I love it. It sure made a difference in my living room. The day I got it, it was extremely cold outside, but this heater made a world of difference in my living too.

It takes a few minutes to warm up, but once it gets going, it's wonderful! But, unlike a regular resistance-element heater that stops putting out heat the moment you turn it off, this thing just keeps on putting out warmth for several minutes more! With a little bit of tweaking of the 600/900/1500 watt knob, and the thermostat control, it's much better than a fan-forced unit, at heating a room. And, I bet you'd save a lot of energy using the 600W setting, compared to a resistance heater, too! I start it out on the 1500W setting, and switch to one of the lower power settings, when it gets going... It warms my 13'x14' studio nicely. Quite cozy. (BUT, it says that it's good up to 1,500 sq.ft.!!!) We bought 2 of them, for use in separate rooms. But, you can wheel it around with you, if you want, when you move to another room! (Like taking it in to the bedroom.) I don't know how much better the ones that cost 3 times as much could possibly be, but this one is great, and, for less than 40 bucks, too! I love it.

I purchased two of these. I use them in my bed room and bath. Once they heat up the room has a natural warmth. I love that they have 3 wattage settings, 600, 900, and 1500 and that you can adjust the thermostat once the temp has been reached.

I have used this type of heating for years in my bedroom (old house, LP gas heaters in main areas, no heating in BR). The passive heating is quiet and effective, especially great for heating a bedroom if you have a ceiling fan (turned on reverse, set at low to force warm air to floor level). The dial lets you control the amount to heat, low to high. The thermostat prevents it from over heating a room once the desired warmness is reached. If it gets tipped over, it shuts off which is a great safety feature. Although it is a manual on and off model it is way more affordable than the fancy ones with remote control–that is a MINOR inconvenience for anyone on a budget that needs warmth in winter months. In 20 years, this is my second Pelonis radiator.

    Perfect Heater for Large Room
    11/25/2013

We purchased 2 of these Radiator Heaters for our home, as we live on a farm and have a large home with #2 heating oil running through a new furnace. Although we have a new heating system, it runs us about $2000.00 to heat during the winter. After purchasing a couple of these units, we were impressed at just how much heat they put out. We decided to purchase 3 more today, for a total of 5 units. We have been able to completely eliminate our central air, as we are running only these radiator heaters. We recently had our home completely re-insulated, which helped tremendously. These little heaters will run you out of the house, if you have them on high, even if the temperature is below freezing outside. We highly recommend these oil, radiator heaters to those who want to save on heating costs. Our heating cost through the winter, went from around $500.00 a months to around $150.00 a month! Totally Stoked! Of course the insulation of your home is important and will make a huge difference. We are heating 3,400 sq. ft.. For less than $40.00 buxx, you can't go wrong.

The top switch has 3 settings, are these settings for a fan to expel the heat? I ask this question because the bottom switch seems to be a thermostat switch which would regulate the temperature, therefore the top switch would be for a 3-stage fan setting but I hear no fan when I turn this switch

    • A. The Heater has 600/900/1500 Watt Heat Settings. So if you are paying 15 cents per kWh for your electricity, the heater costs 6, 9 or 15 cents per hour to run on the three different settings. But the oil is used as a heat reservoir (buffer), not as a fuel. These heaters consist of metal columns with cavities, inside which silicone oil flows freely around the heater. A heating element at the base of the heater heats up the oil, which then flows around the cavities of the heater by convection. The oil acts as a heat reservoir with high boiling point . The high specific heat capacity allows the oil to store a large amount of thermal energy in a small volume, while the high boiling point allows it to remain in the liquid phase for the purpose of heating, so that the heater does not have to be a high pressure vessel. Using the oil as a heat reservoir, the heating element heats the oil, which remains warm for a long period of time while the heat is transferred to the metal wall through convection, through the walls via conduction, then to the surroundings via convection and radiation. The columns of oil heaters are typically constructed as thin fins, such that the surface area of the metal columns is large relative to the volume of the oil heat reservoir. A large surface area allows more air to be in contact with the heater at any point in time, allowing for the heat to be transferred more rapidly from the heater into the room. They are much safer than heaters where a fan forces air over a heat source, as you are much less likely to be burned or electrocuted. But many people find they miss the immediate satisfaction of instant heat.

    • A. No fan. It's oil filled so the heated oil circulates throughout. Same idea as the radiator heaters used in older homes.

    • A. There is no fan in this unit. Think of the old steam radiators that were in buildings, this is a modern version of that. The 3 settings are simply how much heat is put into the oil that circulates thru the radiators. The temp setting is how hot does the room need to get to shut the unit off.

    • A. No fan - the oil warms up and the heater puts out the heat. There are off/on switches and low med/high/settings - I have 6 of these heaters and find that I usually have them on low after getting them warmed up. Plus they don't don't dry out the air. Very pleased that they have lowered my heating bill - in an all electric house - by a third.

    • A. I have a cat & two large dogs. The heater does get very hot to the touch but my animals don't seem to have any interest in it. My cat will occasionally lay near it, but never directly right next to it. If your cats run wild & you think they will run into it, I would say get a different heater, so you don't run the chance of them getting burned. Hope that helps.

    • A. If the cats run into the heater on the medium or high setting they might be injured due to the heat. The low setting is merely warm to touch. The heater must remain on its casters to operate safely. It is heavy and sturdy so I don't think a normal cat could knock it over.

    • A. I have four cats, and they will lay right next to this heater. A couple of times, they've gone up and sniffed at it, but they recognize that it's hot and even if they touched it, it wouldn't really burn them. At it's hottest, I can touch it with my bare hands and it'll only start to burn a little after a minute or so of direct contact. Your cats will love it. They won't knock it over, either, it's heavy.

    • A. It gets very hot, I have one, a cat will only go around it one time & learn, they can also smell they are smart enough, hopefully not to touch it! Any radiator heater is not animal or child friendly! But, they work well! Put the cats outside, that's why they have fur. They get hot inside a warm house, anyway!
