  • A. Yes it is. I use it for mine. However there is a catch. If you live in an apartment like I do, you may get free wifi service from your property management company for residents living in the complex. If this is so the manager changes the security key every month. Therefore you need to reset the device every month so it will work with the new key.

  • A. It is only as fast as the original single coming from your router. Example, you get 1 bar from your router, netgear shows 5 and 54 mbps however at some point it will drop to 36 or 25 shortly after. Additionally sometimes it takes a few seconds to load your pages due to a weaker than normal single from the router that is has to carry to your pc. Now if you have 3 bars or more from your home router you get much faster with the up pick from the netgear booster.

I wanted to improve the wifi coverage into a few black areas of our house. I purchased the Booster from Wal-Mart at a better price than Amazon which was a plus. It arrived at my local store pretty quickly and no shipping to pay, another plus. On the negative side was the set up! The instructions need a magnifying glass to read and I recommend you read them all the way through before installing. Having installed it in accordance with the instructions it asked for a username and password. I tried the ones we currently use without success. Right at the back of the tiny instruction booklet are the "default" username and password! Ah success I thought! No not success! I could not connect to our router so called Netgear tech support. A rather abrupt support person took me through the same set up I had just performed and finally told me my router need to be configured differently! Next call was to my service provider and a change to the security settings of the router. The Booster will not work with WPA and need WEP. Not really a problem for home use but a different kind of password required. At the end of about three hours I had the thing up and running! On the final plus side is it actually works really well! So if you can handle all that and you read the fine print first you might get it up and running faster than me.

I was pretty sure that I needed a wi-if signal booster but I didn't want to pay an arm and a leg for something that might not actually improve my signal throughout my house. Having had previous favorable experience with Netgear products, I was pleased to note that Walmart had a basic signal booster available for approximately half the price of the same unit available from a very reliable nationwide electronics store chain. Knowing of Walmart's exceptionally reasonable returns policy, I figured that obtaining this unit from Walmart represented a much better buy. Having it shipped to me rather than having to drive to Walmart made even greater sense. When I received the unit--sooner than I had expected--I set it up following Netgear's easy-to-follow instructions and had a significantly stronger signal on all the devices receiving boosted signals through the product. Yes, it was clear that I needed the signal booster, and yes, the Netgear product is more than adequate for the task!

Ok so if you are living in an apartment or someplace with shared wifi signal and don't have access to the router, here is what you do to make it work. Go to the very last page in your instruction booklet on page 14. It tells you the Authentication Required Username and Password at the bottom under FAQ. You may need to enter it 3 or 4 times, don't know why but it asks you. Then you will find the netgear webpage. Follow the directions. It will show you a list of wireless networks pic which one applys to you by checking by it. Next it asks for Pass Phrase. This is the same as your wireless key you use with your router. And once it finds your wireless network using the key you are set.

I got this product with big doubts on my mind after reading a few not so good reviews on line, I bought it specially for brand new 55 inch smart TV in the living room, which had problems staying connected to the router about 50 feet away while streaming Netflix and Amazon Prime, it would almost always start buffering 10 minutes after starting any HD film and get stuck there, got my Netgear wifi booster, connected it using WPS, in less than five minutes it was up and running, it's been about a week, no problems, today I streamed Amazon Prime in my bedroom while my niece was streaming Netflix in the living room, both in HD. When you do connect it to the router and afterwards do a WIFI network search you will find a clone of your router with an _EXT at the end, it acts as a second router, make sure you choose it as your router for the devises closest to it. I didn't change any information, using the same network name and passphrase.

Got the product in the mail, hooked it up according to the instructions. my computer identified it but could never get to the setup page that's built into the extender. Tried the NETGEAR SUPPORT online (that was a waste of 2 1/2 hours). what a joke. I read all the customer support blogs on the site and found this is a problem for many, many, many people. It seems they have a hardware/software problem that NETGEAR IS NOT CONCERNED ABOUT.. THEY LOCK UP, DONT WORK. SAVE YOUR MONEY FOR A PRODUCT THAT THE COMPANY STANDS BEHIND.. As for me.. JUST SAY NO!

After evaluating my options to extend the range in my two story house I finally came upon this product. I use netgear products alot so I figured Id give it a try since it was only $30. Other options I had found were over $70+ Setup couldn't be easier!!!!!! As others have side make sure you go Option 2. All I did was plug the device in the wall and then I picked up my iphone and tried to connect to the signal the device was broadcasting. The netgear program popped right up and asked if I wanted help setting up. Why yes I would thank you:) Asked me to pick out my network out of all the ones it found in my neighborhood. then it asked me for my password for my network. It suggests you use a different SSID then what you already have but dont fall for that!! Just rename to what you already got and presto you are done. I now have a strong signal downstairs as well as upstairs. Literally took less then 5 minutes to set up. May have helped I was using a netgear router as well. who knows:) The instructions are a bit vague is why I didn't give it 5 stars.

Unit will not stay connected once you shut down your computer and restart it you have to reset booster to factory spec's and start all over again to program booster to computer.Tried there support and if you can understand them you probably will still end up no fix to your problem.Going to ship unit back.
