Most helpful positive review
I got this for a recent trip to SF, surprisingly used it more than my iPhone, it's HEAVY but packed with lots of Goodie mode, easier to operate than my d7000, the zoom is beyond amazing, the pic tone and compensation for a newbie is Great, the down side is the bluetooth connection is complicated and slow. When you reset to factory settings.. It mess up the whole initial setup. But.above all it's a great camera.

Love the The Super zoom and bird Mode

Amazing camera

I wanted to get back into photography after many years. I was using an SLR with a 28mm, a 70-210mm zoom, and a 100-300mm zoom as well as a 2X tele converter. Being retired, I couldn't afford to buy the equivalent digital equipment, and was excited to find this camera. I am still learning how to use it effectively, and I am astounded and impressed with the zoom range. I am looking forward to entering contests again

Game Changer

Im an avid birder and I used a D3200 for a while until I saw the review for the P1000 , A friend recommended it for me and I bought one ,best decision I could make .The photo quality and zoom capability are second to none ,in my opinion , no longer do I have to sneak up on my subjects thanks for a great product

Great camera for the price

I was amazed how good this camera is. I do a lot of air shows and shoot a lot of nature pictures. I got a SX60 last year and liked it but the P1000 blows it out of the water. Love the lens range and many of the other features and has worked well for me so far in nature. Air shows coming this summer. Its a fun camera to use and I can't see this sitting a lot as it goes with me every time I go out. Still learning and enjoying it more.

Short time owner - Still learning the camera

While I've only had the P1000 for a short time and I'm still learning how to operate it, I'm finding it's doing just what I thought it would for me & I'm quite happy with it. I own the P900 also and while some things are similar there is still a learning curve. It is a goods bit heavier than the P900 which takes quite a bit of getting use to, I've had to go to a heavier monopod to support it. I'm glad I made the purchase!

Love the P1000

I just got the camera Thursday (9-13-18). It took some practice shooting at full zoom without a tripod, as the camera shake was a bit much until you got used to it. I am amazed at the full zoom. I took three pictures of the Great American Tower in Cincinnati from a spot about 5.25 miles away from the building (St. Joseph New Cemetery in Delhi Twp) and the clarity of the building's "crown" was impressive. The first is at 24 mm, and the building's are barely visible above the treeline in the center of the photo. The third is at full zoom without a tripod.

This is the one!

As someone who loves cameras and has used pretty much all them, from the Brownie to advanced digital, from Polaroid to medium format, from range finders to 35mm and point and shoot, this one clearly stands out as the camera that can do it all. If you are an outdoor enthusiast, a hiker, birder or just a nature lover, however, there is no better camera to take along with you than this one. It does it all.

The zooming is obviously incredible, but there are so many features that are worth exploring and using on a regular basis, it would be impossible for me name a favorite. It's like listening to a Beethoven Symphony. It is always the one that you are listening to in the moment, in this case using, that you love the best. Frankly, I postponed reviewing the camera because of all the features, and I have still not mastered every one of them, so I was hesitant to respond to today's invitation to review, but I'm doing so for the simple reason that I truly do love this camera, and I believe others will too. As dazzling as is the zoom capability, I have to say that I use the close up feature as much or more. It is phenomenal for photographing mushrooms, for example. I'm still trying to master the birding feature. I have had some luck, but I need to practice more. The snap back feature is very useful and this has helped a lot. There is nothing to say bad about the camera. The quality of the photos are awesome and the connectivity of the camera in the field and at home enhance the entire experience. As well, the network feature is awesome in tandem with the remote control.

One issue that might come up while trying to make a decision is the weight of the camera. It's like a regular camera, not the traditional "point and shoot." For me, the weight of the camera, though, is not a problem at all. I use a chest mount to carry the camera, when I'm in the field. Since the carrier puts the weight on the shoulders, you hardly feel it at all, but the camera is right there, ready to use. In the past, I had gone the route with both a film and a digital camera, at one time or another, and with all the accompanying lenses, the weight and space of an outfit like that far exceeds the P1000. Maybe at one time, the lure of changing lenses for something in particular attracted me, but it does so no longer. This camera makes everything possible without much ado.

Great addition to the P-x line

So I've owned the P500, 550, 900, and now the P1000, abs I've been very satisfied with each of those cameras. They're great for pro-sumers who like long focal length choices in a convenient package (I also shoot with a D800 with pro lenses). I've only been able to shoot the P1000 on one trip so far, but looking forward to more. Let the pics speak for themselves

How to go from iPhone Photography to the P1000

I can easily use the auto settings on the P1000. But the camera is capable of so much more and I just cannot learn it on my own. The User's Manual is useless to me. It is the perfect camera for an iPhone Photographer who is going on vacation and needs it to shoot details or animals too far away for the iPhone, like whales or elephants. It can do a lot more, just making a point. And those things can be photographed in auto. But when I tried to learn how to shoot the Milky Way I felt like I should give up on manual photography. I need a series of YouTube Videos to teach me all the subtleties of the camera compared to an iPhone, not compared to a DSLR or Mirrorless camera. I teach iPhone Photography on cruise ships when we travel and there are a lot more of us who would buy a P1000 if you could teach us how to go from iPhone Photography to P1000 Photography, and the P900 youTubes are not helpful on the P1000 either. I realize this is a narrow market, but it is deep. A P1000 costs less than an iPhone x or 11 Max. So the price is not an issue. It is reaching the millions of seniors with money they are willing to spend if you can make the camera a user friendly experience instead of a stressful one. By the way, these cruises are 4-5 months long and go around the world.

Potential packed p1000

A potential packed camera for extremely wide range of photographers. It is bulky but stable for hand held photography. At the same time, it is much lighter and faster for taking pictures for those who keep a set of lens and devote time in selecting and replacing. The image quality and formats seems alright subject to further usage.
