Even better on Blu-ray!

I love Ray Harryhausen....and the many films he helped create. After spending the last 10 years collecting his movies, it was time to move up to Blu-ray starting with this collection. I am a film purist at heart and prefer movies in their original form. But I must admit that after viewing the three B/W films here in their colorized versions, I walked away very impressed. The quality of these remasters are the best I've ever seen these movies - in B/W or Color. And the great thing about them is you now have a choice on how to watch them. Another impressive thing about these films are their remastered 5.1 soundtracks. I was skeptical at first but was soon won over. Just listen to the spaceship fly-over early in "Earth vs..." to understand what I mean. My home theater loves these movies. The extras contained within are more than worth the price alone, even if some things are repeated on all discs. Just having these three early films remastered were enough to own the box set. But wait until you see and hear "The 7th Voyage Of Sinbad" on Blu-ray! I expected this disc to be not much better than my old Columbia Pictures DVD I've had for years. I was wrong. Immediately the Blu-ray looked richer and sharper. I A/B'd the Blu-ray with the DVD using 2 machines and saw an amazing difference in color and clarity. Yes, the "noise" was there as described by online critics but I wasn't disturbed by it. In fact, I was just happy to see my favorite Harryhausen film look so good! But wait there's more.... The sound! Finally I get to hear Bernard Herrmann's excellent score open up and spread out making it one of the most thrilling movie scores ever recorded. the original mono version always sounded flat and narrow but this 5.1 soundtrack fills the room with excitement and adventure. Perfect! 7th Voyages' extras are an added plus that takes you deeper inside the creative forces behind this excellent film. Everything contained is worth repeated watching. If you are a Ray Harryhausen fan, be sure to pick this box set up before it goes out-of-print. And at Walmart I got it for $30 which beats eBay prices for this same set by a country mile. Enjoy!
