Great for resting in while backpacking

The Ozark Trail 86.5” x 39.5” Bivy Tent, Is nice and compact to carry; at less than 4 pounds, it would be easy for a backpacker to carry when hiking. For the first time set up it took about 20 minutes while figuring it all out but will be a quicker set up next time. This one person tent has good ventilation and a nice window on the side that can be rolled up and tied to provide more air if you need it. The zip up flap makes for a nice canopy if you just want to sit in the tent and enjoy the view using the support posts. All of the posts are foldable and lock into place easily. This tent has convenient pockets inside at one end for holding a cellphone or any other small items you carry that may be easily lost while resting inside. The most difficult part of using this tent is folding and rolling it when you are done to fit it back in the carry sack. It took longer to "burp" the air out of the tent as we attempted to fold and roll it into a small enough size to place it back into the carry sack.

    Really easy setup.

The Ozark Trail 1 person tent was extremely easy to set up. Took all of five minutes. Although the tent says 1 person, I feel two children could fit comfortably if you choose to use it for children to sleep in. I love that the door can also be used as a small canopy. It’s color is army green. There is a small square window on the opposite side of the tent from the door. The window unzips to reveal mesh. The inner tent is roomy. Which is why I think more than 1 child could sleep in it. It has the look of a traditional tent, which I really like. When taking it back down everything went back into its original bags easily. I really like the tent overall. But, I’m not sure if it could withstand an extreme storm, it’s not super thick material. I would definitely recommend this tent to others.

Plenty of Room For One Person and Gear

I was looking forward to trying and reviewing this tent. I've used Ozark Trail brand camping gear in the past, and this little tent is every bit as good as the other stuff I've got. I'm spoiled--I've always used dome tents, but I like how compact this tent is in its bag. It comes with clear instructions, and took me about 20 minutes to set up by myself. It goes a lot faster if you have a helper. I used a hammer to tap in the stakes--I recommend a mallet. I didn't like the tent stakes, as they are very malleable aluminum. I plan to replace them with steel. Not a big deal--any seasoned camper will tell you that you always need more stakes. Some advice--check your area for rocks, sticks, scat, and anthills. If you can, put some dry grass or hay down and put a small tarp on top of the grass. It will save you having to patch the bottom. If you put the flap up for the awning, there is no screen--a drawback if you're in a buggy area. If you keep the flap down, it's a good idea to pitch the tent so the prevailing winds can blow through the sides, where the screen windows are. I was able to roll the tent, sleeping bag-style, and fit it back into the bag. This was a big deal to me, as I have trouble rolling up sleeping bags. I like this tent so much, I bought one more for myself, and another for a relative.

    Photo looks better

I was so happy to get this tent, and once I put it up I was more disappointed than anything else. The photo looked awesome. I was expecting more and it just wasn’t it. I set it up in the yard because I got on a Wednesday and we were going camping on Friday and I wanted to set it up so I could see how to do it before we got to the campground. An extra tent is always useful. I’m 5’9” and I actually lay in it with no problem but I’m a big girl, so the fit was kind of tight. So there’s really not a lot of moving around room. It packs and repacks small and comes in a small bag that’s easy to carry. The set-up and take-down was extremely easy and the directions were easy to read. It even has repack instructions which is really neat. I had a few issues with the tent itself though, there is no actual ventilation other than two small vents and a ventilation window that you can only control from outside (bad design there folks) and it’s either fully open or fully closed there is no in between or mesh fabric that would be awesome to have if the tarp was up so you could actually close the tent. The floor of the tent is made of the same material as the tent so be sure to use a tarp or something to cover the bottom of the inside of the tent, although it says weatherproof, it may get a little damp or just feel a little damp after a night of rain. The Poles are a little on the flimsy side though and may or may not stand up to a really strong wind storm. To be honest if I hadn’t gotten this for free, I wouldn’t have bought it. I used it for storage on my trip because it was just not going to work for what I needed it for. For a day trip or a quick overnight, this will work but not for an actual camping week like I do. We ended up using it as a storage tent because nobody wanted to use it.
First attempt putting it up, kind of funky but its up

    Roomy tent for one

My first impression about this tent was amazing! It is so lightweight a little over 3 lbs. which is really matters if you're camping by yourself. It is also very roomy, I'm 5'6" tall and still have space to place my backpack and boots. I'm skinny,so it's a lot of space for me to move or roll over. It is very little ventilation, but so far as I know condensation is very common for little tents. It is easy to set up and one person can easily do it in about 15-20 minutes depending on your experience. Also this tent won't be great for super hot days. It is tall enough to be able to sit up in as well. Easy entry through the big front door. I think it will be sturdy enough to hold the wind, not the storm though. I think I will waterproof it myself before hitting the road, even it says waterproof I wouldn't trust it because any tent in this price range is gonna need waterproofing. It is also has a very convenient pockets inside.
