Not the cheapest, but one of the best top 10
I thought that Pennzoil was a good brand, but it's a great brand. I used another top rated synthetic for 100,000 mi and the lower end of my LS engine was protected well, but the lifters would have a low grade tick. I tried every trick I found including soaking the lifters with the best carburetor cleaner out there. So I thought I would try Pennzoil Synthetic and after 2-changes the tick almost disappeared. I always used premium filters and never went extended periods between changes. Now with 120,000 mi the 5.3 LS W/O Fuel Management idles with 40 lb of oil pressure and sounds great. I use Pennzoil in all my vehicles now. It's the best competitive priced oil out there.

Thinner oil relative to old Pennzoil Platinum
I have used Pennzoil Platinum 10W-30 in my '02 5.7 Camaro for 10 years, great oil until I used the new version made from natural gas. Used very little oil and quiet engine with old Platinum. Upon changing to new natural gas derived Platinum 10W-30, knocking (piston slap?) occurs until engine is completely warmed up. After 2,000 miles with new Platinum, I changed to Quaker State Ultimate Durability Full Synthetic 10W-30. Absolutely quiet engine now, just like with old Pennzoil platinum. My conclusion, natural gas derived Platinum is a less viscous oil than the old Platinum even though the label says it is a 10W-30. In reality, guessing it is probably more like a 5W-20. Wear protection questionable in my opinion.

Excellent synthetic oil!!

I have a 2010 Camaro SS 6.2 V8. I've always used Valvoline or Mobil 1 and the car ran great with either oil. Recently I decided to give Pennzoil Platinum a try. I didn't think I'd notice a difference but wow.... The engine sounds much quieter and the upper ticking noise I had during cold start is hardly noticeable. Definitely using Pennzoil from now on.

Great Oil, Great Detergents.

Bought a 2002 Pontiac Bonneville with 204k and against my better judgement put a full synthetic high mileage oil in it. The car had some noisy lifters and the cam was disgusting. As anyone should know, a good oil gets "dirty" quick as it is suspending all of the impurities, after my first oil change I noticed my oil was pretty dark and my engine (3800 S2) was running really smooth and there seemed to be a lot less sludge built up around the cam. I would highly recommend this oil for someone looking to make the switch from a conventional or syn. blend.

(pair this with the HPZ filter and you are guaranteed a long lasting oil)

1. Hello Mike, The Pennzoil Platinum Euro L 5w-30 meets OEM specs for European diesel engines and would not be recommended for the Ford 6.7L engine. The WSS-M2C-171 F1 is the fluid requirement for these engines. This spec is met by all of our Shell Rotella diesel engine oils. We would strongly recommend Rotella T6 5w-40 if you do any extreme driving, like pulling or hauling or driving in extreme environments. Great question. Sincerely, Don
