    Great Toothbrush, Disappointing Durability

My family has always recommended Sonicare, so when my 'other' electric died, I started researching. I thought the E3000 would be perfect, as I have no electric outlet in my bathroom. The product, as far as oral care is concerned, is FABULOUS. Durability was another story. I returned my first 2 (or 3) within the 30 day policy as they died and replacing the battery did no good. It seems that the battery compartment is not waterproof and the vibration must allow moisture inside, corroding the connections and batteries. Batteries do not last long - even rechargeables. This latest has lasted quite a number of months, probably due to removing batteries and leaving compartment open after each brushing. I will definitely purchase another Sonicare, but never again a battery op.

Been using this brush now for a few months now - love using it! Cleans like crazy, but isn't too harsh on my gums or anything. One thing I've discovered though is that it needs *good* batteries. When I put new, but cheap, batteries in, it acted like they were already dead. I actually changed the brush head assembly out too early because I thought something was wrong with it, when in fact putting *good* batteries in solved it. Note that when there isn't enough juice, it doesn't slow down, it just randomly turns off. Love the brush overall though :) I minimize/prevent water damage to this by: 1. Use the minimum amount of water that I need 2. Shake the bristles after use and wipe off the whole thing with a paper towel 3. Store it immediately, don't leave it laying on a wet counter or anything. I don't do anything particularly special for storage - just put it in a drinking glass on the counter with our other toothbrushes. Obviously I make sure there isn't a pool of water in the glass.

My first Sonicare had a chargeable base. It did last long because I only charge it when it is really "dead". But it did not last forever (as I expect it should). I bought another one that requires 2 AA batteries and it is still working perfectly as I write this comment. For this toothbrush to last, we have to take care of it properly. Try my way if it makes a difference. We see on the picture with the toothbrush standing-up on its base. What I do after each use is I “swing it abruptly” twice with the brush pointing down to get rid most of the water (do not get rid of the water by tapping it on anything, not even with your finger), then rest it sideways on my countersink with the brush pointing down. I lean it on to something to prevent it from rolling off. As with most electronic products, try your best not to drop it and place it gently down. Use it with dry hands if it is possible and try to avoid water to touch the base. I hope this tip will help most owners of this wonderful product. My mouth feels really clean (with my regular toothbrush for my tongue and palate, and floss for in-between teeth) after each use. I also use an Energizer rechargeable battery “to help our landfill”. Please charge your chargeable when they are “really dead”. This may prolong its use. I am not a tester or scientist by profession but I am writing these tips from my experience. I hope everyone maintains healthy teeth.

I love Sonic toothbrushes & have had a couple of rechargable ones, which work fine until the day they die, and then you're faced with another expensive replacement cost. So I was happy to find this much cheaper, battery-operated version. And it does work exactly the same as the expensive units, and is more portable. Its only drawback is that it does chew through batteries like candy. Up until this week, I've only been brushing my teeth once a day, and I've had to replace the batteries at least once a week. I've just begun to brush twice daily, so I'm sure I'll have to double that number. I may have to now invest in rechargable batteries... I still find the replacement brush heads to be overpriced. Wal-Mart does sell a generic version of the brush heads cheaper, but be aware that although they work, they are INCREDIBLY loud. I absolutely will not buy them again. Overall, I am pleased with it--especially if rechargable batteries work.

These are the best toothbrushes ever. I have been using on for the past 15 years. They do cost more and I have had to replace the entire unit 3 times, but the benifits outweigh the cost. My dentist is so impressed with the improvement in the color of my teeth and the health of my gums that she now uses one.

I can feel it trying to work...

    • A. Sorry to say, both of the ones I bought died. The cost to replace is not worth it. So I bit the bullet and bought a professional Sonic (the best) set from my dentist that comes with a rechargeable base. It is more professional and trustworthy. It works! Which is the whole point, to save money on teeth issues. My last check up went great and showed the amazing ability of the Sonic brand to clean the junk off your teeth with ease!

    • A. These things must be flushed out with hot water--especially inside of the brush head, which seems & looks empty until you keep running water in and finally gunk comes out glop by glop. Left inside it will reduce vibration power. Too bad the things eat batteries--a set a month or even less, so far--AND WILL NOT USE RECHARGEABLES! Waste and expense, and piles of depleted batteries.

    • A. How you managed to get months of use from it is a miracle. Three weeks, and perhaps a few days more, and ours needed more. And more. And more. Until we put it aside for something with a rechargeable battery. Changing batty: Just pry the end off. Look more closely. And note the + and - marks. Get used to it--you'll be feeding it more.

    • A. open the blue cap on the bottom. It pops off when you pull on it. Insert 2 AA batteries-. Look inside and it will tell you how to insert them correctly, then line up the openings on the blue cap with the toothbrush handle and push the cap back into place. Be sure it's a good tight fit , so water can't get inside the battery compartment. Turn on toothbrush. If it still doesn't work, then check to make sure you have the batteries in correctly and reapply cap.
