Pilot Dash Cam
Quality of clarity, brightness, sharpness, and overall dependability is sound. Only drawbacks, no sound, and no playback on this particular model. Night vision while driving is no problem as headlights from oncoming vehicles does not white out the camera. While daytime driving is sharp as can be. For the price installed two one on rear mirror bracket and one on the back windshield, to protect me against rear-end collision.

Worked but the sd card didn't
The camera itself was plugged in and charged as the instructions outlined. After about 15 minutes of charging I picked it up and burned my fingers! The SD card had failed and overheated. This is the 4gb card that comes with the camera. I tried pulling the card out and again burned my finger. Not a serious burn but just uncomfortable. I replaced the card with one of my own, just to make sure the card was at fault and not the camera. It worked fine. I considered taking the whole unit back but decided not to. I would have to wait to receive another camera and card and I was on my way out of town. The camera seems to be working just fine. Easy to operate and although the screen is small, I can see it well enough. Now if only I can return the bad card for a new one I'd be really happy.

Great little Dash cam !

Great little cam, clear recording , smooth .. and voice is just about right ... just plug into computer and see all ur recordings ... Thinking about buying another for recording behind me as well :)

Pilot Dash Cam

Ordered this dash cam online and picked it up the same day at my local Walmart. Tried it out the next day and it worked the way I hoped it would. Suction cup sticks very well to windshield. Easy to operate and takes very clear, wide angle video. I leave the microphone turned off because I don't need to hear radio or conversations. 4Mb memory card good for about 24 minutes when video set on medium resolution (1080) and audio off. My car 12 volt power source is only powered up when ignition is on, so the camera automatically turns on and off with ignition which I find convenient. I really bought it to use in my motorhome to record my travels and unusual happenings like the turkey that hit my windshield and the car that cut me off at an intersection that almost caused an accident. Camera does everything I need and a very reasonable price.

Dash Cam Installation

I installed this dash cam in my 2004 Honda Accord mounted on the dash just infront of the driver, between the windshield and steering wheel. The dash cam setup options include an image invert, so the camera and display record correctly for the mounting position. I was most concerned about the summer heat (~180 degrees F) damaging the dash cam, but after four weeks of 100F degree days, all seems ok! I used a class 10 32 GB microSD chip and that memory chip seems to survive the heat nicely--Time will tell! Also, I used an Add-A-Circuit vehicle fuse block tap device to find and hard-wire a switched 12 volt source to power the dash cam when the ignition was on. This switched power seems critical for proper operation to trigger the dash cam to record when in motion.

Great Value

I was surprised at how easy it was to install & use. I used the bike connection it came with to hang it from my rear view mirror on my 2015 Ford Fiesta. The suction cup was not doing it for me. I have maybe 900 miles a year, but there have been a few times people make a wide turn & have almost hit me. The camera can verify my side. It is a good picture & comes off with little effort so I can watch footage on my computer. Easy to hook back up on next trip to store. Played with the menu a few times & figured it out. Not rocket science for this 70 year old.

1. I haven't tried using a 64 GB on this unit. but I've been using a 32GB microSD memory card on this device for more than a year now. So far it has not malfunctioned nor have I encountered any prioblem with it up to now.
by jaycris26
2. This item does not have playback features.
by CommunityAnswer
3. Yes, you can playback the saved files. But your screen is very small, and the files are not numbered. Best to transfer your files by removing the SD card and inserting it in a computer; there you can see the times and numbers.
by Maven
4. Either, but on a computer is preferred. Keep in mind that if you play back on the dash cam, it's only a 1.5" screen, and that the volume is low and rather tinny.
by RJfromNY
5. You can play back your videos on the cam itself and the computer. The playbacks seem to play nice on the camera itself. But the computer might have a different story. Mine had some FPS problems. Frames per second

6. The only output for video is mini-USB to USB.

1. I have had mine work without being plugged in but mind ya it wont last long the battery life when in use is about 20 mins but i cant tell ya for sure how long but i had my car park in front of my place and let it on and it lasted alot longer than 20 mins...mind ya i dont know how the thing really works so it might have been recording and it might not. I got me a portable battery charger and it will stay charged for quite a while with it plugged into it.....will leave more feedback as things progress.

2. The Pilot has an internal battery. It seems to be good for about 15-20 minutes.
by TortieMan
3. It has an internal battery but only good for about 20 minutes.
by DakotaFlameRider
4. NOT always. Most of the time I get low battery errors and the cam refuses to start even when plugged into to 12 v car socket. Buyer beware
by CHRIS
5. Yes, this device must be plugged in to work.
by CommunityAnswer
6. It has a battery and will work for about an hour unplugged. There are settings and it seems like if you tell it to turn the display off after 3 minutes, you can make the battery last about an hour.
