My wive loves the retro references and the style closer to the original Paper Mario. She loves the exploration. The battles are very different and you have to match up patterns and create an attack path. This frustrated her to death at first, not being math or process oriented but she is picking it up and is starting to like the battles more. We are not done yet but so far it is great! It can be frustrating when the attacks leave you with little or no complete attack options. But I enjoy the patterns and planning out Mario's path for the attack. We recommend it for families of all ages. The trick is to read the scroll out load. To hear the way they say things that way is great! But it is very much cut scenes and scrolls like the original.
About This Item
The kingdom has been ravaged by an origami menace! Join Mario and his new partner, Olivia, as they battle evil Folded Soldiers, repair the damaged landscape, and try to free Princess Peach’s castle from the clutches of King Olly in this comedy-filled adventure, only on the Nintendo Switch™ system.
Master strategic, ring-based battles
Line up scattered enemies and plan your attack to maximize damage with the new, ring-based battle system that requires both puzzle-solving skills and a quick wit.
Mario and Luigi receive an invitation from Princess Peach to attend an origami festival and excitedly hurry to Toad Town…but something’s amiss. After investigating the eerily empty town, the duo finds a fearsome (and folded) Princess Peach—she’s been turned into origami by King Olly, ruler of the Origami Kingdom! With five giant streamers under his control, King Olly binds Princess Peach’s Castle and transports it to a distant mountain as part of his plan to re-fold the world.
On his journey to liberate Peach’s Castle and repair the ravaged paper landscape, Mario meets Olivia, King Olly’s sister, and the two join forces to put a stop to Olly’s origami onslaught. Even Bowser falls victim to Olly’s plot when his minions are turned into origami Folded Soldiers and betray their Koopa king, forcing him to ally with Mario and Olivia!
Battle the Folded Soldiers in ring-based battles that challenge you to strategically line up enemies to maximize damage! Out of battle, Mario can use the arm-extending 1,000-Fold Arms ability in specific spots to interact with the landscape to pull, peel, hit, and more! Join Mario, Olivia, and their companions on a journey of laughter and emotion, thrills, and a whole lot of folding.

Love it, back closer to the original but new twist
Maybe better than Gamestop
I had tried to preorder this particular game from a certain video game retailer but they were trying to pay an extra $10 to get it in on release. So ichecked my options and instead preordered it on walmart and had it shipped to my home arriving on release date with no extra cost. The game itself is great. Ihad the original n64 one and it feels like they captured the same feel to it. Some of the battles are kind of challenging so i do believe they were aiming for an older demographic. But that don't bother me none.
I love this game! I personally have a jard tome on boss battles but with practice and patience it shouldn't be hard to get use to!
I ordered this as a present for my little nephews they loved the game. Arrived exactly as I was told, awesome, great service
Great game. Hope to continue ordering from Walmart
Fun without being too hard! Very clever!
Son states it is a very good game to play
Nice break from reality
Have spent a lot of hours playing this game , just what you expect from a Mario game ...do not care for the battle screens, but you get use to them
Tedious ring-style battles
I picked up this game from the store yesterday. I didn't realize it wasn't released yet and neither did the cashier so I was able to purchase it. I have played and completed all the paper mario games and really enjoyed them. I do not like this one. The “ring style” battle mode is not enjoyable for me. Especially at the big bosses. Not only is it a puzzle, but you have to solve said puzzle while the clock ticks down. I found myself avoiding battling goombas and koopa troopas, when normally I would go for the points and coins. Unfortunately you can't bypass the main boss fights. My point for this review is- wait a week or two before spending $50-60 on this game until more videos of in-game play are online to watch. This game might not appeal to all Mario fans. The rest of the game is great. I like the characters and animation. It's a pretty standard game where Mario gets a small sidekick who can pop up and give guidance as you go. I just wish I had a choice to avoid the ring battles.
Over all everything is good
