Grandma is back in the GAME
I got this for myself to share with my 8 year old grandson. I'm 60 years old. WE LOVE IT! It was easy for me to set it up and for him to play it, when I let him have his turn LOL.

Frustrating Xmas gift
Bought one for christmas and had to exchange it the day after as it would get stuck selecting options we were not controlling it to. The exchanged one did the same thing after a day. Called Nintendo and they stated they were unaware of any known issues. Have to find an alternative now for my child for a defective Xmas gift.

Amazing

Very excited when I have it on my hand, Is much pretty than I thought.

fun fun fun

I get to play without having my kids telling me how to play it!! I wish there were more games available. Doesn't it seem like you buy something only to have it a year later improved to something else. It is compatible with most DS games.

Great system!

I am a pc gamer and bought a new 3DS several months ago. I returned it within 24 hrs since I was shocked about the graphics and less than premium feel (bulkiness). I liked the idea of having a portable to play long games so I gave the 2DS XL a try. It is much lighter and thinner and the black color is a definite plus. I would totally recommend the system. The only downside is the speakers face down so they can be muffled if you dont use headphones or hold the system away from your body. Plus Nintendo has put out a lot of $20 games which makes it more appealing.

I'm glad I upgraded

I was pretty happy with my basic 3DS, you know, the one that came out in 2011. When I heard of the New 3DS XL I didn't really want to pay $200 and I didn't really feel like I needed the upgrade. However, when I saw an ad for the New 2DS XL, I just expected it to be another doorstop. But when I saw that not only did it fold, but it was $50 cheaper than the New 3DS XL, I had begun to consider that upgrade. I am so glad that I did, the screen is much larger and runs more demanding games so much more quickly. Also being able to use amiibos without an accessory is great as well. Also, I now can play games that are only playable on the upgraded system. Another great feature is the little flap that covers the cartridge area. Sometimes when I put my older 3DS in my purse, the cartridge would get bumped and ejected, but that isn't a concern anymore. I do have to keep reminding myself that the home, start, and select buttons aren't on the bottom middle of the system, but on the left and right instead. Also, I wish that the power button was on the inside of the system, so there would be no risk of it getting bumped and the system turning off. But overall, I'm very glad about my purchase. I appreciate that they provided an option for those who still wanted a folding system, but didn't really use the 3D feature. If you are thinking about getting a New 2DS XL, I really think you should.

Good budget option for playing 3DS titles

I've been waiting a month or so for this product to release to replace my now broken New 3DS XL which was damaged. So far in my week's worth of usage it works nicely, I didn't want to downgrade back to the original 3DS that I had as I have a couple of titles that require the newer hardware available in the 'new' 3DS models so this fit the bill. Pros: It includes the added power of the new 3DS systems. It is a cheaper option to buy new than a new 3DS XL Lightweight, but not too cheap feeling in the body itself No longer need a screwdriver to access the MicroSD card slot! The left and right bumpers and their triggers are a bit easier to reach Volume slider is solid and doesn't change position very easily despite its position in the palm during play. Cons: The screen might be a little too thin, it feels flimsy but has held up so far The top screen has some backlight bleed into the casing surrounding it that is visible in lower light situations. While the speakers are in a position where they are not normally covered when I am playing, the downward firing configuration is far quieter than my new 3DS XL's screen mounted speakers. Stylus is far too short. It is not terribly uncomfortable to use, but I find myself needing a larger stylus such as the original 3DS's extendable one to get the job done. I know I've got a long list of cons for the console, but it is pleasant to use and a very suitable replacement if you don't want to pay for a brand new 'new' 3DS XL.

