I had this camera for my 2008 Mitsubishi Outlander before I bought my 2010 outlander with a built-in back up camera. This little camera mounted easily to my rear door (the reverse lights were mounted in the moving door, where the license plate was) and I could hide the transmitter- no one knew that I had a back up camera or that it was not factory installed. The LCD monitor on the suction mount sat in a cup holder and automatically turned on when I put the car in reverse. I did get rare video interference when I started the car for a few seconds, but not a problem. This cheap camera provided excellent view to the rear making parking a snap. Highly recommended.

    Back Up Camera

Fairly easy to install, however, if you do not know about electronics have a professional do the installation. The monitor screen is really small. Considering it's only used to back up this is acceptable. The suction cup mount is cheap and I'm looking for something to replace it with.

Its a Project but Works Fine

I installed it in a 15-passenger van. It was a project to install in the rear. Need to find right backup light wire and good ground. I researched in my repair book, pulled an interior panel, found the right colored wires and ran wires inside van. The camera wires are very thin and were difficult to just clip to the thicker auto wires. The provided clips did not get a good connection and the picture was inconsistent. I ended up stripping and soldering the wires. Now it looks professional if I say so myself but it took hours to get access to the right wires in my case. Very discrete on the back license plate. Looks nice. In the front, easy to install...but then it takes up the lighter socket. I have to unplug and replug anytime I want to power another gadget like my GPS. Would like to hard wire that (some day) but that is another project. The suction cup does not work on plastic dash and some states don't allow anything stuck to the glass. I would like to pull the dash panel and permanently attach the viewer but that is yet another project. For now, it just sits on my dash. I was worried the little screen would be too small but it seems fine. I have seen other comments about backing up with the camera. I would NOT. The distances are very misleading. It looks like lots of room but "objects are CLOSER than they appear!" I have it for safety purposes and I like that I can see behind the van. Small cars could hide behind my 15-passenger van let alone children. But it gives a wide view and I can see if anyone is behind me. For that, I think it is great.

I bought this camera after my other one was stolen out of my 12 passenger bus. This camera works great, however, I should have paid more attention to the screen size, because I needed a bigger screen. So that was my bad. But for a small to mid size car it would be better for.

can it be mounted on the front of vehicle?

    • A. It can be mounted anywhere you want, however it needs a power source to trigger it. When mounted to the tag wires connect it to the back up light for power.

    • A. You will need to tap into the wire for the back up lights. Then when ever you put the vehicle in reverse, the white backup lights...and the camera go on. It can be a project to find, and access, the right wires and get a good connection. In my case on a van, I had to go into the door through the license plate light hole, up the tube to the inside of the van, then behind the panel to the wires going to the lights which in my case were not on the door. It depends on your vehicle. Also, I did not like the little clips that came with the kit. It did not get a good connection and the picture was not consistent. I finally stripped the two wires and soldered them. Good connection-good picture.

    • A. Mounting on the front of your vehicle defeats the purpose. It is a "back up" camera used when "backing up".

    • A. The camera is powered by a provide wire-pinch system that taps the electrical voltage in the wire going to the reverse white light. This turns on the camera when the reverse light is also turned on, when the car is in reverse, and turns off the camera otherwise. Why you would want a camera pointing to the ground in the front of the car is unknown, but you probably cannot mount it that way as the camera harness requires some 12volt small gauge wire to tap from, and there is no such wire at the front license plate.
