Novogratz Addison City Bookcase arrived as expected in a large box well packaged to reduce the chance of damage. When I opened the box, I was happy to see that this bookcase was not just white but also had some grey backing to it. I reviewed the direction booklet and got myself the tools I would need, a hammer and two screwdrivers. This always pleases me when regular tools are used instead of an allen wrench. I was a little concerned about the use of the cam system since I do not have the greatest history of putting things together well with cams. All the pieces were well labeled with a sticker noting a letter that corresponded to the instructions. When laying the pieces out, it was obvious right away that the pieces are made well. I really loved to see that the bottom of the bookcase has some rounded detailing that really adds to the character of the bookcase. Other pieces also have rounded corners making this bookcase a little less likely for a child to get a bad scratch on the corners. I was able to put the bookcase together in less than two hours with the help of my young daughter. I was pleasantly surprised how well I did with cam system. The directions are very helpful showing how to line up the cam and how to “lock” it. Each “locked” cam was strong and I didn't feel like they were going to loosen before I got the next piece on. Once the bookcase was built, I was happy with the overall look. I was surprised it had the new smell for a few days and I wished I had just opened the box and let it air out a bit before putting in my daughter's room. The smell was gone in the few days though. The bookcase mimics a little house with cubes for books or toys. My daughter instantly used it as a little couch for her and her dolls (I checked the weight limit which is 40 pounds for that shelf). In the picture you can see that she filled it with several toys. Overall, I love the style, color, quality and storage space of this bookcase. Plus, it currently seems to be my daughter's most favorite piece of furniture in her room now.
