Spots on sensor in upper corner, followed by complete self destruction of the mirror box mechanism.

Purchased in may of 2014. I've been thrilled with the field of view with the 35 mm sensor. Really good performer in low light. I started noticing spots in the upper left hand corner in June. I assumed that because this camera was supposedly the fix to that same issue with the Nikon d600, that it was just something to be nothing out of the ordinary for a full frame camera. The mirror failed to cycle completely when shooting a burst of images in live view a couple weeks ago and the shutter is stuck . The camera is completely useless. I'm beginning to question the quality of the products Nikon is producing now. Will be sending it in for repair. Dear Nikon, did you actually do anything besides print a new sticker for the d600?

cons: These cons are personal preferences and in general do not detract from the overall 5 stars I gave it. I would have preferred 16 mp sensor and 51 point focus, but I guess Nikon would never give you everything at once. I don't understand why anyone who bought a camera of this quality would use a scene mode. And speaking of the mode dial, why does it need a lock button? I've been taking pictures and using the mode dial on several different cameras for a long time and the mode dial never moved without me moving it. Pros: I've had the d610 for a couple of months now. I use it with a 100 mm macro as my prime lens. This camera combined with the macro is just fantastic! I couldn't wish for anything better. I shoot mostly outside with bright sun, but for the few times I've shot portraits indoors with low lighting I've been able to push the ISO to 4000 without much noise at all. I have xx large hands and they really fit this camera perfectly. I also use a d40 with a 18-250 mm zoom and a d300s with a super tele-zoom

The Nikon D610 Excellent I bought the camera in July of 2014 and love it, it so good fast and built well. I can only say I really love my D610 it brings me back to the good old days of 35 mm film my F801s, FE, FM2, FA and N2020 to name some of my Cameras. Also I had to say a D70s and a D7000. My D7000 I traded it in for something else. I want to by another D610 or may look at the D750 but to say I like the BM-14 LCD Cover for the D610 and maybe there is no Cover for the D750 so I will see what I buy. I like to have less moving parts like the LCD on my D610 but have to think and talk to the store to make up my mind. I am looking to have two (2) FX cameras to use. I am also thinking of the D800 – D810 for a Second or main Body Camera. To say I hope the next camera that replaces the D610 has a LCD cover I find it to be a good add on to protect the LCD. I have my camera bouncing on my chest and so on. I would recommend to any one the D610.

Now that I have owned a D-610 for close to two years , I can honestly give this camera a proper review. This is one great digital camera ( Note: I said great and not excellent. I have yet to come across an excellent digital camera .... they all have their quirks and idiosyncracies) . It has been my "workhorse" for close to two years and it has never failed me. It has all the bells and whistles that I require and then some. Read the manual and know what the D-610 "can do" and "won't do", then got out and take pictures and enjoy! Most of the time I use it for macro photography using a AF-S Micro Nikkor 105mm f 2.8G ED VR. ...... one excellent combination !!

After many years of using 35-mm film SLR's, I bought a Nikon D40 and, later, a D3300. Some nice photos were taken with both of those DX cameras, but, as a dyed-in-the-wool 35-mm film camera person, I felt something was missing. The full-frame D610 has largely brought back a familiar 35-mm look to my photos. I really like this camera. I feel more like I am shooting with a 35-mm camera on steroids. (I occasionally still shoot film for old times' sake.) The camera feels good in my hands, and the photo quality is top-notch. Even though I considered a more expensive Nikon, I am very happy with the D610. For my purposes, the D610 is a great fit. I have included photos shot with the D610 using a Nikkor 50-mm f/1.8D prime lens. The photos of insects were cropped from NEF/RAW files in DxO OpticsPro10 software. The photo of the church is a jpeg image straight from the D610 with no additional processing or cropping.

