    An exceptional product
Wasn't pleased with the packaging condition. I was surprised it wasn't damaged.I photographed it before I left the store for proof of condition. It took about 30 minutes to assemble everything was there to my surprise considering the packaging condition. This is an awesome grill. Love it! It's a heavy duty grill and appears it will serve well. Hope it lives up to the BARB-E-CHEF from Grills Gallore I used for 14 years and multiple replacement grates.

    Excellent Smoker

Easy assembly with all the components fitting as they're supposed to. Good quality materials and heavy gauge metal. You can't tell the difference between the Highland and the twice as expensive Longhorn smoker. Heat was consistent and long lasting with minimal loss of smoke. The brisket, pork and turkey all came out great with the first cook!!

Excellent product for an amazing price

I was really shocked when I got this smoker built. Almost 3x heavier construction then my old char broil 1280 which mind you leaked like no tomorrow. I'm extremely happy with my purchase plus I got it for 100.00+ LESS then other stores are selling it for. 5 ☆☆☆☆☆.

    Best grill we've ever had!!

Very heavy duty awesome charcoal grill. Love the smoker on the side. So easy to keep the coals going with the side door and the overall heavy duty build for all parts make you think you paid hundreds more! Grill space fits ample food for an aimpressive spread and Food tastes amazing! Best purchase for a great bbq! Great job Oaklahoma Joe!!

    Perfect smoker

This grill is absolutely perfect. Heat distributes perfectly even and it's super simple to keep at 220%. This is an absolute must have. Quality is phenomenal.

    1. I did three mods when I assembled this smoker. I used food-grade, high-temp silicone to seal all the joints and bolt/screw holes. I installed fire gasket material around both the firebox and cook chamber lids. And I built a charcoal basket out of 3/4" expanded metal from Home Depot (instructions available online). I did not add heat plates, baffles, or any other internal items. It took me a few cooks to get used to how this smoker burns, as it was my first horizontal. I've used vertical barrel smokers for a couple of decades. Once I learned how to manage the firebox and smokestack dampers, I can get this cooker down to as low as 195deg consistently, or as high as 375deg, at the grate (tracked with a couple of bluetooth thermometers at grate level). My temp spreads range from 15deg on a very windy day to 3deg when it's calmer. Most of the time, they are single digits throughout the cook, once the chamber temp is up and stabilized. I've used store-brand, Kingsford, and Stubbs charcoal. All of it works, but the Stubbs gives the most consistent burn, followed by the Kingsford and then the storebrand stuff. I have used chunks and chips for smoke, as well as prunings from cherry, pear, and apple trees from a friend. My method is to get a chimney of coals good and hot, then dump that into my coal basket in the middle of a bunch of unlit charcoal, then toss on wood as needed for smoke once the temps are up, stable, and the food is on. On the windiest days, I am running a basket of coals every 3-4hrs, and on calm days I can run closer to 5-6hrs on a basket. For an all day smoke of a batch of pork butts, I'll use one sack of charcoal, on average. I used just over a sack on a very windy day doing two 12lb turkeys for about 6hrs, and then another couple of hours for some ribs. For the ribs, I raised the temps, though, which is how I ended up going into the second bag. I probably could have left it alone, as the coals took another 3 hours to burn out completely, and the temps stayed above 250deg for 2hrs of the burn down. If you're on the fence about a horizontal cooker, this one is a great option. Everything I've cooked has been delicious and the family has been on me to smoke more.

    2. the temp. hold is good you can adjust the temperature by adjusting the lid on the vent stack and on the fire box vent the temp range varies I like to keep mine at 250 to 300 I have had good results. low an slow..
    by grillMAN59
    3. This Oklahoma Joe's Offset Smoker holds temperature really well. Low and slow is the name of the game when it comes to offset smoking. This offset smoker can be used as a smoker and as a grill so it is able to reach a wide variety of temperatures.
    by Charbroil
    4. got it up to 475 but got it down to 250 there are some vids on youtube about this grill
    by vicloo55
    5. 225-300 is good. Charcoal last 1 1/2 hours. Dont over do it with the smoke chips. Remember, you smokin for 6 + hours no need to over do it with the Pecan, Maple or Hickory chips. As soon as you see the temp start to fall after hour and a half, start another batch of charcoal.
    by KDragger
    6. The temperature hold is terrible. The smoking chamber leaks so bad that maintaining consistent heat is impossible. I was extremely disappointed with this purchase.
    by joshinky
    7. Using lavalock, I sealed my firebox halves and the connection between the firebox and cook chamber. I then built a coal basket measuring 12"X14"X8". With the basket about 3/4 full of charcoal and no lighter fluid. I used the firebox dampener to hold my temps between 275 and 325 for 6 hrs!! With a few simple modifications and a little investment in time and/or money, this smoker is as close to top notch as you will every get at this price!

    8. With a combination of charcoal and wood, I was able to hold 350° pretty steadily for 8 hours while we cooked some roasts over Thanksgiving weekend. It burned through about 15 lbs of charcoal and about 12 lbs of seasoned Oak. I had a ½ gallon pan of water right in front of the fire pit opening. It still had a little water when we finished. It was about 75° outside and windy. The pork roasts came out perfect. We smoked them open for about 6 hours and then wrapped them with foil for the last 2. Tender and juicy. I let them rest for about an hour in an oven at 150° until we were ready to serve.

    9. See my recent review. I did some mods to assist with temperature control and basically my Highlander held same temp for 2-hours without any adjustments. The problem became the coal box I built used 1/2" expanded metal and I probably should have used 3/4" so the holes were bigger and gave more room for the ashes to fall away. While holding steady, the left and right side of the main chamber was +/- 3 degrees. Also, due to the gap in the firebox door, with the intake completely closed and vent 50% closed my Highlander never dropped below 260. Once I seal the firebox door gap, I expect to be able to drop it to 200.

    2. This Oklahoma Joe's Offset Smoker is designed in the United States and manufactured in China.

    3. Mine says made in China but distributed from Georgia. This is a very heavy, metal/iron grill. Well worth your investment. I have owned several grill/smokers in my life but this is one worth the money. I recommend it.

    3. MY HUSBAND USES BOTH
    by Bemax6
    4. yes I have used both
    by vicloo55
    5. Stan, I have used a combination of charcoal and wood in this unit. Either works great. Look on YouTube for some good ideas for improving the smoker after purchasing it. For example, you can raise the level of the firebox grate with four bolts and washers - this helps prevent the ash buildup from reaching the bottom of the fire itself and subsequently improves the air flow to the entire fire.
    by Sid32
    6. You can use either, but if you only use wood, the firebox door is fairly small so you'd have to pay close attention to the size of logs you use. The "small" firebox is more suited to using the minion method with mainly coal and your wood chunks between the coal box and firebox walls.
