This bow compass appears to be well constructed of steel and aluminum parts. My only complaint is that the threaded rod used to adjust the diameter of radii is not aligned/installed properly and seems not quite straight. That being said, the unit is still quite acurate. You can draw circles or radii anywhere from 3/8â to 9-1/8â in diameter. Obviously, if this instrument is allowed to become dirty, is dropped, is stepped on, is run over by a moving vehicle, or is mistreated in any other similar fashion, the life expectancy will be considerably less than if the unit is well maintained. With proper care under normal usage conditions, this compass should function accurately for many years. I would not reccomend this unit be used by children under the age of 18 years as the needle point is extremely sharp, and inserting the needle point or pencil leads could be very challenging because of the need for fine-motor skills. Included in the package are: (1) all-metal constructed bow compass with a 15/16â-long non-removable* handle and a 1/2â diameter non-removable* adjustment wheel, (1) extremely sharp needle point, (4) pencil leads (one end is sharpened to a point), (2) spare adjusting nuts, (2) spare adjusting nut screws, (1) nice see-thru storage pouch with a pinch-type zipper closure and a sturdy tab for hanging on a wall. *Non-removable parts in these two positions are a good thing in my opinion; my 80-plus year old set of bow compasses that I inherited from my Granfather have removable handles, removable adjustment wheels, and removavle adjustment wheel screws - making them very easy to accidentally remove and misplace.
