My children were so excited for this toy to go with their ipad. Weeks later they still love it and ask to play the games often. It is a high quality product. It is a great learning tool and also allows children to use their imagination well playing. It is quite neat how it show images on the screen that your child makes in the mat in front of them. It is absolutely a toy that your child has too much fun with to realize they are learning. I am going tk look into purchasing more Osmo products for my children. My 3 and 5 year old love it. Fun, Interactive Games
The Osmo Little Genius Starter Kit requires an iPad to enjoy the full experience. Once you Download the app, you do not need to be connected to WiFi to play. It includes a nice stand to stand your iPad upright and play games and it comes with a playmat to keep all of the smaller pieces on and reusable Tupperware to store them in for later use. Once you have the app, just create an account and you're good to go. There's lots of very fun and interactive, age appropriate games and activities for your little ones. They loved the right colors on the screen and the tangible pieces. This is a very fun and unique game for my kids. I think it's a great educational alternative to our typical TV on video screen time. A new way to play!
First off I want to start my review with how excited my son was when he received his play set! He loved how he was able to create something and see it pop up on his screen! I loved how it made him think and I loved watching him interact! He was able to create costumes and learned how to create things with the shapes he received in his game set. He knows the circles are used to create eyes and even holds them up to his own. It's actually kind of fascinating watching him learn so much and have so much fun at the same time! My son is about to turn four years old and we have been very strict about his screen time. That said, we know the world we live in and know that he needs to be computer/iPad savvy. We were looking for something that would be both engaging and educational and the Osmo Little Genius fits the bill on both accounts.
For our family, the Osmo has been a great introduction to the world of educational apps and I am so happy we found it. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]
Awesome Learning Program for Your Little One!
I absolutely LOVE this program! I have a two year old daughter (she'll be three in two months) and while she is on the younger side of the recommended age for this program, she still found it very fun and was able to participate and engage. Some tasks were a little difficult for her being on the younger end, but we were able to adapt and do the tasks together which she loved. This is an amazing tool that will help me teach her over the next few years and I'm confident that with this program she will learn much faster. There are four different games that can be played: ABC's, Costume Party, Stories and Squiggle Magic.
The first game we tried was ABC's. My daughter was immediately drawn to the main character “Mo”. He introduced himself and then asked her name and she answered back like it was her best friend. He waved hello and she'd wave back at the screen. He was very kid friendly and engaging. The ABC's game has three different features. First, it puts the letter up on the screen and allows your child to recreate the letter to learn how to write the letter. Using your iPad's camera with the special stand that comes with this pack allows the game to really be interactive. The character then “pulls” your child's creation on the screen in a side by side to the sample letter so they can compare how well they did. Next, the character tells your child what the letter sounds like and uses a word that starts with that letter as an example. My daughter had so much fun listening to the way each letter sounded and practicing with Mo. Last, the character shows an example of the word. For example, when we came across the letter E, he used the word “Egg” and then asked my daughter to create an egg with her game pieces and showed her an example of how to do that. This game was her favorite out of the four. She was able to try and piece together the letters and drawings on the play mat with help, but really learned from the character on what the letters looked like and how they sounded.
The second game we played was the Costume Party. This was the easiest game for her to play. It was basically matching, one of my daughter's favorite games. The character starts in basic under clothes and has several play pieces to mix and match creating several different options for costumes. It shows a thinking cloud with one piece of the puzzle to look for. I laid out all the pieces for her to be able to find and place on the character herself. She was able to do this with minimum help. The second part of this game teachers her colors. Once she's selected all the correct pieces, it then wants her to change the color of a certain piece. It will show the color in the thinking bubble and then she has to select the correct color from twelve color paintbrushes on the side of the screen. We are working on colors so this was not too hard for her. However, I had to help her with knowing what to do with the color once she selected the correct color.
The third game we played was Stories. This was the same matching concept as Costume Party, but a little more difficult. In the beginning of the story it quickly flashes three cards to dress your character up as and doesn't give you a way to review it. For a younger player, this is a difficult task. It also moved the character and started the story as soon as my daughter had one piece of the three piece costume on her character. So she wasn't listening as she tried to get the rest of her pieces on the character. However, she loves stories so for the character to read her a story kept her engaged after that. I also loved how it provided her with the opportunity to think about the tasks in this game. For example, with each head piece and middle (shirt) piece it has one to two objects on either that hat or shirt. This game asked my daughter to help during the story by giving a problem and having her pick the solution. If she chose the wrong object, it would keep going until she picked the right object and gave her hints if she became stuck. This is going to help her develop her problem solving techniques.
The last game we played was Squiggle Magic. This was fun for my daughter because it was her drawings coming to life! In this game, Mo asked her to create a happy face and then pulled her image onto the screen. It then assigned a body to her happy face and had her create a robot head and assigned another body to her creation. She had fun drawing on this game and watching her creations come alive!
I absolutely loved everything about this game! It's going to be wonderful in helping her learn her alphabet, colors and tasks for years to come. The only thing I would like to see improved and the ability to move smoother and go back to a homepage between games. When we initially downloaded the Little Genius app, we had to also download each game individually and when you try to move from one game to another, you have to get out of the current game and reopen the main Osmo Little Genius app because it automatically opens each game in the individual game app (that you downloaded separately). I do love that there is a parent app that I could download and see progress on. It gives you updates such as recent activity, media gallery and achievements. This feature is great if you have children on the older side of the recommended age spectrum who can understand and play each game by themselves for independent play. If you have more than one child in the age range for this product, you can create a separate profile for each child. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]
Interactive and Fun
My daughter is 4 and a half and had a lot of fun with this. She loves learning games and this gave her an option to use her tablet but also interact and learn. She had fun using it with a friend at my husband's office and it kept them entertained and learning at the same time. It is really cool technology and I love that it's portable so you can take it with you and set it up just about anywhere. It reinforces the learning concepts from preschool and enriches her learning. Great for educational fun!
I have a daughter who just turned five and loves to watch videos and play on her iPad every day. I found this to be the perfect way to make her screen time more educational and fun! This is a great kit because not only are they having fun they are learning things they need to know for pre-k and kindergarten. In this kit is the iPad base, silicone sticks and rings, play costumes, a game mat, games and more! This is loaded with so much stuff to do I have yet to hear my child say she is bored of it! When we first set this up the whole process only took about 15 minutes which is less than I thought it would take when I first opened the box. My daughter enjoys practicing the shapes of the letters and playing with the cute characters. There are stories that help kids learn problem solving skills work on their motor skills. All pieces of this kit are high quality and durable through all the long hours of play time. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Great Educational Tool
I received this product a couple weeks ago and my son could not wait to set it up. It is recommended for ages 3-5 and my son is 2 but advanced for his age. He loved getting to play with the pieces even without the iPad but once we got the iPad set up he was even more interested in the product. The games are both challenging and simple so it makes it fun as well as educational. I like how it incorporates technology with hands on pieces so that the child is not just looking at a screen. The game allows the child to expand their imagination and creativity all while learning at the same time. The set up was easy and there are four games to download. One con was that I had to download each game instead of it all being in one app. I would have to close out of each game to play a different one. However, the apps are easy to use and straightforward so my son could open each on their own. The quality of the product is excellent and everything feels durable which is necessary for a young child's toy. The silicone and costume pieces each had their own storage containers to keep everything organized neatly to store away. One other con is that the Osmo base and camera attachment only works without the case being on which can be a pain having to remove it to play. I would recommend this product to friends and I would like to buy the other sets to expand our collection for even more fun. It would be a great tool to have in classrooms!
