My son loves this!

I have had this in my car for about a week now. So far I have no complaints. My 15 month old son loves being able to watch his movies on our long drives. I have even used it at night a few times to entertain him on short trips since he just stares out into the dark. It was a little difficult to install since I am "technologically impaired" but I managed to figured it out all on my own; a big deal for a single mom. I would highly recommend this dvd player.

This is great for kids

I bought this for my 3 year old daughter for traveling purposes and she loves it. I would have like to have bought a built in headrest dvd player but I couldn't find a headrest to match my interior fabric. But, this still got the job done. The volume quality is good with and without headphones, the screen size is perfect, and it has automatic playback from the original stopping point. It took some maneuvering mounting it because my headrest isn't flat, but tilts at an angle so I had to lower the headrest all the way then mount it between the seat and the headrest so it would be eye level. But other than that it is an easy setup and it doesn't take much effort. It comes with an extra player but I decided not to mount it since I only have one child, but I can use it if my niece or nephew tags along. Only one player accepts a dvd, the other dvd screen plays whatever is playing on the master screen. I also purchased toddler headphones for about $14 so I can listen to my music, while she enjoys her shows.

Beyond Pleased

I'm not one to do reviews, but these portable dvd players were better than I expected. The screen size is great, picture quality is great, sound is great, length of the cords is great, and ease of set-up and attachement to headrests was simple. And as others have stated, we like that the movie picks back up from where it left off when the car is turned off vs other players that restart at the begininng. My only advice would be to put the player that holds the dvd on the driver side headrest so that the cords are coming off on the inside edge for easier connection. We put ours on the passengers headrest becasue that is where the older child sits who can change out the cds (we didn't want to move carseats around) and this makes the cords coming off the outside edge and they have to run back across the back of the seat to go to the cigarette lighter for plug in. Very happy and I am very picky.

User Not So Friendly

First I want to say that this product functioned beautifully. The setup was easy. It came with nice long cords. The head set straps kept the players in place. There was no skipping and the fact that it started where you left off after the car turned off was awesome. However, the reason I rated the product 3 stars is because of the function buttons. They were located at the top of the player. They are black buttons with black icons so using this machine on a car trip in the dark was difficult. My 9 year old is very tech savvy and had no problem working the player when she could see it, but she had to get up out of her seat and turn on the car light, in a moving car, in order to operate it. It also does not come with a remote. A remote would make the button issue much less of a frustration, but no remote. I feel the volume on the player itself was low as you can barely hear it without headphones, but that seems to be consistent among most portable dvd players.

Better than other brands, but.....

We have now purchased 4 sets of these portable DVD players and this brand/model is by far the best of its competition in its price range. This is our second purchase of this model and thankfully the price has come down from the first time we purchased this brand. The video and audio quality is good for this type of device. It definitley keeps our 4 year old occupied during short and long trips. Our first Philips brand lasted a little over two years, but we only used it for our road trips, so a little short for my standards. The last Philips we had, the DVD player began to skip a lot and even after cleaning the unit, it would not stop skipping. So I began my research again and came to the same conclusion that I came to 2 years ago. By my experience and research, this model is better than other brands in its price range. Could Philips build a better unit? YES. For the money that I spend on this device, it should last me longer than 2 years. That being said, if anyone is looking at purchasing one of these portable DVD players, this brand/model would be my recommendation.

2 out of 2 Product Failed

I bought this Phillips portable DVD Player about 6 months ago and after about 4 months the pressure switch that detects the opened/closed cover started to give problems but it was a easy fix with just a little piece of paper napkin on it so it would do more pressure. About 1 month later the cover lock started failing and it wouldn't close if the player was in the upright position. (Only adults handled the player) I had bought the Walmart warranty plan so I sent it in and got reimbursed. Bought the same player (with Walmart warranty again) and just after 3 weeks the player started with the same cover lock problem. (My kid watches the same DVD over and over again so the cover was opened and closed about 4 times only in the 3 weeks) Went to Walmart and there is only a 15 days store return policy on ALL dvd players. So I'll have to send it in again to the Walmart Product Care Plan and wait for my reimbursement. So now after 7 months I'm -$30.00 (from the 2 Protection care plans) and DVD player.

Great for the price

We recently bought a new suv, it had everything we need (except tv's). Unfortunately, our kids had gotten use to having their own screens built into the headrests and they could watch separate movies if they wanted. With the new car, it was instantly an issue, so I found these. (The dealer would charge $2,000 for the dual headrests DVDs) Instead of dishing out that $ now, I got these. They are great and the only complaint I have is... The plug that you plug into your car to power these, it has stiff metal prongs, therefor it does not go all the way into the outlet. You have to make sure it's plugged in well, or you will think the monitors are broken. The kids don't like that they have to watch the same movie (only 1 monitor has a DVD loading area) ages, 4 & 7, so they like different things. But for us for right now, it works well. I like that for long trips, we can hook up their headphones, otherwise the speakers are facing the kids so that's nice. Would recommend.

Good so far

I had a Phillips portable DVD in the past that wasn't great and one of the screens finally stopped working after a couple of years, but thought I'd give them one more try primarily because I liked the size of the screens with this package. We took these on a 15 hour (each way) road trip and I am impressed with them so far. They definitely got a work out on this trip and I like the 'resume' feature on these which our other player didn't have. The screens provide a clear picture and given their size are much better than the last screens we had. The mounting straps are a bit cheap (would have preferred a fixed bracket like our last one) but they are manageable. We don't use these daily; only on road trips, so I we'll see if they continue to work for future road trips, but so far so good and hopefully it stays that way. I did spend the extra $9 this time for the protection plan, just in case.

No complaints here! Love them!

Bought these for my boys, 2 & 4 yrs old, for Christmas and they have been wonderful! Used them Christmas day on the 1 1/2 trip to Grammy's and OH so much more peaceful! (ok, it was really more of a present for ME!) I read several reviews here so I knew what to expect but I have been so much more pleased. One reviewer stated that at every stop the dvd would restart. Not mine. Even after turning units off and unplugging from power supply all night, movie still picked up where it left off. It actually starts about 5-10 seconds before it last stopped. One reviewer stated the volume was too low and kids couldn't hear movie. Not so! Plenty loud enough that I had to cut them down because they were TOO loud. Yes, there are hanging wires. I have coiled mine up with a twist tie and have them tucked away in my middle console. A non-issue. Overall, I can't say enough about them. GREAT price and well worth the enjoyment we have gotten from them!

Nice DVD Player

This DVD player is very useful if your car does not have an inbulit DVD player or does not have the support to add a mountable DVD player. Works fine so far. But since many people have mentioned that the device stopped working after few days of usage, I bough the "2 Year Drop, Spill and Cracked Screen" protection plan for $10, just in case I had to replace. The cons on this device are: 1) You need to remove them from your car everytime after usage to secure them, otherwise someone can break into your car. Unwanted carrying between your home and car is little bit of pain for me. 2) Hanging wires - one wire for the power and another wire to connect both these screens for video input/output. 3) Volume is not that good. You can hear only if the volume is set to max. I'm thinking about taking a wire out of "audio out" into the aux input of my car radio so the audio comes out from the car's speakers and also the driver can control the volume. 4) Buttons and controls are placed at different places on the device. For example: In one screen, the volume control is on the right of the device whereas on the other screen it is at the bottom of the device. I still love this DVD player and I hope my kids enjoy too.
