Presto Perfection
Wonderful pressure cooker - cooked a whole pot of kale and spinach in 1 minute! Time saver and a lovely additional cooking pot! Would buy again! Bought this to replace my mom's old ss pressure cooker (over 40 years old) because all the handles simply dry rotted - would have cost $30 to replace including shipping, so I decided to treat myself for Mother's Day!

Poor quality and a waste of money!
Being from India and a vegetarian, having a pressure cooker is a must in every Indian home because we eat a lot of lentils and beans for which a pressure cooker is really necessary for our daily cooking. I have used pressure cookers all my life. Pressure cookers are supposed to last a long time- many years actually. I got this Presto 6 quart in June 2019 and it is already unusable. When it arrived, the handle had to be assembled which didn't seem a big deal except it never attached properly and needed to be tightened constantly. Anyway just in a few months, its valve came off at some point and the steel quality is so poor that food keeps sticking to the base and burning. The aluminum cooker that I had before this and gave away, unfortunately, thinking that cooking in a steel cooker would be healthier, was very strong and was going strong for years. Total waste of money. I have to start my search again for a better quality product. Do not recommend this product at all!

Perfect in every way!

I have had my Presto Pressure Cooker for about 3 years now, and it's as nice as the day I purchased it. I use it EVERY DAY, if I'm not cooking with it, it's on the stove with boiling water in it for many uses. I cook for a large family, and also do a lot of canning, so I need a lot of water on hand, and you couldn't ask for a nicer pot for water, but also for making the best meals you ever tasted. I cook a lot of food, and this has become my favorite pot, of all the ones I own. It has LITERLY been on my stovetop for 3 years, never off, and it works wonderful. You won't go wrong with this pot. Your food will taste better than you ever thought possible, with this Pressure Cooker. You will love it, and the stainless steel is just wonderful and stays clean and beautiful. I'm back for another pot because my garden will be bigger this year, and I need more water for the canning and this is the best for that job. Give it a try, you won't regret it.

easy to use , nice kitchen appeal

this is the same great easy to use quality I remember from childhood . I grew up using a presto cooker ( I am 53 years young ) . The Presto Cooker is not complicated , super fast and very pretty to look at . I love stainless and would always choose it over aluminum. . My first cook with this was cooking dryed garbanzo beans ...Always presoak your dried beans per instructions as you would if you were cooking on stovetop. Once the cooker started my garbanzos was ready 12 minutes after the jiggling started . The jiggling for inexperienced users is the pressure valve at the top of the cooker . It indicates that your cooker has reach the proper temperature point and is now ready. * Just carefully read the instructions if you are unfamiliar with pressurized cooking * My garbanzo's came out much more tender than canned and I made delicious spinach garlic hummus from it . I will give this product 5 stars and plan to buy a large presto stainless canner this summer . Bon Appetit !

Great pressure cooker!

Years ago my Mom used a pressure cooker quite a bit, but it disappeared along the line somewhere, so after reading all the reviews and considered the slimness of my wallet I bought this one. It has proven to be JUST RIGHT! Our kids are all grown now, and I was afraid it might be too big for the two of us, but I find that anything smaller would not let me make the excellent stocks I like to freeze. A friend of mine once made chicken soup in her pressure cooker, adding two whole lemons to the pot with a whole chicken and various veggies and spices, and then forgot it was on the stove, cooked it over an HOUR. Wow! that was the best chicken soup I've ever tasted! It had cooked so long many of the bones were soft! The dog had a hayday with those bones, something we never give him normally. Anyway, it comes up to pressure very quickly, and everything works just right. I like the new safety features -- much less stressful for the cook!

Easy to use an lives up to expectations!

This is not only a great looking piece of cookware but functions perfectly. The chicken soup and other meat I have cooked have been tender and moist. The brown and wild rice have been the best I have ever cooked, though it seemed strange at first to have to cook it in a stainless steel bowl covered with foil inside the pressure cooker its a time saving simple no mess process with good results. I have the large Presto aluminum pressure cooker I use for canning meats etc.. but wanted a smaller one for cooking 2 to 4 serving portions. The 6-quart gives you the over head room you need to fit odd size pieces of meat and vegetables and the stainless steel wont react to the other acids and cooking liquids you may choose to use. Its like combining the speedy cooking of a microwave with slow cooking tenderness of a crockpot! Possibilities endless!

I know why they named it 'Presto' now!

This presto stainless steel pressure cooker cooks lentils in 10 minutes from dry at 5,200 ft. Cooks garbanzos super fast. I would not fill it past 1/2 way mark because bean skins can froth up and clog the stem that holds the rocking weight. I had an aluminum 'Denmark' brand 6 qt pressure cooker, and it worked pretty well, I thought. Essentially the same exact design, except the Denmark had an ingenious little upside down basket that fit under the top of the lid so the stem that holds the jiggling weight wouldn't get clogged up- Presto would be wise to copy that- however, the Presto cooks so much faster, it must get hotter, everything takes less time than the aluminum , and gets well cooked, and now I don't worry about ingesting aluminum. And I am impressed that now I can take a $1.08 bag of lentils, use 1/2 of the bag and make 2-3 quarts of lentil soup w a nice thick broth in 10 minutes that I can then dress w fresh pressed garlic, apple cider vinegar, olive oil, salt and pepper, then make a simple salad, and have a nice fresh, quick, super healthy, filling, satisfying, cheap as dirt dinner after work in less than 30 minutes- w at least 4 portions of soup leftover that will last in the fridge 4-6 days.

