Just the all-purpose jacket I was hoping for!

Did someone say the Skyward II is a ski jacket? I say it's a fishing jacket! It's been a darn cold spring here in rural New York State. I took that jacket with me on a camping and fishing trip in the Catskill Mountains. Temps in mid-30's when we set up camp, nice and sunny, but wind was stiff, and this jacket was perfectly comfortable and maneuverable while fishing the shoreline, and out in a canoe. Next evening it started snowing... and didn't stop for 20 hours. Woke up to only 5" of accumulation, but it was heavy and wet and caused a canopy shelter to collapse. Paired with the OR Cathode jacket beneath, the Skyward II shell was the perfect thing to be wearing as we dug the snow away from our sleeping tents using a dog bowl as a snow shovel. Later on, when the fishing was done, I took a quick afternoon hike up to a mountaintop vista and back; the Skyward II was very comfortable hiking, and I definitely used the big side vents to my advantage while going uphill. Gotta say I LOVE the two zipper chest pockets - they are so handy, and this jacket has not just one, but two. Good job OR.

Perfect!

The skyward II jacket is rated by many review sites as the best jacket for backcountry skiing, so I had to try it! So far I have only had a chance to use it resort skiing in Colorado. Have used it on sunny days 45 degrees and in 15 degree days with layering below. The full length zippers on the side (even more than just the armpit zippers), allows for excellent temperature regulation. I took it to the top of the breck peaks an very windy cold days and it kept me perfectly warm and on the hike up was able to ventilate to prevent overheating. Look forward to buying the pants, but the black color sells out fast.

Great shell!

Wonderful shell that fits well and with appropriate layers, either fleece or down for the extremely cold days, performs very well. Blocks wind, insulates, and sheds precipitation as it should. Collar zips up and the hood fits to your head to keep you warm and dry. I highly recommend this shell.
