Love this idk why I didn't purchased this sooner. Works well keeps my puppies in the kitchen. I love that it's super easy to open and close and it's super easy to just remove gate if you just want to clear the door way. I did modify the one wall mount to make it easier and faster to lock the gate. I only put one wall lock mount the correct way and the extra one that I had left, I installed sideways on the doorway just to give the gate a bit if support to kinda hold the gate from moving forward at all since I didn't want to use the lock system at the bottom. This makes it soon much easier instead of hooking both top and bottom lock I only use one at the top. Super happy with the my purchased.

The Good: ------------------------------------------------- - It mounts to the wall so you're not tripping over the bracket like some gates. - It easily expandable for on-the-fly adjustments. - It's reversible for hinging both directions (I had to read the directions to figure this out). - The latch is nice and sturdy - not something a child will be able to defeat. ------------------------------------------------- The Bad: - It doesn't have velcro or latch to keep it in the "open" position when not in use. This is probably due to the way I mounted the bracket to the wall, but it slowly swings closed when not in use. It doesn't latch automatically, just swings closed. - It's a little wonky to get it latched. You pull the lever, lift up on the latch end of the gate, and wiggle it around until both the top and bottom gate pegs fit into the wall brackets. Good for preventing kids from figuring it out, but also good for preventing parents from figuring it out. ------------------------------------------------- Overall, it's great top-of-the-stairs gate for the price ($20). I got it because it's cheap and it mounts to the wall. You don't want a pressure-mounted gate for the top of the stairs because the bracket that holds the ends apart is a tripping hazard. If you have a bigger budget, get a wall-mounting gate with a better latch like the Cardinal Gates Auto-Lock Gate ($85). I haven't tried it, but the latching mechanism looks much nicer.

We have 3 of these gates to keep our pup inclosed in the kitchen. Works great. Easy to open and shut. We did not buy them all together. Bought one, decided we liked it bought the second, still liked it, bought the third. They are not fancy but the are functional.

My husband was capable of installing and that says a lot in itself. He's not the handiest of men. We love that it swings and you don't have to step over anything. Just walk thru like normal. The latch does take a lil bit of getting use to. You have to fit a plastic piece into the top and bottom to lock it. It works great. Looks good. The dogs are scared of it and now stay out of the kitchen. (We don't really have to lock it anymore, they just stay out now). No more potential accidents. The only thing is that a really small dog can squeeze themselves under it, if you try to use it as a form of a cage. Reasonably priced too. Great delivery.

The cups to mount the gate are between the two pieces that slide with no way that my husband or I could find to get them out from between the two sides so it was a waist of time and money.

  • A. I don't see why not, as long as you mount it securely. It's all plastic except for the screws, so it should be fairly rainproof. However, I think freezing weather or direct sun may cause the plastic to crack over time.

  • A. Don't think it is OUTDOOR rated but the entire thing is PLASTIC so it would last for quite a while. Couple screw for the Baby Safety Latch are metal. The rest is all Plastic but still sturdy.

  • A. Yes it will mount right. On one side you measure 3 inches up the wall and on the other side you measure 4 1/2 inches up the wall so it will clear the baseboards just fine. Also my walls at the top of the stairs are not straight across and a little uneven and it is working just fine.

  • A. I think you would either have to a) mount the gate high enough so that the bottom brackets are above the baseboard, or b) if you have to mount the bottom brackets to the baseboard, make shims the same width as your baseboard, attach these to the walls and mount the upper brackets to those. How high is your baseboard? I was able to mount mine above the baseboard and it is just right. I think our baseboard is about 3 inches high.

  • A. Yes, you mount the bottom hinges at least 4 inches above the ground. You can decide how high to mount it as long as your child doesn't have a teensy head that would fit through a couple inch gap, you could move it up if you needed to. I think you could mount it without modifying it at all though.

  • A. I have installed this gate with baseboards at the top of the stairs, and i screwed the bottom mounts in the drywall with anchors right above the baseboard, and there is only an inch or two clearance under the gate which worked for me. You could also install painted wooden boards in between your gate with the same thickness as your baseboards to even out your wall which will give you more options for height.

  • A. Yes it will mount right. Each corner has it's own adjuster to allow for uneven, not square surfaces I had not thought of thi before but this feature makes it an even better value. It is a great gate!
