Most helpful positive review
Everything I ever wanted in a Laptop
It's actually everything that I ever wanted in a laptop. A sizeable 1080p matte screen, yet a very manageable form factor, responsive and fast in performance mode, yet also has long battery life (6+ hours) when running in power save mode. A back lit keyboard with number pad (programmable back lite is very cool), dedicated graphics card, fast ssd and also large hdd. It has all the ports I wanted; hdmi, ethernet, usb3, sd, headphone, mic. There will be fan noise while taxing the cpu and gpu, but I think it's normal and I usually have earbuds on anyway so it doesn't bother me. At least it doesn't overheat like my old 17" Macbook Pro. Built in speakers are equivalent to most phones, but I don't ever use them since I usually use earbuds or a sound system. I actually like that they didn't waste money on trying to get "good" speakers. They also didn't waste money on a touchscreen nor some kind of gimmicky way for it to be folded into a tablet form factor. I like that it's a generic design. If you don't like the logo, just cover it up with a sticker.

Worked decently up to spec until it got stuck at an Aptio Setup screen and would not function without servicing about 8 months into use. Never had an issue like this with another laptop.

Persistence paid off!

Finally managed to snag one at this price after checking daily for week! Incredible bargain as the Keyboard/backlighting are great, the screen is incredible, great performance with gaming and photo editing Cons: +edges are indeed pretty sharp +audio is a bit quiet overall +battery is weak But those are pretty minor issues i expected upon order, 5/5 Very happy with purchase!

Great laptop for this cost, immediately swapped the ram for a dual channel kit and it is impressively fast. Most other laptops in this range of specs are going for $1200+ Eventually I plan on removing the HDD and adding a larger battery for more portability but for now it is great!

Best value computer when its on discount

Small footprint, great specs. Have been using this for about 6 months as my productivity machine. Added another NVME drive and another 16GB stick. No issues processing very large excel files. +500 megabyte files, 1 million plus rows.

Don't let the name fool you

This laptop gets a lot of hate from the PC community, but let's make it clear, this is not the same as the OP desktops. Tonfang manufactures these for Walmart and Walmart puts their name on it. Some of the branding might be garish, but under the hood this thing is a beast for a laptop. With some light tweaking, the i7-8750H really shines (See pic). Same specced laptops in the same chassis from other system integrators are well over $1100. At $799 this laptop is a steal. Grab it while you can.

Linus Tech Tips recommended

Everything you need to know about this laptop you can watch from this video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q13t_r8o4rY Caveat: get yourself a dual channel kit or just pop in another 16GB stick to make it dual channel to avoid throttling. Other than that, for $800 it is a great value proposition for the parts that you're getting. Keep in mind it is still a plastic chassis so you do have to baby it a little bit. Regardless, if you treat your gear well, your gear should treat you well as well. It's a policy I've always tried to keep with my own personal gear (as well as people). Do onto others as you would have them do onto you. Happy Holidays and Happy Gaming. ;-)

nice laptop

I bought this laptop 6 months ago or so, so far, it's been decent. keyboard is so so, have to push harder on the keys or sometimes it won't type. The speakers are quite, but I use a headset do nbd, edges are sharp, but it runs games well.

Very mixed feelings...

The specs are an excellent value for the money. That's where the good ends. I am very torn as to this unit. First of after owning for several days and using non stop and currently writing the review on it, the keyboard is very sub-par. I can't count how many mistakes I made so far... It really is not "mechanical" at all but rather some sort of proprietary clicking sounding mushy mechanism. I often miss key registers by not pressing hard enough, and sometimes double type (period symbol happens all the time) This is my biggest criticism. It is the most important part of the machine since it's used the most and feels very half-baked. Keys slope weirdly outward and I often find myself hitting the wrong key. It also feels cramped. The numerical pad did not need to be included and it would have been better to space the keys out better. Case is nice and sturdy, but does have sharp edges that will dig into your skin depending on how you are resting your hands on the laptop. Screen is nice and bright for a gaming laptop, with nice color gamut, however there is significant light bleed coming in from the bottom, visible on black and dark gray backgrounds. The 144hz panel is great for games that will utilize those high refresh rates. This means mostly older titles like CS GO and the like. The battery life is abysmal, but this is somewhat ok with a gaming laptop. Trackpad is absolute trash. Tracking is bad, and clicking feels laborious. Lack of thunderbolt 3 port is disappointing paired with rest of specs. RGB and overall look of the machine is nice. I will not be keeping this unit. My biggest gripes and reason for return are the bad keyboard and the light bleed on the screen. The two things we use the most on our machines should have been perfect, and I would have been able to overlook the rest.

Worked decently up to spec until it got stuck at an Aptio Setup screen and would not function without servicing about 8 months into use. Never had an issue like this with another laptop.

Stopped working after 3 months

The laptop worked fine for 3 months then the nvidia graphics card stopped working. Hoping the warranty will be able to help because it wont load windows anymore either for me to try.

1. Here is a note from our (contract manufacturer in Asia). There is a system protection mechanism called - Power Limiting (usually called PL1/PL2). This feature was designed to avoid CPU over-heating and to protect the ac adapter from any over-heating issues as this is a safety concern. It is not possible to remove this function for these reasons, and also please consider that unlike desktop power supply which can be 600W, 700W, 800W etc... a laptop is designed to function differently. Note, our other systems designed and built with similar specs also have the same system power limiting function built-in as well.

2. I just want to point out there is no 35W power limit issue. People are completely misunderstanding this and characterizing it as some problem with the device. Every single device with an i7-8750H and only a single stick of RAM will only really be able to push maybe 35 or 40W in a game. This is not specific to this OverPowered laptop. There is no power limit throttling happening and this cannot be fixed because it is not a problem. It is simply because most games are more memory intensive and having a single stick of RAM is bottlenecking the system and thus it can't push the CPU to maximum load. When maximum load is detected, the system will automatically turbo boost the CPU frequency (and thus increase the power draw up to 60W) but most games simply just can't put that much load on the CPU with only 1 stick of RAM. Hope that makes sense!

3. You must have the RAM in duel channel to avoid the power limit throttling. The 15 comes with just 1x16gb stick so it is running single channel at the time of purchase.