Great Deal Stainless Steel Presto Pressure Cooker

I saw this same identical 6qt pressure cooker priced else where for $99.00. I'd been keeping an eye open for a good price on a stainless steel pressure cooker. If you go with aluminum, it won't be as quality an item. The 6qt is the perfect size in my opinion for average size families. Very pleased with it and it also includes a booklet of instructions and some recipes. Very pleased with this item.

Good quality, yet not perfect

Materials are good quality and in my opinion the simple design is a plus as it tends to promote longevity. My one "qualm" is that the handles are connected by a single screw (rather than two). This makes them move a bit (especially when the cooker is full) even when the screws are well tightened. Over-tightening the screws may reduce that movement lead the handle to crack, thus impractical.

I ordered online motivated on price. When I received the product, I was disappointed the quality of the stainless steel was poor. I had always owned and used 6Qt stainless steel Presto pressure cooker, but this product had left a question about the quality now on. Though, I decided to keep, and proceed to assemble the handles. After many attempts, I was not able to put in a manner that the cooker could be closed. I returned the product. The stainless steel quality was inferior, and I would consider an alternate aluminum product that is less pricy.

1. Presto makes a steamer basket for this product but, no, it does not come with a steamer basket
by Doesmagic
2. Mine did not. It was a Presto 6 qt.
by An anonymous customer
3. No...but it does have a liner that raises food about 1/2" off of the bottom of the pot to keep it from burning.
by Ahimsa12
4. It did not come with one. Came with a bottom platform (aluminum) to keep food off the bottom so it won't burn. You can use a steamer basket you might have as long as it fits in it. Most are Stainless, which I like better than aluminum. I believe it's an option you can buy, however. check the web or the booklet it comes with.
by CiaoT
5. its a pressure cooker, not a steamer....................NO

1. Of course you can use this pressure cooker on an electric stove as well as a gas stove. You could even use a wood stove! If you use an electric stove you will want to take the pressure cooker off the heating source when the food is cooked.
by Doesmagic
2. I have used it on both gas and electric stoves. Works great on either one.
by PioneerValley
3. Both. It can be used on either electric or gas stove. I use mine on an electric stove. Yes it does cook things very quickly. It includes a small direction booklet with instructions and some recipes.
by mrblueu
4. It can be used on electric or gas ....just not on most flat top electric stoves. I use gas and it cooks amazingly fast. I primarily use it for cooking dried beans and it cuts the cooking time from 45-60 minutes to about 2 minutes (once the correct pressure has been achieved....which takes about 7 or 8 minutes).
by Ahimsa12
5. yes, gas or electric both work real good
by wmm036y
6. Yes we have an electric range and it works great. It took 50 minutes for a corned beef. It took 45 for a beef tongue. Cabbage took 4 minutes.
by bigvarmit
7. IF YOU GET THE SAME ONE THAT I GOT, IT CAN BE USED ON ANY SURFACE. I GOT MINE BECAUSE IT CAN BE USED ON AN INDUCTION COOKTOP. THAT IS THE MAGNETIC COOKING AND YOUR COOKWARE HAS TO BE ABLE TO HAVE A MAGNET STICK TO THE BOTTOM OF IT. IT IS INSTANT HEAT THOUGH. FAST COOKING !
by ChinaTaste
8. I use mine on an electric stove. If I had a gas stove it would work there, too. And, yes, the pressure is still be enough to cook things quickly. The little informational/operating/warranty book contains quite a number of recipes to get you started -- I've prepared several of them, and they are very good!
by SomebodysGrandma2
9. It doesn't matter electic gas wood, you just have to keep your pressure fairly constant once you reach your desired level. No matter what type of stove you have the cooking time will be the same.
by cgbenge
10. We use ours on an electric range and it works perfectly.
by crystalgrinder
11. You can use it on gas or electric stoves.

1. Yes! The inside of this pressure cooker is stainless steel. It is very easy to keep clean.

2. Yep! all stainless steel and as heavy as my 50 year old one. Well made in my opinion.

5. Yes
by aPNWshopper
6. yes, 100% stainless steel.
by SomebodysGrandma2
7. Yes it is.
by GreatUSA
8. yes.
by aarpcitizzen
9. The inside lining of the cooker is all stainless steel.
by GiantRotatingCarrot
10. Well, it's not shiny like the outside, but my understanding is the whole pot is stainless, yes.
by McSchmeezer
11. I am not sure. There are three very small gaskets on the inside of the lid, that release steam, and two of these release valves have a bit of copper or plastic, but this shouldn't touch food. Sometimes I look at the core of the cooker and wonder what the alloy percent is. It looks like the designer did think of these things though and it has enough stainless steel in the core to reassure me. I use it several times a day, with no worries.
