Not bad for the price
How to get it working
Power up will demand the Activation Code from your receipt then start the NextBook Setup Wizard. After setup script, bring up Settings / Apps and disable the obvious bloatware such as Demo Setting. Verify the WiFi connection and set up your Google account. Launch Play Store. Search for Google Play Services and update (or search for Vudu app and update; running Vudu will eventually complain you need to update Google Play Services - do so). Then update each app in turn by searching for it in the Play Store and tapping Update (except bloatware you already disabled in the Settings / Apps list). Power off. Insert new Class 10 microSD card and power on. Format it as Internal storage. Reboot every time you plug in to charge and close dormant apps hourly due to inadequate RAM. Pluses include support for USB Host mode and HDMI out with optional cable.
Unfortunately Vudu has stopped
..And the pre-installed Nextbook FAQ and Nextbook Guide apps just launch web pages yielding Error 404 Not Found alerts. Got this as a "door prize" from my company. For the first day it was great and very responsive... now, a week later... wondering if I'm liked at work. This tablet is very unresponsive and locks up frequently. I have a couple of Fires that I love and are priced less than this paperweight, but I wanted a pure Android... I'm still waiting on it. I will NOT recommend this to anyone, and have steered people away from it. LOL, was actually at Wal-Mart with someone wanting to purchase this and steered them away with my "horror" stories about the Nextbook Ares 8.
My son received this as a gift for Christmas. First reaction is that it feels cheap and light. Not a super big deal as he is 10. However, upon turning it on, it just seemed less than mediocre. My son rarely used the thing. He was going to add a game to it one day and realized the darn thing stopped working, literally out of nowhere and after us barely using it (maybe 5 or less times). I tried to charge it and nada! It could be the battery, but that's disappointing that it didn't even last a year. It's utter garbage and I would recommend just saving your money until you can afford a better one.
Couldn't get it to work right. Then it was to late to take it back.
You get what you pay for
performance is slow, locks up. Lot of messages stating Unfortunately (Program name) has stopped, usually for background programs I wasn't aware was even running. Scrolling is slow and frequently locks up in Chrome browser. Can actually take more than a minute for something to load such as Kindle. I am sorry I bought this miserable piece of electronics. Save your money for something better. I would NOT recommend this to anyone. I put in a ticket with Nextbook about the problems 2 days ago but no reply yet.
Sorry I didn't listen to the reviews!
I only wanted a basic tablet for my mother to play games on. I have a Nextbook that I bought a year ago, which is seriously great. Videos, apps, all work perfectly. Love it. No issues. So, I gave this tablet a try, even though I always thoroughly research electronics, and read reviews. Big, big NO. It comes with 16g memory, which is taken up 75 percent with preloaded bloatwear, most of which can only be disabled, not uninstalled. When I got it home, I downloaded 2 game apps. I couldn't exit out of either one! Tapping the sides, trying to bring up the home 'circle', didn't work. I had to do a hard reboot both times to get out of the apps, and then I uninstalled both. It's just not worth the effort! This is going back.
No No & ABSOLUTELY NOT!
I haven't had this tablet for 2 hours and it is going back tonight. Booted it up and everything was ok for maybe 15 minutes after setup then it got very warm and VERY slow. The tablet dimmed due to the heat shortly thereafter. It is already freezing and locking up. Will not be keeping it as my phone does better than the tablet does.
Do not buy this tablet!!!
Do not buy this tablet! I bought it for my four year old and it freezes up on every game she tries to open. I bought it about a month ago and cannot return it because it's been over 15 days!!!!! The worst tablet I have ever had.
