Absolutely Fantastic - Love It!
YAY! I got my Roku Stick and finished setting it all up, today! I went through and chose a bunch of my fave tv channels, to start out with - also looked over music channels, movie channels and various other free offerings (free games). I wish I had known about this alternative to cable, a lot sooner! The Roku "stick" is inexpensive, $29.00, with no monthly fees. It is so easy to install and set-up. Then watch just about anything. Some channels require payment, for a subscription (like Netflix, Hulu, BritBox, etc..) but there is so much content available, for FREE, it makes the Roku totally worth the $29.00 price tag. Plus, I finally cut the cord, with cable! Buh bye, crummy overpriced cable company! I will not miss you, or your monthly $150 bill, AT ALL!!! Love this Roku! Two thumbs up!!!

Saving with ROKU!

I have Charter cable/internet and I don't watch enough TV to justify having a box on every TV in the house nor to have hundreds of channels that are the same thing, sports/ religion/ news, repeated movies, that I don't want. So I got this ROKU EXPRESS. I have one on every secondary TV, cable only on the main TV. Before buying it, I made sure I could get the channels I want via ROKU, with my cable plan. I also have wall mounted TV's so again that box and the wires and plugs. Too messy for my taste. No points for the ROKU double stick tape, it doesn't stick except to the ROKU. That's okay, the power and device plug into the TV and the device is so tiny it balances on top of the TV without tape. The Express has every feature I need. The more expensive ROKU seems to be redundant with my cable plan. Not all of my TVs are smart but the ROKU makes them smart. I have one TV that is not compatible with add-on devices because it's too basic, no HDMI plug. Check yours before buying this, especially if it was a Black Friday special (which typically lacks features, you get what you pay for). I've used ROKU for years and I've never been disappointed. Highly recommend for quality, features and price, also for the money you'll save without all those extra cable boxes. The only down is that it takes a few seconds more to select your viewing choice when you turn the TV on. I don't care about that, you might.

Roku Channel shows hundreds of free movies

I have used Roku for years, including several different models. The best new thing of note is Roku has recently released The Roku Channel, which has hundreds of free movies. It is ad supported.Roku has just about every app you can think of (YouTube/Pandora/Netflix/Amazon/Hulu/HBO Now) plus tons of more apps in many different categories. Here are some points to consider when deciding on which model of Roku to buy: 1)If you need to connect by WiFi in a room far away from your WiFi router,I would recommend the Roku Streaming Stick PLUS or Roku Ultra. 2)If you have a 4K TV,I would recommend the Roku Ultra or Roku Streaming Stick PLUS. 3)To search for content using your voice,go with either the Streaming Stick,Streaming Stick PLUS or Ultra. 4)If you want a wired ethernet connection,go with the Roku Ultra. 5)If you want to connect to an old TV with RCA/Composite audio/video jacks, you will need the Express PLUS 6)The Express models have a remote where it has to be pointed at the device, unlike the other Roku models. 7)If you are only going to buy one Roku device,I would recommend the Roku Ultra. The Ultra has many unique features that the other Roku models don't such as: -Gaming buttons to play video games -Remote finder to find a lost remote control -Ethernet port for a wired connection -Micro SD card slot -USB Port -Night listening mode (this lowers the volume of loud, explosive sounds and raises the volume of soft sounds like whispers.Very useful!) -Headphone jack on the remote for listening without disturbing others

Great product!

I got this for a 2014 Samsung TV that doesn't have the latest streaming apps included for download. I've had it for a while now. Very nice product.

1. I subscribed with Xfinity for their app Xfinity instant TV which gives me the locals and a limited number of other channels as well as music stations for $10 a month I cut off the cable and switched over to the app and it saved me a bundle.
by DaveInVermont
2. Most cable providers have apps in the streaming/channel store you can load. Xfinity and spectrum do. In addition, someo f your local network channels provide their news and local programming on their own channels if they have a roku app. If all else fails, just add an antenna to your tv. All broadcasters still offer over-the-air local channel broadcasting for free as they always have.
by An anonymous customer
3. Not sure what "Too I Premiere" is. To answer your question though, there would have to be a Roku "channel" (basically an app) that had your local channels on it, and that's doubtful. The Roku is a small computer, and if you can't find those local channels already streaming on the internet with your PC or mobile device, the Roku isn't going to help you... it's not a tuner for off-air programming. If your city is large enough, they may provide a Roku channel where they stream their local news and weather, but rarely the network (ABC, NBC, CBS etc) live programming. Normally you get your local channels by connecting an antenna to the tuner on your TV (check the manual). Then you switch between "inputs" (tuner for locals or HDMI for what's on the Roku).
by Switchroom
4. To get your local channels you need to get an indoor antenna. There are a variety of types and you can get one for a very reasonable price. If you decided to subscribe to DirectTVNOW, it is a live streaming service as is SlingTV. One of those may have an option to be able to view your local channels. If you are wanting to get rid of cable (or as much as possible, i.e. the lowest package on cable and leave off the DVR because they add a significant charge for their DVR and the charge for the service and the taxes and fees, you could subscribe to one of the live streaming services above and get the indoor antenna if needed to pick up local channels. You can subscribe to any of the options through ROKU like Betflix, Amazon, Hulu, etc. A good blog to read is http://groundedreason.com - this blogger has a wealth of information and the blogger keeps everyone up to date on new options. Sign up for his newsletter to get the updates. I have a ROKU Express and subscribed to the live streaming channel

5. Roku offers a wide variety of apps. If you subscribe to cable or satellite, your provider may have an app available on Roku that would allow you to access all of the channels that you subscribe to. Additionally, the major networks have apps available on Roku - ABC, CBS, FOX and NBC. CBS requires a subscription to CBS All Access in order to view any full episodes. There is some free content offered with the other network apps, but you would need to sign in with a cable or satellite provider in order to access all of the content. There are also a variety of live streaming services offered, most of which offer a free trial period and offer local channels depending on where your location is. Another option would be to get an indoor antenna for your local channels and use the Roku for it's other free content (or even paid content like Hulu and Netflix).

6. I have CBS all access. It is 5.99 amonth and it is live local channel. It will pick up NBC and ABC but it is not live. You may be able to get them live thru Hulu but I havent tried it.
