Want to up your game and show off to friends when they come over? This unit looks sleek and and a great welcome addition to any personal bar or even kitchen counter. I'm a homebrewer and this is a great way to share my brews with others while having that "drink at the bar" freshness at my home. Of course you could also fit any mini-keg sized beer that you buy commercially in the unit as well. It's super easy to connect, tap, and dispense and comes to temperature quickly. Highly recommend this unit. * I am writing this review as part of a contest.
I purchased this a few months ago and now that I finished my second growler of beer I feel I can give it a fair review. This is what I found....IT WORKS! You just need to learn somethings. +Not only should you chill the beer, but chill the water you put in the bottom too. It's better at maintaining temperature that bringing it down. +When installing the CO2 cartridge be quick, once the cartridge gets pierced you'll lose gas if you don't get the cap screwed down firmly asap. +Setting the temperature (Range 34-54), the display shows two temperatures, the one you're setting it to and the other is the current temp. I first set mind at 34 and the cooling fan came on and the display showed 38, once it reached 34 the fan shut off. I then set it up to 40, and it held below this for the rest of the evening. The next morning the fan was running and display read 42, it shut off at 40, but temp. continued to drop reaching 38. And if the beer isn't chilled to your liking, just keep some glasses in the freezer. +Pouring a beer: You DO NOT need to set the gas valve to Max, in fact I just barely turned mine on, just enough till I heard the gas flowing then shut it off. At first I had some foam, but most likely because there was air in the lines and once that cleared it was fine. And when it slowed down I just turned the gas on/off again. I did notice as the growler empties you will need more gas to maintain flow. Two growlers and still on first cartridge too. My first growler the beer was in for over a week and still fine, as far as 30 days? I wouldn't have the beer that long. +Purchasing this I just happened to find it in my local store not knowing they even stocked it(1of3 in my area and the only one that had it, checked out of curiosity, so check around)and at 1/3 less the price here. +Replacement cartridges, I contacted Nostalgia and (surprisingly)they recommended where to get them, "Whip It Brand", but I don't know why? They only carry 8 gram cartridges, not 16's. So I purchased some from A****n, they are a fraction shorter than the originals, but unless you can find them local where you can compare sizes it'll be hard to know what you'll get. I'll just use a piece of foam or cloth to make up the difference. Oh and the growler is not 5 liters, it's more like a gallon, leaving some jostle room. But since breweries sell their beer in 64oz (1/2 gallons) this'll be two of those. My only real complaint is I wish they provided a cap to use when taking the growler to get filled, I'm not crazy about using the cap with the valve/pick up tube assembly. Nostalgia said they may eventually provide one? In ending I have to say I have not experienced any of the problems other reviews have had and the instructions seemed fine to me, kinda was a no brainier.
Found at a sister store for a considerable savings, just happened to see them in one of the main isles.
I had thought of buying when it was in the holiday gift guide for a bit less, but the price wouldn't reduce when I went to check out.
Glad I didn't get it then.
This machine is better that the Fizzic machines in that it keeps the beer under gas pressure allowing the beer to remain fresh for an extended time.
Looking forward to using it.
Even the extended warranty was less, (but for 2 years the $ per year is less)
I was skeptical but no more. I took the growler to a local brewery and they were all impressed. 5 litres is large for a growler so I feel even luckier. Tell your wife you'll save money because for the cost of a good 12 pack you can have great beer at home. I haven't even explored better deals such as happy hour refills as a friend suggested but love it so far. Easy set up and quiet operation make this a great deal.
This thing is amazing, I read rge reviews prior ti purchasing and I was a little nervous. Prior to setting the unit up I did make sure to read through the directions thoroughly. I set everything up and had zero issues it keeps the beer cold you control the amount of foam you want and it truly makes an amazing gift.
