Really nice NET10 flip phone. Big Buttons for big fingers like mine. Easy to set up & use. I bought this as a replacement for my original NET10 phone. Not one single dropped call yet. Holds its charge for about 2 weeks.

I did not want a smart phone nor did I want a lot of bells and whistles. I DID want a phone with Bluetooth so that I could use the phone hands-free in the car. The features of the Motorola W409G are exactly what I was looking for, though I don't have use for the camera. The voice quality and range of service areas meet my needs.

PROS: * Decent reception and call clarity. I get 2 bars inside the house, even in my small town. I was expecting better, but I don't think these budget motorolas have the antenna size that made the RAZR popular. * Buying extra Net10 minutes over a computer's internet connection is easy and they show up instantly. * Flip-phone means no accidental pocket or "butt" dialing. Flip it open and you're talking - no locking. * Pretty loud speaker-phone. * Ultra small and light. One of the smaller phones available...if you're into that. * 2 megapixel camera and video recorder. I think you can only send smaller pics (VGA/640 x 480 or less) to friends phones, but you can "drag & drop" larger pics, music, videos, etc to and from your computer via a microUSB cable (just like a flash drive). Accepts up to a 32 megabyte microSD card for extra storage. * MP3 player and FM radio. The headphone jack is music standard 3.5 mm size, so you don't need an adapter. You can record songs off radio in HQ WAV (maybe even phone convos - haven't tried it, yet). Only negative is the volume is in set levels (no nudging), even the lowest of which is a little too loud for me. It's also got a handy voice recorder for taking "notes". CONS: * USB/charging port has no dust cover...lint city. * Navigation ring is ultra thin and not very tall. If your nails are short, you might not be able to press it without pressing everything else around it. * No querty keyboard. Entering data takes forever. There's different text entry modes to remember and, depending where you are in the menus, Net10's operating system also has different drop down menus requiring you to enter text several different ways...I forget them. * Menus are a mess and the online manual is pathetically short (basically useless). Try figuring out how to use the calculator on this thing. The few "help" options on the menus do absolutely nothing. * "Games and Apps" button. The included 2 games are horribly dumb (even for a kindergartener) and you can't download any others. There are no "Apps"...period. Unlike many other phones on this level, the w409g doesn't have Java or Brew or any other platform for downloading and running apps and games. * No built in email client. You can't email phone pics to yourself...and even if you access your standard email over the browser, there is no "attach" option. * Mobile web is ridiculous. It's only 2G and navigating and entering data is laborious and time/minutes consuming. If this is your first cell phone (like me), you'll need at least 300 minutes just to start figuring out its quirks and bookmarking your favorite mobile web sites (that will actually display on this phone). Be prepared to get plenty of "insufficient memory" warnings and automatic deletes of too large photos sent by friends with more powerful phones. Don't love this phone - probably returning it to see if the grass is greener on the other side. For a first timer on any pre-paid phone, I recommend buying the $50 Unlimited card for the first month and then you can drop down to the cheapy cards/minutes when you get the important stuff figured out.

I purchased this phone at my local Walmart to replace my previous Net10 phone, which decided to not receive or send calls about a week ago though it would still send and receive text messages. I'm a limited Cell phone user, I use it to make calls. If I want to send texts I use a device with a keyboard. If I want to browse the internet I use a device with a much bigger screen. What I like about this phone. Phone reception is excellent. Closed the phone is very compact. The external display while a bit dim displays the phone number, or contact name if you've entered it of an incoming call. Once open the the phone is of a reasonable size to hold easily to the ear while talking. The keys are large and legible. Even though I expect make little use of the feature for texting, alpha numeric text entry isn't that horrible once you get the hang of it. Neutral features, the screen is small and the fonts are clunky looking, but I didn't buy the phone to look at pictures or calligraphy. The phone has a built in camera but the output is lousy, then again who would expect a $30 camera let alone a $30 phone, to give particularly good results, heck it's got a camera, which also records lousy movies as well. It's got a mp3 player and an FM radio built in, but you need an accessory wired earpiece that appears to be made out of unobtanium to to use either feature so they might be good or might not, also to transfer mp3 files you need a data cable that seems to require a special mini USB connector, I have a number of such cables but none I have are a match. It has some awful games, Meh. The calculator adds subtracts multiplies and divides. It's got a sound recorder I haven't felt inclined to try. It has a calendar app that might be interesting. A task app that seems to duplicate some of the calendar functionality, but I haven't played with either enough to know for sure, and finally you can set 6 different alarms. What I don't like about this phone. My previous phone was highly customizable compared to this one. The home screen could have all of it's soft keys reprogrammed with most any important task you might want from the phone's menu, this one, not at all. In addition to the useful quick access to the phones Main Menu, Messages, Contacts, and Ringer Control, (called for some obscure reason User Profile), you get instant access to the currently useless MP3 player and most aggravating in the place where the back command is usually found on the sub menus, the Browser! So far I've owned this phone for less than three days and activated the Browser without trying at least half a dozen times. I'd love to replace it with something I might use more of the time. Something such as the Calendar if it proves useful, or something else, anything else. The ring tones are really insipid, so awful in fact that I went to Net10's web site to pay for replacements, but nothing there really that made me want to pay out any hard earned money, in other words no improvement. That's another thing. The previous phone allowed a great deal of customization of sounds, all polyphonic, but you could still change the default sounds for various events, such as voice mail, email, alarms, as well as the ringer for incoming calls, this phone give ability to set two sounds Ringer, Alarm, and nothing else really. So bottom line is it worth the $30? Yes, does it have a number of annoyances? Yes. If you're not looking for a pocket computer or music player that makes phone calls, and you can put up with the ringtones and learn to avoid the accidentally activating the browser it's as good as a thirty dollar phone could be.
