Ranglin' Rabbits

Ranglin' Rabbits is a crazy kids game. It involves lots of laughs, cheers, groans of frustration, and adorable kid clapping (you know: fingers spread wide, palms straight together, rapid clapping that melts your heart!). Essentially each dice is a rabbit, and you try to capture as many as you can into a four-sided fence enclosure. Sound easy? Well add to that dropping the handful of rabbit dice from half a foot off the surface, scared bunnies running all over the place, flicking rabbits into the enclosed area, moving fence pieces...and don't forget the explosions. Oh, the explosions. Just when you think you've got a good handle of things – BAM. Not anymore.     Each of the ten rabbits can be active, hiding, or sleeping. Hiding rabbits escape from you for that round (or so they think!). Sleeping rabbits can be carefully moved within the enclosure (but then they wake up!). Active rabbits are the tough ones. To wrangle them, you need to flick them or roll them. If they fall off the table, they go hide. If they roll to the hiding side of the dice, they go hide. If you roll the carrot, you get to lure a hiding rabbit back into play. Play through three rounds followed by a bonus round with a chance to get more rabbits wrangled.    It is SO dang cute watching young kids try to carefully flick a rabbit dice in the right direction and the proper distance. They scrunch up their faces, bite their tongue, maybe squint an eye, then flick...usually too hard or too soft (hence the groans). But when they get a good, solid flick right to the enclosure, they're sure satisfied!    Overall, I give Ranglin' Rabbits a 6 as one of those games to have in your collection to pull out with your young kids every so often that is fun to play a couple of games and put back on the shelf for a bit. There isn't a lot of learning or creativity involved, it's just for sheer fun. While I tend to prefer those games that make kids think, process, and analyze, sometimes they need to just be a kid and have fun!
