Must have for new drivers
I recieved the resqme Quick Car Escape Tool Seatbelt Cutter and Window Breaker in Neon. I have had a few different brands of these over the years. The Resqme has to be my favorite! Luckily, I have never had the need to use any quick escape tool. Simply knowing I have it is good enough for me. The Resqme is definitely the lightest, most compact quick escape tool I have ever had, it even comes with it's own keychain so you'll always have it in your car, exactly where its needed. I love the simple yet effective design, it doesn't add much bulk or weight to my keys. It is definitely a conversation starter about safety and peace of mind. At least once a week someone asks me what this brightly colored device is that I carry around. I highly recommend the Resqme to anyone but especially to new or inexperienced drivers. My father gave me one when I got my first car along with explaining how to use it. I believe having an emergency plan in place incase of submersion is extremely important and will help you keep calm in an actual submerged situation. I will not go anywhere without my Resqme.

Clever concept, but hard to use
The Resqme Quick Car Escape Tool comes in an assortment of bright neon colors (mine was yellow), which makes it easy to spot on one's keychain (attached by the included split ring) or hanging from one's rear-view mirror (attached by the included zip tie). The ring or zip tie connect to a hole at the top of a clip which protects the very sharp "seatbelt cutter" blade (like a utility knife; my adult daughter offered the end of a strap on her laptop backpack for testing purposes, and the blade easily cut off the end of the strap). The black button at the other end of the Resqme is to be pressed against the car window firmly until a sharp metal point protrudes, which (from the manual) looks like it can then be used to cut open the car window. I needed my adult daughter's help to test the Resqme, however, because I was unable to remove the clip protecting the "seatbelt cutter" blade; my daughter was able to remove the clip, but it required a great deal of strength to do so -- something which might not be feasible in a stressful emergency situation when access to that blade would be most useful. As to the "window breaker" button, since we didn't have any spare glass to test that part on (and would have had to do some digging to fetch the goggles & thick gloves recommended for testing purposes), my daughter attempted striking the "window breaker" button against the paneled wall of her bedroom. She was able to get the metal tip of the "window breaker" button to pop out; however, given that motorists aren't likely to have goggles on hand in an emergency situation (and would only have thick gloves on during the winter months), we were concerned that breaking open a car window with this small device would be likely to cause glass shards to be propelled about the interior of the car, causing further injuries beyond whichever ones might have been caused by the accident which one would presumably have just been involved in. If this product were to be redesigned for easier use in emergency conditions, I would recommend replacing the hard-to-remove hard plastic clip with a soft but sturdy rubber or silicone sleeve for the Resqme (similar to a soft case for a smartphone, or a sheath for a knife). Until that is done, however, I unfortunately cannot recommend the Resqme to anyone other than young, physically fit drivers who are confident that they have the strength to get this device open, even in the emergency situations when it would be most needed.

Compact & bright escape tool

Received from spark review

This handy tool can save your life if your car or in a car that you need to escape from.

I saw this handy tool in a tv show and was amazed of its usefulness.

It is very small and can attach to any keychain or comes with a ziptie to hang from your mirror.

It can cut through a seat belt with its sharp blade or shatter a glass window with it sharp point.

Comes with an informational manual.

I haven't used it yet (thank God) but I have seen it in use.

potential life saving tool- a must to keep in car!

I received the resqme quick car escape tool, seatbelt cutter & window breaker this week. The instructions say to cut my seat belt first with the resqme cutter if I cannot unbuckle, then break corner of my side window with the black part of the resqme tool if I cannot roll your window down. I am to push the black head firmly into the corner of the side widow until the spike releases.

I decided to test it on a note pad to see how it works. Let me tell you, you need to press really, really hard to get the spike to release. In fact, the way I got it to release was to grasp the device inside my fist, and pound it down on the note pad as hard as I could to get the spike to release. I imagine if you are in an emergency situation, you would grab the tool just like that and do a quick jab naturally anyway, but it is always great to test it out on something first to see how much pressure you need. The spike went down into the notepad almost an inch.

Per instructions, it will only break tempered glass. On the bottom right corner of my vehicle window, there is writing that identifies my window glass as tempered. I understand that most all vehicles have an identification as to what type of glass is installed. If not, your dealership would know.

I have always wanted one of these because I actually have a niece that was driving on a road along a lake when it was raining out and she hydroplaned pretty far into the lake. She was in the water quicker than she had time to think and barely made it out of the car before it sank 15 feet down.

I feel much safer knowing I have a tool to assist me it cutting my way out of my seat belt if it were stuck and/or breaking my widow if would not roll down. The resqme quick car escape tool is a simple, inexpensive, but valuable emergency tool that everyone should have a in their vehicle, just in case!

good idea

This is a difficult product to test obviously. I did test the cutter on cardboard and thin rug. It is sharp enough. Of course, didn't test it on my seat belt, but am confident it will work. I watched the videos on how to use the window tool. Again, not easy to test, but video tests showed it worked well. This is a worthwhile tool to keep with you in the car. Accidents happen often and always good to be prepared. I find it a bit bulky for my keychain, so will be adding a kind of lanyard at hanging it on rearview mirror. It's an emergency tool and hopefully won't get used, but good idea to have around with other emergency items. . . first aid kit and small fire extinguisher, which I keep in car.
