I have used Roku for years, including several different models. The best new thing of note is Roku has recently released The Roku Channel, which has hundreds of free movies. It is ad supported.Roku has just about every app you can imagine (YouTube/Pandora/Netflix/Amazon/Hulu/HBO Now) plus tons of more apps in many different categories. Here are some points to consider when deciding on which model of Roku to buy: 1)If you need to connect by WiFi in a room far away from your WiFi router,I would recommend the Roku Streaming Stick PLUS or Roku Ultra. 2)If you have a 4K TV,I would recommend the Roku Ultra or Roku Streaming Stick PLUS. 3)To search for content using your voice,go with either the Streaming Stick,Streaming Stick PLUS or Ultra. 4)If you want a wired ethernet connection,go with the Roku Ultra. 5)If you want to connect to an old TV with RCA/Composite audio/video jacks, you will need the Express PLUS 6)The Express models have a remote where it has to be pointed at the device, unlike the other Roku models. 7)If you are only going to buy one Roku device,I would recommend the Roku Ultra. The Ultra has many unique features that the other Roku models don't such as: -Gaming buttons to play video games -Remote finder to find a lost remote control -Ethernet port for a wired connection -Micro SD card slot -USB Port -Night listening mode (this lowers the volume of loud, explosive sounds and raises the volume of soft sounds like whispers.Very useful!) -Headphone jack on the remote for listening without disturbing others

Wrong remote. Un-usable.
Came with the wrong remote, I'm thinking one for one of the express models. Doesn't even have a pairing button so there's no way to pair the remote to the stick and actually use it.

Roku is great!!!

I worked in the Cable TV industry for 30 years. Without the Internet, they have nothing to offer!!! When 5 g is more available, it will put the Nail in their Coffin!!! Roku"s are incredible!!! I stream You Tube TV, and my wife loves NETFLIX!!! If you are paying for Cable or Satellite you are being Violated as a human being!!!

Great So Far

So far so great. My only gripe is I would like to see a mute button on the remote. The remote overall feels nice in your hand, the buttons feel nice to the rouch and they push/activate with just a gentlke touch. It is nice to have an updated remote, I bought a basic Roku about 4 years ago and it was okay, no problems with it to date, I just wanted an upgrade. The price was right and I already know that I am not going away from Roku anytime soon. Buy one, the program and product are well worth the money. I pick, chose and pay for what I want to watch. No needless channels to pay for that you will never watch. When cable/satelitte has an option where I can pick only the channels that I want I may migrate back over. Until then, no way; Roku is better for my limited watchng needs.

Hey Roku, how about MeTV. I like the old stuff, like the Donna Reed show.

Great Features

I've only had the streaming stick for a couple weeks and we love it , it's so much better than my old one . Only reason I'm giving it a 3 star rating is because it gets so hot ! It came across the screen that it was overheating so I had to unplug it , I've ordered the free hdmi extender and I hope that fixes the problem, if so I'd give it a 10 star rating if I could !

Nice product, does the job well

This is my second Roku. It does the job well but there are 2 concerns. One, it starts throwing overheating warning from day 1. I looked online and found that I am not the only one. Second, Roku sends a HDMI extender to solve this issue. This should have been included in original package.

Like roku, but this one has some overheating issue

This is my 3rd roku, I have the premium and the ultra which are both set top ones that I can run Ethernet too. I decided to go with the one that plugs into the tv this go around being in the bedroom. The tv sits on top of our dresser and is not enclosed and for whatever reason gets the overheating message within the first 30 minutes of being powered on. There is no obstructions or anything blocking it. We are hoping the free extender solves the issue or we may have to return it and get something else.

Otherwise

Wrong remote. Un-usable.

Came with the wrong remote, I'm thinking one for one of the express models. Doesn't even have a pairing button so there's no way to pair the remote to the stick and actually use it.

Overheating problem!

This is an upgrade from my 3 year old streaming stick. I never had a single problem with the old one (which has now gone to my brother) but this new one keeps showing that it is overheating. I've tried the tips I read on the site but they don't seem to help. I'm really not happy.

Wonderful Until Overheating

Took the offer to upgrade from my 2014 Purple Stick and the 3800X is definitely faster and smoother, no buffering problems at all. Used the 3800X the first night for 4 hours, flawless. The 2nd night of streaming, after 2 hours a notification appeared in the upper right corner screen stating that the unit was overheating. It plugs into the side of a Sony Bravia, it is not encased or covered, it has air circulation and the windows were open. Room temp was 75°. The Purple Stick never overheated in its 5 years of service, but the case is better and it has slits for ventilation. Roku software is wonderful, it deserves a much better case than what the 3800X is wearing. I'll try the free HDMI extender, but sincerely hope Roku redesigns their cases for better ventilation - assuming that is the whole problem. So, yes, I can recommend it, but with great reservation. Overheating is a big issue to me.

Poorly Made

I bought this yesterday and it started over heating within 10 minutes of use. We are longtime Roku users and we are so disappointed. We thought we were upgrading, but now we are scared to use them at all. Looks like we are Switching to Amazon.

If the extender they will send you for free will fix the issue, why not just include it with every Roku stick?

1. Full local stations are usually not available for free. But the Roku allows you to stream locals through apps such as PlayStation Vue, Hulu live, and others which cost about $40/mo.
