The tuner does receive digital signals and convert them to analog. It does have an autoscan feature to tune in the available stations. However, it does not have a "add" channel feature. If you have an aerial rotator, this makes getting alll channels almost impossible.

Convert over-the-air digital TV broadcasts for use on older analog TVs with the RCA DTA800b1 Digital-to-Analog Converter. It makes an ideal pick for TVs that aren't equipped with a digital ATSC tuner to receive transmissions. The RCA TV Tuner's compact size and dual-position (horizontal, or vertical with flip-out stand) design makes it an easy fit with any TV. Simply connect an antenna to the DTA800B1 then connect the DTA800B1's output to your TV. It's "Big Button" universal remote control allows you to control your converter box and TV with just one remote (works with most TV brands) from anywhere in the room. The RCA converter box also comes with a coaxial cable and remote control batteries. A snap to install and ready for immediate use, the device allows you to strengthen the incoming signals to produce a better picture quality. This lightweight box can sit on top of your set or off to the side while providing the reception you need.

WARNING!
This is the cheapest converter box that I've ever owned. I ended up having to return it to the store because it broke after just TWO weeks. Yes, you read that correctly. The very first converter box that I owned, back in June of 2009 when the switch to digital happened, lasted two years. Why these things can't last a lifetime I don't know, but I was so frustrated with the whole experience that I finally got cable, which I highly recommend to people who have also experienced difficulty with converter boxes. This one's remote didn't even have a menu option that displayed a schedule of shows or the the time of day. It's a cheap, worthless product that shouldn't be on the market.

I purchased this box for my grandmother and because, she has an older TV we purchased an antenna as well. This box was everything she hoped for and more. One we connected it to TV it worked right away. The channels come in very clear also.

very pleased, it does exactly what I wanted it for

I work in concrete building with no cable. This product allows me to watch football on Sundays which is all I wanted it for so therefore I am totally satisfied.

Exactly What I Needed

It works beautifully...no problems ... I'm getting more stations than I did in the past. I tried several other products and this works the best.

Works like it should just fine

We dropped our cable and bought this box in the store for our old analog TV. It searches for signals, converts them to digital, and works just as it should. People will run into antenna issues but that is not caused by this converter. We are still searching for proper antenna choice and placement to get all the channels available and will likely just have to put a large one in the attic or on the roof. Regarding the converter shutting down after four hours, that is a feature that can be changed. In the menu under settings is a choice for the shut-off timer. You can choose 4, 8, or 12 hour shut-off to conserve energy or turn the shut-off feature completely off and never be bothered by it again. In fact, the message that pops up on the screen telling you it shut down also tells you to go to settings to change the feature, if desired.

RCA Converter

I know alot of people who own these and have NO idea how to operate them. Been called upon to ' fix ' issues they have . No biggie . But myself , have found this converter to be very reliable . When a thunderstorm approaches , please unplug them from the power line . I'm looking at buying another one soon .

Great product for those who can not aford cable TV

This is a good product for those who cannot aford the high cost of cable TV and for those who want to economize in these hard finanical times.

Good For Seniors

I think this is a good product. I bought 40 boxes for my facility when the transition happened a few years ago. Of the 40, 30 are still running. The other 10 are due to residents carelessness. I like the fact that you can control your tv's power and volume only, reducing the potential for resident tampering with settings. It has big buttons, good for seniors. The menu is easy to follow. The drawback is the price. At $60 and without a $40 coupon, it's bad for seniors. I've also bought 10 AccessHD boxes. These are total garbage. They overheat, then don't work within 6 months. The customer service was nowhere to be found. Avoid AccessHD.

Very poor piece of equipment

My local Walmart only offers this one type now, so I was forced to buy this one when our Zenith one accidently dropped and broke. Zenith one was great, this RCA one is a piece of junk. Both placed in exact same spot with exact same antenae, this one does not get ABC or CBS like Zenith one did. Even other stations are hard to get in. This one also has a "feature" that if you are watching same channel for 4 hours it pops on a message that says due to inactivity it will now save power and shut off. This thing even cost $12 more! And to add insult to injury, Walmart doesnt even carry the Zenith one online anymore.

1. I'm not sure what area you are in but when I hooked up this converter to a small indoor antenna in a rural area, I received no signals. I then purchased a DB8 long range outdoor antenna from antennasdirect.com and was able to receive 30+ HD channels. Go to their website for more info and hints on getting better reception. :-)

1. the back of the converter has a cable connection in and a cable cable connection out . It also also has the red white and yellow phone jack type outputs and a connections for power through and adapter supplied with the converter

2. RCA Model DTA800B1 has a picture on the outside flap of the box where it opens which shows where to pug in everything in addition to the pamphlet. The connectors on the back of the box are marked for the TV and the antenna. The connections from the box to the TV are push on not screwed into place. This makes them much easier to connect.
