I just love this machine!! Provides lots of fun and yummy popcorn for the family. I have used it a few times and never once has it burned. Easy to assemble and easy to clean up. I would ignore the bad reviews and try it out for yourself. I have bought the hotdog maker and soon will be purchasing the slushie machine and cotton candy maker. It is fun for all ages.

Retro Popcorn Machine

I bought this for my Dad who is around 70 and does not read instructions and is not mechanically inclined at all and he has been using this machine since he got it without any problems at all. He loves how it works and how the popcorn tastes. There has been no problems with it as long as you use the correct oil in it. My brother got one for his wife and all he had was canola oil on hand and decided to use it. The kernels got stuck in the metal pot on top. My Dad got the oil that it said to use and he's never had a problem. It's been wonderful!

Delicious Popcorn!

I received this (as well as a retro cotton candy machine) as a Christmas gift from my parents. Before I left my parents' house on Christmas Eve we were eating fresh, hot movie theater style popcorn! We cleaned the unit, warmed it up for about 5 minutes and had popcorn less than 5 minutes later! I love the look of this popcorn machine, too! I had a hint that I was getting this as a present, so I had already gone to Market Grocery at the State Farmer's Market in Forest Park (I live in the Atlanta area). They sell pre-portioned packs of popcorn kernels (with salt added) and oil. These packs are made for 8 oz. poppers, so I use 1/4 of it at a time. I love buttery popcorn salt (not the white popcorn salt you can buy at grocery stores), so I was able to buy a carton of it for less than $2! I have only a few complaints: 1. Not all popcorn kernels pop. It's not an awful amount that don't. I just don't like to waste them! 2. When cleaning the unit, salt and crumbs are difficult to pick up. There should be holes in the bottom metal plate and a pull out drawer holding all of the crumbs under that to ease the cleaning process. 3. Sometimes small pieces of popped corn get stuck under the motorized spinning arm within the kettle. This causes the unit to stop turning and burns the popcorn if you aren't able to get to the machine fast enough to fix the problem. This has only happened to me 2-3 times out of the 20+ times I've used the machine, but it's still annoying. I believe this happens because the spinning arm is raised from the bottom of the kettle. It should be flush with the bottom like in commercial popcorn machines. Other than those 3 minor complaints, I love this machine. Anyone that comes over always requests a bag of my popcorn before they leave! Since it takes less than 10 minutes to make the first batch and less than 5 minutes to make additional batches, it's not a problem. It would take just as long to pop a store bought bag of popcorn in the microwave. Using this machine makes almost as much (I'd say 1 batch is equal to about 3/4 of a bag)! I recommend this retro popcorn maker to everyone who loves fresh movie theater popcorn without the price of a movie ticket (or the price of the popcorn)!

The overall product makes good popcorn, but here is a simple fix for cleaning, simply line the bottom with foil.

I bought this for our office. It looks great. I fired it up and it worked fine. It does throw out a few too many unpopped kernels as previously stated. I had read other reviews (on other sites) stating that the popcorn did not pop out of the kettle and burned but I have yet to have that problem, it works great even though it doesn't pop very much at a time (3 batches will fill it up). The best thing going for it is the cool retro look. The price is a bit high for what you get especially since it is a little flimsy because it is all plastic.

Hot Popping Pleasure!

Sweet machine with class for the price! I love it! My kitchen is all retro-fifties and it fit in beautifully with it's cool, classy features and 'diner' red coloring. It's smaller than appears in the display picture and fits most anywhere, but be sure to have a fair-sized counter beneath it as you scoop out the popped popcorn into a pan. You will inevitably lose a few pieces and don't want them all over the floor. I've tried butter-flavored oil, grapeseed oil, and extra virgin olive oil in the recipes, and the best is clearly the grapeseed oil. Not only does it cook clean but it gives the popcorn a sweeter taste. My only complaint is there seems to be a lot of kernels left after each use. I've tried using less or more amounts but still get a lot of unpopped kernels. I would highly recommend this product for the avid popcorn lover. It's fast, and it's cute!

It's user friendly and easy to clean. The only issue is the amount of kernels left to clean out inside the machine (a vacuum cleaner is required). Love the style and it doesn't take up that much space.

I enjoy this popper because it makes real good pop corn. I recommend using olive oil and only use about half the little measure cup full of kernels. One half full of the measure cup of olive oil. You will be pleased.

I'm in love with this unit. I've always wanted one of these theatre style makers since I first tasted popcorn in a theatre. The yummy lightly salted corn with the warm melted butter on every cornel. But $400 or even $300. Was too much money not to mention size & where to put it in the house! Well friends, this is the machine for me & YOU! This Retro Machine makes it so easy my 5 year old Grandson makes it himself & for us all! And small enough to fit on top of the Microwave, along side the Espresso machine. Well made, easy to clean & care for, it's Perfect! I LOVE my Theatre popcorn machine. Thank you for making my Popcorn Dream come true. Mr. Greg, Michigan.

  • A. On line or at Wal-Mart. Or, you can use your own store popcorn and coconut or peanut oil. This unit comes complete with two measuring scoops for your own use of corn & oil.

  • A. The machine comes with a measuring scoop for the popcorn and another for the oil. I would use the traditional popcorn and save money instead of paying for the packs, but the packs are available online. It's a no-brainer recipe to make the popcorn from scratch--just popcorn and oil in the right measurements from the scoop and tablespoon provided with the machine. You can't go wrong with it.
