I played this with my 4, 7, and 9-year-old's, and it was a blast! Lots of laughter and excitement ensued as the bug bumped around the gameboard. The objective is simple: move spoon, fork, or knife “gates” to get the bug through the maze and into your trap. Game play is simple, roll the die, if you roll a spoon, you move a spoon on the game board, same with knife and fork. The “?” on the die will allow you to move a “gate” of your choice. The bug is a nano Hexbug that is constantly vibrating its way around the maze, bumping into the “gates” and shifting directions. The first person to capture the bug in their trap, and thereby collect a bug token, five times wins. The instructions are easy and help you build the gameboard. It took us less than five minutes. The components of the game are great and it's a fun theme. This game is perfect for young ones, and has been played almost daily at our house, mostly by the 4-year-old. I received this game as part of a promotion in exchange for my honest opinion.

Bugs in the Kitchen Board Game
Fun and fast-paced!
Fun and fast-paced game! It it very well made with sturdy parts. My kids love the concept of playing a game with a Hex bug! The game is a bit too fast paced for my 6 year old though; she gets frustrated and it is hard for her to set up the utensils into the patterns to begin the game. My 8 year old loves the quickness of it and can easily arrange the utensils into the patterns for set up. *This product was received in exchange for a fair and honest review.
Fast Paced Learning Disguised as Play
My kids (age 6 and 7) like this game. It's very fast-paced and require you to think and act quickly! Players learn how to strategize which pattern to use to make the bug go a certain way. The game is learning disguised as play. It's exactly the kind of game I can feel good about letting my children play over and over. I received this game in exchange for my honest opinion.
Fast paced and FUN!
Very fast paced, and hubby, myself and our almost 6 year old would find ourselves mesmerized by the bug and had to remember to quickly pass the turn to the next person so everyone had a chance to win. Very easy to play and we had so much fun with it! Lots of laughs and excited yelling. Lots of quick thinking/action involved. I received this game in exchange for my honest opinion.
Fun for all ages
My family has had this game for a couple months now, and it is definitely a big hit. My kids are 10, 8, 6, and 4, and it is hard to find a game they all enjoy playing together (my 4 year old is still a Candyland kind of guy while my 10 year olds favorite game is Settlers of Catan). So for my wife and I, the biggest plus for this game is that it has enough strategy/action that our 10 year old will choose to play, while exciting enough and simple enough rules that our 4 year old can legitimately play on his own. We had a party a couple weeks back and the kids got it out and a bunch of our adult friends took the game over for about half an hour, so it definitely can appeal to a large age range. The game is very simple to set up and start playing. It is a fast paced game with enough randomness that no one is going to dominate. It seems very durable, it is definitely holding up well to heavy use and abuse so far. You could “cheat” by holding onto the die, so we have added a house rule to keep the die moving, but as a whole the gameplay is excellent. For my 4, 6, and 8 year olds this is one of their favorite games. I would say for our 10 year old and adults it is fun for a time, but probably too simple to play for long stretches. I wouldn't recommend for a household with no little ones. My 4 year old doesn't fully “get” the strategy yet, but still wins a bug token often enough to love playing. If you have someone in the 5-8 year range in your house, I would say this game is one of the best out there.
Get these bugs out of my KITCHEN!!
In short, this game is a great kids game that is fun for the whole family! If you have younger children this is a perfect fit for game night! The goal of this game is to get the bug into your trap five times. To do this you will take turns rolling the die and then turning one of the utensils shown on it 90 degrees. You then pass the die to the next player and they take their turn. That's it, super simple to learn and play! The components are all fantastic! The spoons, knives, and forks are nice thick plastic, the way the board fits together and the pieces click into place when you turn them is amazing! ALSO, don't forget about the HEX bug....what a perfect idea for this game, it totally makes the game! [This game was provided to me as part of a promotion]
Very Good Game!!
We received this as part of a promotion in exchange for an honest review...and honestly, you can NOT go wrong with this game! There is some simple assembly required when it is first opened, but once completed, it is ready to play at a moments notice after that. The suggested age for this game is 6+. However, our 4 yo loves to play. The quality of the components are incredible. The plastic utensils are sturdy and snap into place without any trouble during assembly. During play, they feel very secure and rotate beautifully. The cardboard score chips and 'door' pieces are thick and sturdy. Being a game geared towards younger children, we were very pleased with this and feel confident the game will withstand little hands. One minor inconvenience is the overall size of the box (approx 17"x12"x2"). It is a little larger than most our other games and doesn't fit in a standard cupboard (where we keep ours). Do not let the larger box deter you from getting this game! Just make sure you have a closet shelf or larger space for storage. Or just use it as a centerpiece. It will get a LOT of playtime!!
Great Family Game!
This game was a huge hit with my six year old and also enjoyable as a parent. The initial set up for the game, which requires an adult is extensive and time consuming however the following games were quick to set up. The rules are easy to understand - roll the dice and move the utensil but everyone caught on quickly that the faster you move and more strategic you are the more fun the game. There is a balance of luck and skill involved in this game as well as the novelty of the moving bug which kept kids excited and adults willing to play much longer than other board games we have played. I would recommend this game to other families and will definitely be buying it as a future gift! I received this game in exchange for my honest opinion.
My daughters love this game! It's fun, fast-paced, and the element of surprise in trying to predict which way the bug will go keeps things interesting. Even my (almost) 4 year old enjoys playing it. Arranging the utensils into different configurations is also entertaining; the game has four layouts to start with, but my kids enjoy getting creative with it and making up their own designs. It does take a while for any one player to catch 5 bugs and win the game, but that might be due to having younger players, so we've lowered it to 4 for the time being. Definitely a game that the kids will enjoy for a long time to come! I received this game in exchange for my honest opinion.
creepy, it's crawly and it's a lot of fun!
This game requires a bit of set up but once you get going is lots of face-paced fun. My friends and I thoroughly enjoyed this game and the fun little bug. We got lots of good laughs! The instructions were simple and clear. This game will be hours of fun! I do wish there was more than one die having more than 1 would make things a bit more frantic. Goggly eyes and a glow in the dark version would make this experience even better. "This item was received as part of a promotion"
