We have worn the Sock nearly 360 of 364 days of our child's life - and the day before her first birthday she had rolled onto her tummy during deep REM sleep and buried her face. The Owlet showed she wiggled, stayed very still, and stopped breathing for around 1m 10s. As soon as there was danger (we keep the sock settings less strict as not to alarm to wiggles or being awake) the alarm went off like clock work and we found her unresponsive. We are lucky to regain breathing immediately and without issue but my husband and I 250% believe the Owlet SAVED our child from SIDS. Without warning she would have slipped away in our sleep and we would have never been able to stop it. We immediately purchased a second set for my sitters home for naps and a third set for our son who is set to arrive in 5 weeks.

Saved the life of my sister's baby
My nephew was born with a muscle disorder called XLMTM. It is a fatal disorder that leads to muscle weakness, so he is unable to breathe normally, swallow, and is very floppy. He was not doing well in the NICU on a ventilator and was too weak for a tracheostomy so we took him home to be with family and love him during his last days or week (doctors gave us 2 days-10 days after ventilator removal because of the CO2 retention).
We prayed so hard that he could just live, and as a medical student reading about his disorder I knew the odds were against us. But we had hope. And within the first two weeks he started to absolutely thrive!!! He was on low-flow supplemental oxygen (2L), and had a nasal feeding tube but tolerated both very well. He was energetic moving his little arms and legs, smiling, watching his baby sensory videos...we were in shock. His breathing rate was still high, so we were concerned that he wasn't getting rid of the CO2 but just kept being hopeful.
Hospice DID NOT give us a heart monitor or O2 sat monitor; they said it would be best if we focus on his comfort rather than monitors. But my sister wanted to buy the Owlet Sock even though it is not meant for his specific medical condition.
Best decision of her life.
On June 12/14 2020, the alarm on the sock alerted us that the baby's oxygen was too low; in fact dipped all the way down to the 40s!!!!! We went to check on him and he was not breathing and not responsive. He tried CPR, we tried to elicit a response...but we thought...is this his end? But even though he was not responding to us and his lips turned blue we jacked up his O2 machine to 5L. He immediately went back to a normal O2 and HR. S
Something wasn't making sense...he was gasping for air, and this isn't something the doctors told my sister would happen if he was passing. So she called 911. When they came they didn't want to take him to the ER, he was a hospice case. But she fought for him to be taken.
Long story short, it turns out that he has LOW MAGNESIUM, LOW POTASSIUM and wasn't dying...but because magnesium deficiency can lead to muscle weakness and cramps, fatigue, lethargy....in a baby with his condition it made it much worse and he could have died from it.
So our little miracle got the help he needed at the hospital, they corrected his deficiencies and he came back home. His doctors evaluated him at the hospital again, and my sister showed them videos of him at home. They were shocked. They said this active happy baby doesn't look like he will die soon, and his prognosis was changed to a year, potentially longer to live.
***Without the Owlet sock we would have found him dead in his crib, and we would have thought it was because of his disease***
Instead he came home from the hospital with a new lease on life, and we will continue to wait for clinical trials and new potential drugs that may arrive to help him survive even longer.
Yes it is not a medical device substitute, yes it is not meant to be used on unhealthy babies...but we are thankful we bought it. This product saved his life.
Saved our 2 week old!
I bought this initially because I was terrified of the current pandemic and thought that the Owlet would give us some piece of mind in knowing that our baby was breathing ok. 2 weeks after our son was born, the Owlet alarmed us that his heart rate was 284. At first I thought “no way! I put it on wrong” but reading after reading continued to show that his heart rate was above 280 and inching towards 300. We rushed him to the ER where they were able to successfully bring it down and then he was rushed to picu to be observed for a few more days. We were then informed that he has STV and we are now managing with medication. We will continue to monitor him with the Owlet and now swear by it! I
Saved my 3 month old!
My daughter was napping right on me while I sat on the couch watching tv. The base started alarming and I checked my phone to see why, it said her o2 was 73%. She was asleep right on my chest, I thought there was no way. I readjusted the sock and it still was 73%, alarming like crazy. So I tried to wake her up, she wouldn?t wake up. Then she stopped breathing and started to turn purple. I immediately called 911, and spent the time until they got here trying to wake her up And get her to breathe again. We were admitted for a day, and she has covid results pending. Other than that there is no explanation why that happened. I?m convinced she would?ve been another sids case if I wasn?t alerted her o2 dropped. This monitor saved my daughters life.
