Good Idea

Gave as a Christmas Gift. It worked as it said, its a neat idea. Hard to get the Ice Cream out of the cylinder, but thats a minor issue. The picture makes it look like it comes with a bowl that matches, which it does not. Not a big deal, but it is a misleading. It was larger than I was expecting as well, but not a big deal either. I like that it has grooves and cut outs around the ball, makes it easy to hold and pass around. overall good product, think the price should come down a bit though. It is basically a novelty item after all. under $20.00 would be more reasonable.

Fun and Yummy

I really enjoy this ice cream maker. It's really easy to do and the ice cream is really good. When the ball is filled with all the ingredients and the ice it is fairly heavy. It would definately be hard for kids to toss around. I toss it around for exercise while making the ice cream. And the outside of the ball is not flat so it doesn't feel all that great when you catch it. You have to stop half way through and stir the ice cream, which I haven't been able to do yet without making a mess. But it's really fun and everyone thinks it's a neat idea. The ice cream is really good too. I would recommend this product, but I would suggest that if you have children playing with it that they roll it around.

Awesome Product!

Loved this ice cream maker! We gave it to my daughter for her 8th birthday, and we have all enjoyed it. It's great for camping or as a special treat for the kids. The recipes go from very simple (3 ingredients) to simple (4 - 5 ingredients). The ice cream is tasty, and usually takes only 15 minutes. My recommendation: make sure you scrape the frozen cream from the sides of the cylinder halfway through the rolling around process. You'll have a much more consistent texture and it won't take as long.

fun for grandchildren

The icecream balls were fun for the kids (and son-in-law!) during a beach trip. The piciture is misleading since there is NO green bowl with the item. We ordered 2 as gifts for both families so they could take them home. I recommend using 1/2 and 1/2. The icecream was soft-serve consistency, but can be removed from ball and placed in freezer for harder texture.

Fun..and delicious ice cream

I bought this product because I thought it would be fun for my family and friends, especially the grandchildren. The ball is very eye catching. And the ice cream we made in it was delicious! The children had no problem rolling it around, even the little ones under 3 years old. I would definitely recommend this fun ice cream maker to all my friends. In fact one of my friends said they had been given one as a gift and never used it, but after seeing us make ice cream on July the 4th this year, they left my house eager to use theirs too!

work for food

This unique ice cream maker is as described, homemade ice cream via play. The direction manual is very accurate and you should follow it to a t. You literally fill the end tube with ingredients you choose and the other end with ice and salt and start shaking the ball for the required time period. I made 2 batches so far and the batch made with heavy whipping cream was much better than the one made with half and half. The instructions say the end product will be creamier with whipping cream and it is true. The half and half created more of an ice milk product. The instructions are also accurate on it taking more time using a lighter milk product than when using a heavy cream. The 2 things I was not prepared for was how small the opening of the ice cream cylinder is and the fact you cannot get your hand far enough down the cylinder to get all the ice cream out. It is unfortunate because there is a good amount of ice cream in the bottom of the cylinder. I bought the pint sized one, so perhaps the quart sized one is larger, and thus you will not have this problem. The other thing I was not prepared for was when you first check on the progress you will see the ice cream first freezing to the side of the cylinder and, unless you really scrape it down into the less frozen mixture in the middle of the cylinder you will end up with mostly non-edible ice cream frozen to the side of the cylinder when you open it at final timing. Overall, the ball is fun for a family to do and allows each person to have a taste of homemade ice cream that is fresh and to your liking. I would recommend this product but with the above comments added.

Very easy

My husband and I tossed this thing back and forth and it was taking forever, until the cats saw what we were doing. We just sat this down on the floor and the cats had a ball (no pun intended). It was great ice cream and enough for the 2 of us. The cats were even more pleased when I made them a batch using a recipe I found online (dairy free, pet frozen treats). I have made the dairy free treats for the cats but io will try making it with soy milk soon to see if it gets firm.

A Surprise Hit!

I purchased the Ice Cream Ball for a recent camping trip with my children. We all had a "ball" with this thing. The kids enjoyed seeing the cream mixture really turn into ice cream. The surprising part was that the ice cream was very delicious. I agree with the above poster in that you need to scrape the sides of the cylinder about half way through the agitation, or else the center of the ice cream remains a little runny while the edges are frozen solid. As long as you scrape the sides, the ice cream turns out perfectly. I highly recommend the ice cream ball for camping and picnics.

great gift

i gave this to my grandson and he loves it . gives him a treat as well as something to do . he is little and it holds up to the misuse of a 5 yr old .

Family Fun

This product is more fun than we imagined - we have made ice cream just about everyday. It is fun creating new recipes and coming up with secret family recipe names! I thought it was a little pricey but we have had more than the dollar amount of a good time. The only thing is the spoon to scrape the sides after 10 minutes. All my wooden of plastic spoons were too wide. The company should make one to go with it!
