I am in love with this camera. It suits many of my everyday recreational needs and most professional needs. I have had it for quite a while and put some decent mileage on it and have been very happy with it's performance. I have not had one problem with losing photos (probably because my cards get formatted to the particular camera they are being used in at that time). The focus is spot on with all of the lenses I use with this camera. The controls are very easy to access. Picture quality is incredible. I have used this camera to shoot some paid gigs. This camera is incredible and is definitely worth buying no matter who you are. It will can handle just about anything you can throw at it, producing great shots and being very durable. Most of my shoots are deep in the wilderness accessible only by technical biking or hiking and it has seen a lot and is still kicking. It is a wonderful camera and is a great step toward a FX body while you are still trying to buy the pro level lenses.

This camera is best described as a FX with a DX sensor. This is my backup camera but when I am out taking pictures of wildlife I tend to set down my full frame and pick this up instead for the extras. In nature I usually use my 80-400 fx lens on the d7100 it is 1.5 x the mm giving me an extra 200mm and if that is not enough I can use crop mode dropping to 15Mp but increasing my reach an additional X 1.3. Over all this is an awesome buy not only for the money for what you get. The built in focus motor allows me to interchange any of my lenses and this camera produces professional photos that are sharp. Best of all I have had no troubles in extreme cold temperatures. The only con I have found is in the focusing system I have focused on eyes and had the nose chest or chin instead I have been using the center focus point and recomposing to fix this but will try to calibrate or fine tune when I have time maybe that will clear it up if that does not work it may as well only have one focus point.

Resolution and lack of sensor filter renders outstanding sharpness and beautiful images even at very high ISO. Although some 3rd party testers rate the Hi ISO performance of the sensor at well below the FX Nikon's In practice I have pushed the camera hard in low light sports photography and notice little difference at 6400 between it and my D700. The Expeed 3 engine is so good I am shooting a lot less in raw and a lot more in JPEG with good white balance and low noise making post processing less time consuming. Though I have over 50 years of experience I tried the "scene" profiles and actually use some on a regular basis. Build quality is rugged. For those migrating who have complained about sharpness remember that this camera has the lens focus tuning feature. Try calibrating your lenses as I haveand you will see a difference. The 51 point system seems improved over the D300 and D700. Great value. Nothing in DX beats this camera and it has scared the competition greatly!

This is a fabulous camera. I'm very versatile and do a lot of different things. So far, I have nothing bad to say about this camera. I picked this body for a variety of reasons, the 51 point autofocus, the high iso range, and the resolution. Among other things I photograph a lot of bands and wanted something that was very fast. My current budget allowed me to acquire a 28-75 lens and a nikkor 50mm "g" 1.8. My expectations have been exceeded at every point. I've always wanted to shoot ambient for bands, but my previous body didn't go above 1600 and was very noisy. Now I'm getting crisp images at 4000 and above, up to 12,800 so far. The resolution makes the noise much more like film grain and the images are crisp and clear. I haven't done a portrait session yet, but I'm confident I will be as equally happy. So it's not full frame, so what? i think I can adjust for focal length. I think this is a better body than the 5D mark II. I love this camera. Thank you Nikon.

The Nikon D7100 is my first DSLR camera. My initial plan was to go with the Nikon D3200 - but everyone I spoke with (shooting with one) tried to sell me their setups, eager to upgrade to the 7100. I wanted a camera that I could grow into-- and I am confident I picked the right one! There is definitely a learning curve coming from a point-and-shoot, some of the controls are unintuitive/ very hidden. That being said- I never sat down with my manual, I just jumped right in and started playing around. Overall, I am so glad I chose this camera as my entry into the photography world. It has been a pleasure learning on. I am happy with the pictures I am taking- they just keep getting better and better. I love this camera and I know I am going to continue to love it for years to come. Still much to learn, but I feel like I am off to a great start, and excited to see what else I can do with it! I would definitely recommend the Nikon D7100 to others just starting off with photography (currently trying to talk my dad into buying one).

Very accurate focusing and tack sharp pictures. One word about the buffer. I know many people compare the D7100 buffer to the D300s and other cameras and then they make comments about the buffer size. The D300s has a 12.3-megapixel sensor and the D7100 has a 24 megapixel sensor, so of course they can not have the same buffer speed/size with current sensor technology. The D7100 has twice as big a sensor as the D300s so the solution to this is to use your D7100 in crop mode ( around 15mp ) to be able to have a bigger buffer size/speed. What I do is just to turn the crop mode on in my D7100 and then my buffer becomes much better and still my images are 15 megapixel which is still higher than the D300s 12.3 megapixel. So basically you can adjust the settings in your D7100 in order to increase the buffer. And if the buffer becomes full you can still continue shooting at a decent speed around 2-3 fps / second because the writing speed is quite fast.

I have been shooting with the D5100 for about 4 years now. I go to school for photography and have been wanting to upgrade to a better camera. I was going to go with the D600 at first but only have one lens that is full frame, so it didn't make sense at the time. I'm glad I waited for the D7100 to come out. I do more sports and portraits and the 51 focus points stood out for sports for me. I just shot a wedding over the weekend with the D7100 and it performed beautifully, was inside for the reception with some of the worst lighting possible, but even at ISO 6400 this camera could take it. I'm happy with how the images have turned out. Battery also lasted me through 7 hours of shooting with about 700 images on that camera. Also if anyone is worried about moire, I would stop worrying. That was one thing I was afraid about but it won't happen, unless your photographing some seriously crazy details that are bright and shiny.

Bought the D7100 about 2 months ago, I upgraded it from the D7000. From day one I had back focusing issues with my old D7000 and while in time Nikon service and Fine Tuning helped a lot it never fully resolved my problems. So when I gave up on the D7000 I upgraded to the D7100 and MAN what a HUGE change. All my pictures are sharp, sharp, sharp!!! Low light performance is about same as the D7000 which means for a crop sensor camera its great. Up to 3200 ISO I am using it with no problems. I read some people complaining the buffer is too small for burst mode. Well For me I don't need more then that and if you really want more then simply put it on 1.3 crop mode and JPEG Fine and you get up to 22 frames till the buffer (I tested it myself). Dynamic range on this camera is amazing, simply amazing. To sum it up I think for its price this camera is a marvel, will do all you need and leave you happy with gorgeous pictures.

This was my first dslr. I have had it for about 18 months. When it works it takes amazing pictures but it rarely works. Owning this camera has been a very frustrating experience and it makes me sad because I really enjoy photography and was hoping that the new camera would be a big step forward. The problem is that the sensor always seems to be dirty. I rarely change lenses so I don't understand where the dirt comes from. I have had 1000s of pictures ruined. The camera is now at Nikon for the third time. The first two times they would not tell me what was wrong with the camera but it came back repaired free of charge - they even paid shipping both ways the second time. Now it is there for a third time but the warranty is now expired. It seems to me that there is something defective with the camera. Which is Ok these things happen – most people seem to not be having problems. I wish Nikon would just admit it and replace the camera. Then I can write a nice review and we can all be happy. I will try and update this when I hear back from the Nikon repair shop.
