades are slightly thicker and the rivets a little bigger, also, the plastic handles seem better quality. Yes both are plastic and will melt well under extreme heat. These knives are very sharp, did not take long for my finger to make the discovery. Take care. I can cut through a hot biscuit faster than it can burn my hand. They cut meat well and slice up apples for a pie with no trouble. I going to do as another person mentioned and sand the Logo off the pine wood block (that what it seems made of). This really is a good knife set with a good assortment of specialty knives and I feel they can last a lifetime, keeping the handles away from fire and too hot of surfaces. Mr. Ron backs them up, just return with postage paid $2.50 return envelope. He reserves the right to change that in the future. Hopefully we will never need it. But, wait! That's not all; You do get the "Ronco Rocker" at no extra cost. ;-) I hope the pictures work and help. The Ronco are in the center of my mother's knives.

Great Knife Set!

I'm not sure why there were so many bad reviews on this set. I read carefully through all of them, ordered them as one of my many Christmas gifts for my mother - ordered early just in case I needed to take them back to the store! When they arrived, the box was decently heavy : heavier than I thought it would be. Upon opening, I looked at the friend.. block looked exactly like the picture.. not a big emblem thing like many others received. Opened the knives, one by one : All sparkling and beautiful. Didn't get a chance to use them the first day. Next day.. cooked breakfast! Sliced through a package of frozen bacon with ease! Actually sliced our counter! [So be careful!] The steak knives didn't look all that sharp.. but we tried them out next time we got steak.. and WOW! Went right through! [Again, be careful, if you're using plastic plates, it will leaves scratches!]. Overall, I would say this was a very good purchase. I can't confirm the dishwasher thing, as we don't have one :: However they cleanup good by hand. No rust so far.. but we wash them right away as well. I would say if you're looking for a nice set of knives that won't hurt your pocketbook, these are hit. Just stay clear of the dishwasher!

fantastic

when i checked the reviews, i wasnt sure i was going to like the knives. but when i got them i was suprised. there are more knives than i can possibly use, the handles are good, not flimsy like 1 of the reviews said. the block that came with them is nice i totally love this set and when i checked other sets i cant find anything close in price. a set like this anywhere runs atleast 60 bucks and that was only at 1 store the average was 100.00 for a set this large. i also checked the website for this brand and the cost was the same but they wanted 27.00 s/h so not only is it a fantastic price but its a fantastic product with a fantastic price!!! i would advise anybody needing a knife set to buy this 1 hands down and dont waste time looking any further

these knives are awesome

These knives are the best. I tried some of the test that they try on TV like cutting through wood and metal all with the same knife and was still as sharp as the minute it came in the mail. I would say for the money thaes are by far the best knives you can buy.

Excellent addition to my kitchen

I was skeptical at first about this knife set. I read all the reviews and decided to purchase the product. I have to say it is a Great purchase. The blades are very sharp and the handles are sturdy. Your fingers will not slip and the knives have a comfortable grip. There is a wide assortment of knives for every purpose.

Great value, great product!

I just got these knives and love them. They are a great price, and I really like that they have a lifetime warranty. If anything ever breaks I send it in and they replace it. This set is bigger than my old set, but doesn't really take up any more space on my counter. They are sharp, and supposedly never go dull. My favorite knife is the Ronco Rocker, it really is easy to use.

Can't be beat for the price.

Let's understand one thing, they are $20 knives. If you're expecting these things to carve through a tomato under their own weight like a Jedi lightsaber through Darth's wrist, it's not going to happen. But, with a little effort, they do cut nicely. The showtime knife is a good all around knife and I find myself using it more than any of the others. With a little sawing action, it makes nice thin and even tomato slices without any crushing yet can handle slicing up a BBQ brisket or ribs with ease. The rocker knife is great for finely chopping up just about anything and the shears have come in handy for cutting open everything from food bags to those God forsaken hard plastic blister packages. As for the steak knives, I'm just happy to now have 6 that match instead of the silverware drawers full of various sizes that have been collected over the years from who knows where. All of them are keeping an edge well and cut the same as they did out of the box. My personal opinion is that you can't go wrong here, pull the trigger.
Like a lot of people I bought this set because it was on sale, and for the sale price I can't complain too much. I've only opened the set today and have not used them yet. This review is based on my initial impression only. 1) At least one of the knives looked dirty and had what looked like water spots on it. Did I get someone's used returned item?! I bought this after it came back to being in stock online when it was previously sold out. Did they get a new shipment in or did they resell returns?! I've tried to show this in the picture, you can see the grimy look around the logo and the spots on the blade. Even though I'm not impressed with this, I'll keep this set and get a new knife under warranty if and when I want to..... and put their lifetime warranty to a test. 2) Overall the metal blades "feel" thin, cheap, and flimsy. And the handles do not feel durable. I hope I'm wrong! The blades do not feel overwhelmingly sharp, I expected something "razor sharp" like the included documents said. 3) The block is nice, but pretty large. If you have limited / cramped counter space you might want to look for something else. For me this set is easily twice as big as the set it replaced, and it definitely shows! Also evaluate if you actually need all the knives it comes with. A lot of space is taken up for stuff I know I will never use! That did not influence my purchase though. 4) Not important, but a couple of the labels on the block for which knife goes where are misaligned and not in the proper places. Just slightly off from where they should be. I'll start to give these knives some use soon, and hope that I don't regret throwing my old set away!

Not good!

You've got to ask yourself, "Self, why are these knives so cheap? Why do some other brands charge at least 2 to 4 times as much for one knife as for the entire set?" Here's why. This is very bad steel. The knives are far too thin to safely use on most vegetables. They are stamped out of cheap stainless steel which does not take a decent edge, and are unsharpenable. Once you have used a really good knife you will understand. The handles are uncomfortable. The corners of the metal blade are completely squared, making it painful to use properly for any length of time. The only upside is that these are so cheap that you can buy lots of them when your blades become unuseable after 3 months or so. Pro: Cheap Con: Really cheap. Really really cheap Soap Box: You only really need two knives in your kitchen, anyway. A good 8" Chef knife (or santoku), and a paring knife. Expect to spend a good $80-$100 for a decent one. The paring knife at 3"-4", should cost $20-$40. Get these and follow the care instructions and you will have blades to pass down to your grandchildren.

Roncos service department people are rude.

I bought it as a Christmas gift and it was missing the bread knife but gave me two #5's. Ronco's service person on the phone cared less and just told me I had top deal with the store I bought it from. I bought it on line from Walmart because I am disabled and don't make it to the store very often so having to go return the item defeated my purpose. It was not Walmarts fault, but the fault of Ronco etc...yet again...Ronco cared less and was not going to help me in anyway.

by corollaobx
2. As described by the included documentation: "#23 Ronco Rocker Chef Knife Unique angled chef knife blade creates rocking motion for effortless chopping, dicing and mincing. Overall length 11-3/4" " It's basically a normal chef knife.
by YeahBoughtThis
3. It is a multi purpose use knife that can be used in almost any cutting situation from fruits and veggies to potatoes or meat. Very comfortable design.
by grnbelle
4. The Ronco Rocker is one of the "cleaver'" like knives. It is awesome! My husband used it last night to chop up lettuce and onions for our taco salads. This rocker knife is one that is best used for dicing and mincing as it is designed to effortlessly "rock" as you chop with it. It's awesome.
by Squashbug1
5. Have you ever watched a cooking show and seen them chop vegetables extremely fast? That's because of a knife like the rocker. I like it and am still practicing to be as fast as the pros.
by cch4bbh