Saved my baby's life!
Owlet is not a medical device, it was never intended to take the place of a Dr, nurse, or healthcare facility. Now that I have said that. My daughter was 4 weeks old. I woke up to feed her and I laid her down on her back. I went back to bed as it was about 5am. At 5:55am I was in a deep sleep when suddenly my owlet was wailing RED my phone was alarming as well, because I had the app. I thought my baby had just kicked the sock off. I silence the phone and went to her bassinet. Now I'm a trauma nurse by trade. I have been a trauma nurse for 17yrs. I panicked! My baby face was a deep cherry color and her lips were blue! All of my years of training and experience went out the window. My daughter was dying before my eyes. Long story short she was silently choking. I grabbed her and vigorously pat and rubbed her back causing her to let out a cry, but she was still not breathing. After a hospital stay and showing the Doctors at the children's hospital in my city (her O2sat was 62 her heart rate was 80 which are abnormal for a baby) my Dr. Said "it was a great thing that you had the Owlet, or you would have slept through this event." This is worth every penny. Note: it does not work of you dint put it on the baby foot lol...please use it when you buy it, and make sure it fits properly. My family thanks Owlet!
Best Baby Purchase
I'm a Pulmonary Critical Care Nurse Practitioner and an anxious first time mother. The Owlet is the best gift we received! It provided me so much peace of mind and relieved my anxiety about SIDS. I have had the product for 4.5 months now, and it has alarmed once indicating an elevated heart rate. I guarantee every baby I have will be sleeping with an Owlet!
After losing a child to SIDS, this helped so much!
I bought this for my 4th child after losing my son to sids at 10 weeks old. I didn't think I was going to ever be able to sleep when we had the baby, I was so scared. But when we got it & used it since the day she came home from the hospital, it's been amazing! You have to reconnect it to the WiFi sometimes when you don't use it for a day or so but other than that, it's perfect!
THANK YOU OWLET!
I've used the owlet smart sock with all three of my children. My 3rd baby Hartley is 7 weeks old l, and at 5 weeks we got multiple high heart rate alerts. 304 beats per minute! We saw a cardiologist the next day and they thought no way that can't be right she is acting totally normal. We got sent home with a monitor for the doctor to monitor her heart. Days later we got the diagnosis of a Super Ventricular Tachycardia Arrhythmia. Turns out her heart gets up to 300 beats per minute all through the day and could have been really dangerous if we didn't catch it. I'm so thankful for the owlet. She's now on medication but I sleep easy knowing the owlet works and will let me know if my baby is ok.
I never write anything about products. I'm the one who reads reviews constantly but never contributes, until now. Here's my advice to you about the Owlet...buy it. My baby was born full term, with no issues, but as a paranoid first time mom, I had bought the Owlet sock months earlier on a sale. He's worn it every night since we've been home. Sunday night I put my happy 8 week old baby to bed and hopped in the shower. Two minutes later I got our first ever red alert. I rushed to him, checked on him, and he looked fine, so I thought it was a fluke. I changed the sock to the other foot and got back in the shower. Another red alarm but he seemed fine. Then another. I took him to the hospital, thinking it was nothing, but his oxygen was very low(as the sock had indicated)and he was immediately put on oxygen and taken to ICU. He had had a cold earlier in the week but was doing better, and he had no fever, his mood was amazing, he was eating and sleeping great. I HAD NO IDEA SOMETHING WAS WRONG. This Owlet potentially saved my baby's life. This is the only thing you need. My son is here today to prove that.
Total stress reliever
My first child had a heart defect and has had open heart surgery. He is doing amazing now but we were really worried about having another child bc of everything he went through. We welcomed our 2nd child into the worked on 12/25/19 and thankfully she is heart healthy but bc of my son I have so much anxiety. The owlet helps me relax and sleep at night. It also allows me to see her average numbers through out the night. I wouldn't sleep as well without it and it's the best baby investment I have made.