I have a trip to YNP coming up. I am not comfortable manipulating a flash and capturing the ambience, and I'm starting to get into astrophotograpy. I wanted decreased noise with higher ISO, full frame capabilities, and overall better image quality. I got it with the D610. Slight learning curve figuring out the controls which are a little different that my D5100, but it feels familiar. I found my way easily enough. If I didn't have a special trip coming up I probably would have waited to splurge and continue to hone my skills on the D5100. But... I am so happy with the D610. I. Like. This. Camera. I was surprised at the weight of the FX -- it is solid. I saved my D5100 for my daughter/backup and got it out the other day and it feels like a toy. My arms got tired with the 300mm zoom lens when holding it up to record a video :-D I think I will have this body for a LONG time. I will invest in lenses.

I have owned this camera for just over 6 months. Fantastic image quality, features, build quality, weather sealing, ease of use, low light capabilities, auto focus, metering, etc, etc... I do get dust, or oil, or whatever it might be on my sensor, and its not because "Dust spots occur normally with DSLRs because the interior of the camera body and the rear of the lens are exposed to the environment when you change lenses." I bought this camera body and a lens at the same time, both brand new. I didn't use anything besides this one lens..never detached...3 months later spots on my sensor(quite badly also). I carefully cleaned my sensor, which did get 99% of the spots. After 3 swabs. 2 months later, the same exact thing. Cleaned again...2 weeks later the same. Seriously disappointed with this problem, and also Nikon's failure to recognize this as a similar problem to that of the D600.

    Reoccurring Oil Spotting

I got the D610 as a replacement for the D600. The D600 was a great camera, with exception of the Sensor Oil Spotting Issue, which Nikon never formally acknowledged. Truly looking forward to having that issue resolved with the D610, since I really liked the D600 in all other ways, I took it on my next trip, which happened to be the Arctic region; so no small trip. Yet again, pictures were affected by the oil spots, and on a subsequent Photography workshop, the spots got really bad. Not a great representation for Nikon in front of 11 very accomplished photographers. Am I going to receive the same poor service from Nikon on the D610 as I received on the D600? Is this the end of Nikon as a reliable brand? I hope not; it's been the only brand of digital cameras that I have worked with. As for the D600 and the D610: I personally would caution against purchasing either.

I've made the switch to Nikon form Pentax after 14 years, but I'm glad I did. I will make this short and sweet. Pros: >High ISO performance--both stills and video. >Pretty good auto focus, but not as good as the D4 or D800. >Amazing IQ for such a low price, especially with High ISO performance. >Small, yet very powerful--TRULY a good balance of performance for it's size & weight. >No oil-spotting on the sensor like the D600. >Best thing about this camera is that no other camera out there can come close to it for value. Cons: >Lacking the higher performance autofocus that's in the D4, D800, D800E, and even the D7100--that's kind of a surprise. >The D7100 has this camera beat on several features, including the build, but not my much and certainly by no means Hi ISO performance and IQ once the sunshine disappears. >No decent GPS unit for this camera, something that has it's own battery supply and doesn't need a cord to tether it into the camera. >No aperture control in video mode, but it's not too big of a deal. >No PC Sync socket. >Not a top-of the line build, but good enough for the price, but once again--THINK VALUE(.)

I had D300 for five years, just bought D610 this month. Image quality appear to be twice better than D300. I'm happy to move to FX. I just wish it has built-in WIFI. Maybe at this point Nikon cares more about image quality than WIFI. The WU-1B device does not connect to PC using a router, only mobile devices. I bought Nikon 1.8 and 2.8 lens. Aperture mode doesn't appear consistent in exposure level from wide opening to smaller apertures. The image taken at wide open appears to be always slightly darker than the rest. It's only slightly but no big deal. It can be fixable by adjusting shutter speed or ISO. I tested aperture mode range using D300 and D7100 and it appears to produce the same results so I would guess it's the general Nikon camera itself. Nikon probably thinks it's no big deal fixing this little problem that no one has complained about or notice. In White Balance, it has incandescent and no tungsten like Canon camera has. It appears slightly yellow, not white enough, but will try to test it some more. I would recommend the camera for excellent image quality but warn it has no built-in WIFI. Not many people are happy with WU-1B.
