Awesome movie

This movie is a must see. It has a very good story and the fact that is it true only adds to it. It will draw you in and you will feel the pain & joy she does.

Cruelty & Lies (aka Religion) to this lovely Lady.

Great story and acting! Judi Dench can do NO wrong! also this is a lovely story about a mother looking for her son and all the struggles that came with the journey, btw this is NOT a movie that tries to bash religion,it only shows it's true colors which by now most of us know are not very "diverse" if you know what I mean,to religious people everyone else is either "right" or "wrong" (the latest if you don't share their same views of course) so don't let the negative reviews stray you away from this masterpiece of a movie just because they don't agree with anybody who is different than them. 5 STARS ALL THE WAY!

Awesome Thought Provoking Film

Philomena is based on the book "The Lost Child of Philomena Lee" by Martin Sixsmith. A true story about an Irish woman searching for the son she gave birth to nearly 50 years ago. Philomena a pregnant teenager was abolished to a convent, mercilessly worked to pay her "debt" to Catholic Nuns in their laundries for four years. Ultimately, was forced to give up her out-of-wedlock boy as penance. Though never given a chance to say goodbye to her son or even be told he would be adopted, she has never forgotten him or stopped trying to find him. Some might claim this movie has an anti-Catholic agenda. Quite the contrary, Philomena's steadfast insistence on forgiving the narrow views of the morality of unwed motherhood and her ability to forgive cruelty that would infuriate others is in fact an argument for the strength of FAITH instilled in her. FYI: Back in 1965 my Mother wanted to send my unwed, pregnant sister to a Catholic home run by nuns. Comment to previous reviewer: Research before you buy is a good idea because you will find the facts. This film is very life affirming, not religion bashing but the truth can sting. Just a Warning

This movie is labeled wrong--it is not a Family/ Children's movie. I wasn't planning on buying it, but scrolling through the Family/ Children section this movie jumped out at me as being in labeled wrong. The synopsis is ridiculously obscure. This movie is not life-affirming it is exercise in religion bashing and liberal propagandizing. Research before you buy!
