Key Features and Benefits:

  • Blu-ray Disc playback
Blu-ray Discs have the capacity to carry high definition data, along with pictures in the 1920 x 1080 resolution that defines full high definition images. Scenes come to life as details leap at you, movements smoothen and images turn crystal clear. Blu-ray also delivers uncompressed surround sound - so your audio experience becomes unbelievably real. The high storage capacity of Blu-ray Discs also allows a host of interactive possibilities to be built in. Seamless navigation during playback and other exciting features like pop-up menus bring a whole new dimension to home entertainment.
  • DivX Plus HD certified
DivX Plus HD on your Blu-ray player and/or DVD player offers the latest in DivX technology to let you enjoy HD videos and movies from the Internet direct to your Philips HDTV or PC. DivX Plus HD supports the playback of DivX Plus content while also supporting previous versions of DivX video up to 1080p. DivX Plus HD for true HD digital video.
  • Dolby TrueHD
Dolby TrueHD delivers the finest sound from your Blu-ray Discs. Audio reproduced is virtually indistinguishable from the studio master, so you hear what the creators intended for you to hear. Dolby TrueHD completes your high definition entertainment experience.
  • DVD video upscaling
HDMI 1080p upscaling delivers images that are crystal clear. DVD movies in standard definition can now be enjoyed in high definition resolution - ensuring more details and more true-to-life pictures. Progressive scan eliminates the line structure prevalent on TV screens, again ensuring relentlessly sharp images. To top it off, HDMI makes a direct digital connection that can carry uncompressed digital HD video as well as digital multi-channel audio, without conversions to analog - delivering perfect picture and sound quality, completely free from noise.
  • EasyLink
EasyLink lets you control multiple devices like DVD players, Blu-ray players, TV's etc. with one remote. It uses HDMI CEC industry- standard protocol to share functionality between devices through the HDMI cable. With one touch of a button, you can operate all your connected HDMI CEC enabled equipment simultaneously. Functions like standby and play can now be carried out with absolute ease.

Very Good BR Player

A friend of mine who is a Walmart Associate recommended this to me. A few recommendations: 1. Separately purchase CAT5 cable, HDMI Cable and Digital Coaxial Audio Cable as these items are not in the box with the BR Player. Make sure the cables are long enough. 2. Perform a Firmware update - Out of the box the BR Player had Firmware version 1.07. Version 2.15 was installed during the update. This BR player runs on Linux and Java - I don't know which is updated but the player accesses discs much faster and can playback more file formats than with the originally released firmware. Follow the On Screen directions - it takes 20 to 30 minutes to complete. 3. Use a CD/DVD Cleaning Disc after 15 to 20 playbacks. 4. Purchase the Walmart Product Service Plan / Care Plan. 'Cause ya never when -OOPS- something might go wrong ... It's cheap and if you really hate this BR Player -OOPS-

Ok, I am not tech savy, but I was lucky enough to have an associate at Walmart who knew what he was talking about. I made it out with all the cables I needed when I bought this thing. I still don't know what a dongle is...seriously, is that a real thing? We live in the sticks and have awful internet reception, so, much to my disappointment, we can't get Netflix. Everything streams too slow or something. More to the point, we watch dvds/bluerays instead. Our blueray player died so we got this major disappoinment. We watched a grand total of 5 movies over a 3 or 4 month period before it stopped working completely. It is junk. I bought one that's a no name brand with my Kohl's cash and apology money for the UPS delayed shipping fiasco and it has already played about 25 movies. It was basically free and has been a better machine. I will not buy a Phillips product again. I will say that I DID have great customer service that day. I just hope the associate's blueray player lasts longer than mine did!

As others have said, this product borders on useless. It locks up constantly, and trying to watch anything on Netflix is a nightmare. In the last 2 hours alone I've had to unplug it three times and finally I disconnected it and will go back to using my Wii for Netflix. It is slow to respond to anything, and even the remote causes headaches. Every time a button is pushed it either acts too sensitively and thinks it's been pressed two or three times, or I have to nearly take a sledgehammer to it to get it to do anything. I wish I had come here to read reviews before I purchased it, and honestly this bluray player makes me glad the Philips TV I was going to buy was out of stock. I am going to return this tomorrow and will never buy another Philips product again. Sure, it's cheap and they say you get what you pay for, but this is the kind of activity I'd expect out of a $20 player, not $60.

Software issues per Philips customer support
8/8/2013

Customer review by BaronQ

I purchased this player and although it says that it is Wi-fi enabled, it is not. When I tried to connect the player to my network, there was a message on the menu that there needed to be a dongle plugged into the player. I went through the manual and there was no mention of any dongle. I double checked the outside of the box....no mention of the dongle. I went to Philips customer support online and found out from the online support that *This player had a software issue from the factory!* So Philips knows they have an issue but has not taken these units from the stores to be fixed. Poor customer service!

Worst Player Ever
1/10/2014

This Blu-Ray Player is horrible. 1. Sometimes it will load the disc on command using the remote, sometimes you have to manually insert or remove it. 2. When a disk is playing, it responds slowly to fast forward or rewind or what ever command you may need. 3. When trying to stream Netflix, about 85% of the time it makes me set up Netflix over again. Once it finally gets it installed again, it is slow and very hesitant to commands. 4. When streaming or trying to get a disk out, it completely freezes to the point that I have to unplug it so that it resets itself. Overall, this is the worst Blu-ray/DVD player I have ever owned. I have changed battery's in the remote, replaced all wiring going to the player, tried Ethernet and wireless options and nothing has made this player work right.
