Pine Mountain Ultra Fire Starters are used in place of paper and small twigs, branches, and or kindling to start a fire in your hearth or fire pit. They actually leave less burn debris since only one starter package is used to start the fire. One package contains 6 fire starters. Instruction say to place the fire starter on the grate of the hearth, stack 2-3 logs on top of it and light as directed. The packaging shows the end of the fire starter being lite by a flame source. Labeling on the box states that this product will start your fire in 15 minutes and that the logs can even be wet. I used 2 dry, non split logs for my test. After 15 minutes had expired, I checked on the progress of the fire. Yes, this product does start the logs. I feel this is an excellent product in that you do not have to collect all the kindling supplies and start building the fire. You can go straight to adding some logs over the fire starter and get things underway. Another advantage is that it will start even wet logs. That is a plus, since my log pile is not covered. In Columbus, Ohio, November is the season to have fires burning in the hearth and is a welcome smell of wood when family arrives for Thanksgiving!