Good system fun with minor flaws

I pre ordered my unit before launch day of July 25, 2017, and was really excited to get my unit as I've been a big DS/2DS fan for a number of years, but after having my launch unit, and transfering my data over from my original Red/Black 2DS I as well as a small number of others with launch units encountered what's known as the sleep function bug, causing the system to only show the power light, but not waking up, so I contacted Nintendo, and they sent me a shipping box, and they had me RMA my unit to their New York repair center, and they had to do a reset on my system causing me to lose 90+% of my transfered data which included streetpass data of over 300 Mii's, game saves, etc.. but after getting over that loss, and looking at it as a fresh start I've loved my system ever since playing games like Miitopia, Mario Kart 7(much better on larger screens, and same with most games)80's Overdrive(eshop only kind of like outrun, and the music shines on a headphone amp, or home theater system), etc.. but the NEW 2DS XL is not without its flaws such as the seriously low sound quality on both the internal speakers, and headphone output(I use the Boom Cloud 360 portable headphone amp to get around it, along with a pair of JLAB JBuds Pro earphones as they are easy to drive with this amp combo), the small stylus(you will want to source extras both original, and retractable), and at least with my hands the unit digs into the meat between the thumbs, and palms of my hands, making it hard to play for long periods, but a 2DS XL controller grip has been a lifesaver, and I pack it in my daily backpack whenever I take my 2DS with me on the go. Also a 3DS to USB cable is really nice thing to source as well since they are cheaper then an official car charger, and you can charge with any decent USB battery bank, or usb charger you have with at least a 1 amp 5 Volt output. lastly I would suggest picking up a 16GB Micro SD card to replace the stock 4GB for game saves, and what not. Also please have a look at a photo of my current NEW 2DS XL setup so you can get an idea of what to look for to kit your system out as well. Have fun gaming, no matter your age of 6 - 106. :-)

Great playing, cheapish build

Pros: Setup was simple, and it gives great yet brief tutorials so it doesn't waste time. The controls are great, I saw where others were complaining about the speakers, and yes they are on bottom, but the volume goes more than high enough that hearing it is not an issue. It has the C control stick thing everyone is raving about, and for those of y'all who don't know, it is like the button on laptop keyboards which can control your mouse pointer by pressing on it with different pressures to the side. The colors are pretty cool, I wouldn't be embarrassed to carry it around (not like the raspberry color 3DS XL which is embarrassing for both genders) and the battery seems reasonable. It does come with an AC charger. It doesn't have a problem with DS or 3DS gamecards, you can insert either one without special adapters, just remember to insert the gamecard UPSIDE DOWN since the receiver seems to be flipped. Cons: However, the build of it feels fragile, and nothing like the old DSi lite I used to play on. That seemed like it could withstand a hammer blow. This one, the plastic seems *decent* but the flip (top) screen does slide left to right on the hinges. I'm not sure if that will be an issue, it only seems to be noticeable when the screen is opened more than 90 degrees. The other thing is that it is hard to get into the gamecard slot because of the cover thing. You need a longer fingernail or some working to open it, then I'm afraid I'll crack the plastic by pulling on it, so I reach under and push it out because the cover is hard plastic but is connected so it doesn't fall off by rubber which is easily bendable. The slot is inset so you do need to pull the cover out all the way and hold it down to get inside, and when you insert a card in there is a slight crunch sound that i'm assuming is the metal parts making contact with the gamecard. It almost sounds like sandpaper, but none of my cards have been even slightly scratched yet. Also, the stylus is rather small, but it just barely fits in my hand without falling thru my usual grip. I'm going to get a bigger one to keep in a case. Overall, a great product, I'm getting a case today just to be safe and so I don't have to keep track of the 1" x 1" little gamecards that are so easy to lose. I can see why it's so cheap, if you take care of it (and even with a few rough times) it should last a long while. It has more than enough processing power I have no lag playing games and it's very intuitive.

4.6/5 really!

Overall this system is wonderful! There is a great library of games to please nintendo fans and others nearby this demographic field. This medium size is perfect for a medium sized person like me compared to the bigger new 3ds xl and smaller 2ds. You have a way easier way to access the micro sd card. Despite it's great portability, and convenient controls it has some flaws to keep me from giving it a 5/5. The c-stick could be better(I modded it). The stylus is smaller. The speaker is slightly weaker. The top screen is a bit wobbly. The build is not very perfect with it's plastic shell. Nintendo has it's quality control flaws. There's either dust or a dead pixel in my screen. All this to me is worth the price.

I tested it out but haven't used it more than 1x

I only have tested it out once to make sure it works. My son is getting this for an upcoming birthday but it looks fine, functions fine so far (I tested out the Minecraft game I bought used on another site, the Minecraft game only works on the NEW 2ds/3ds. My son had the old 2ds but wanted Minecraft).
