I bought this bread machine for my birthday. I have been wanting one forever! I bought this one because it was the best value (considering included options and the overall cost). So far I have made the basic white bread (lovely), and the italian parmasean bread (yummy) with fantastic results and rave reviews from my family. The light wheat bread recipe from the book needed tweaked. I made it 3 times exactly as the recipe called thinking I did something wrong and each time the bread barely rose and was the texture of a brick. I search online and found some trouble shooting tips and made adjustments and the result was "the best wheat bread I have ever had" from my husband who is rather picky about breads... Here is the new recipe: 1.25 cup milk 2 tablespoon water 1.5 teaspoon salt (I used kosher) 3 tablespoon sugar 3 tablespoon vegetable oil 2.5 cups high gluten (bread) flour 1.5 cups 100% whole wheat flour 3 teaspoons of bread machine yeast Prepare on cycle 1 Use 2 pound loaf setting and light crust If I end up tweaking more recipes from the book I will be sure to come back and post a comment! This was the BEST gift I have ever gotten for myself! My favorite part is being able to feed my family wonderfully delicious breads without all the preservatives from store bought breads! I tagged some great ingredients to this review of the products I used when making this recipe!

French For light breads made from fine flour. Normally, the bread is fluffy and has a crispy crust. This is not a suitable setting for recipes requiring butter, margarine, or milk. Gluten-Free For gluten-free breads and mixes. Quick For quick-bread recipes that do not use yeast for rising and instead may use baking powder or soda. Kneading, rising, and baking loaf within a time less than for basic bread. Sweet For breads with additives such as fruit juices, grated coconut, raisins, dry fruits, chocolate, or added sugar. Due to a longer phase of rising, the bread will be light and airy. 1.5 lb. Express Kneading, rising, and baking a 1.5-lb. loaf occurs in 58 minutes using a quick-rising yeast. Loaf will be smaller and rougher than that made with the Basic cycle. 2.0 lb. Express Same as 1.5 lb. Express, but yields a 2-lb. loaf. Dough This cycle prepares the yeast dough for buns, pizza crust, etc., to be baked in a conventional oven. There is no baking in this cycle. Jam For making jams with fresh fruit. Cake Kneading, rising, and baking occurs, but with the aid of soda or baking powder. Whole Grain For breads with heavy varieties of flour that require a longer phase of kneading and rising (whole wheat flour, rye flour). Bread will be more compact and heavy. Bake When additional baking of breads is needed because a loaf is too light or not baked through. There is no kneading or resting.

Exchanging it. Hopefully the next is better
I must have gotten a defective product - the inside cabin is bent out of shape. Perhaps it will not affect its function, but it doesn't look good all beat up. Returning and buying a different one.

Great Machine for the Price!

I bought this bread machine ''On Sale''.. ($38.00) So far, I've made 2 loaves of bread... I'm IMPRESSED with this machine, it can do so much more than just bake bread .. I purchased bread machine flour & yeast with my order... So far, each LOAF has been FANTASTIC.... You can't beat the price, so don't let that scare you... It makes 1# 1.5# & 2# Loaves... Lots of choices, so easy to choose from the ''control panel'' ... Very easy to clean, comes with 2 ''paddles'' as well... I like the fact that the ''Container & Paddle'' are all inside, nothing to spill out into the interior of the bread maker, like my old ''BreadMan'' is... The Container & paddle are ''non-stick'' which makes the bread so much easier, it slides out nicely!! The bread comes out ''square'', I've added a photo of ''Herb Bread'' from a recipe on ''Allrecipes.com''.... Fantastic Flavor... try it too.... BUY IT, YOU CAN'T GO WRONG!!!

Awesome

Shipping: excellent - arrived NEXT day (delivered on a Saturday!!!!) Product: excellent - easy to use. Made low-carb bread the same day it arrived....served hot with butter & home-made chili! Clean-up: easy - popped the pan and paddle right into the dishwasher. When dry, just placed it back into the machine. Overall: excellent - the ONLY con I have with this item is its size. Make room for it because it's large and takes up a pretty big space on the counter. I plan to store it and only bring it out when I bake because it takes up quite a bit of space. I have always hesitated baking my own bread because of the yeast thing. But with this machine, I can bake fresh bread and serve hot. Nothing better. Thanks Wal-mart for a great value!

It is quite easy and delightful.

First time using a bread maker and it worked out perfectly. I did follow everyone's tips about keeping the crust on the lightest setting. Not sure how it will turn out on any darker settings. I just grabbed a recipe off the Internet, followed the bread makers instructions on which ingredients to put in first (there is a illustration in the manual), pushed a few buttons and 3 hours later......we have this!!!! Forgive the amateur photo and paper plate, this pic was originally for my mom. Lol.

Great machine! Makes gluten free very well!

Terrific bread machine with many settings and features allowing a wide range of different and complex recipes. Will be featured in my new book on Amazon.com "Gluten Free Recipes for Diabetics".

Happy

This was delivered early and in good shape. Have used it twice and it works great. Very good value.

A really good product

This product is pretty good! Easy to use , I can make a taste bread now and I love it so much!

Great breadmaker for the price.

I bought this breadmaker to replace an Oster that I have had and used constantly for several years. I chose this Hamilton Beach because I liked the look of it but mainly because it had excellent reviews. I was a little reluctant to buy Hamilton Beach as I consider them to be a producer of somewhat lower quality electrical products. In that respect I have been proved right as this machine is comparatively flimsy compared to the solid Oster. However, it has so far baked excellent bread and kneaded some great doughs. I mainly use a breadmaker for mixing dough and then shape the bread myself, doing the final rising and baking in a regular oven. While mixing it tends to be a little noisy and jiggles a bit on the counter but the results are excellent. At Walmart this was less money than I could get a replacement Oster and so I have decided to keep it for its versatility and very acceptable loaves, even when left in the machine to complete the entire process. Although I have not tried the feature yet, it does have a gluten-free cycle. I am disappointed with the instruction and recipe book which is made of very flimsy paper. Not the nice sturdy, glossy book that Oster supplies.

GF bread simplified

GF bread requires different timing to get a decent loaf that rises correctly. This machine for the price is doing it. I still think the one rising would be better, but I am getting great bread simplified.

Both good and bad results

1st (3 hour) white bread loaf was fine, so we next tried a (1 hour) express loaf and it turned out okay to. Next we did a Italian Parm and Onion loaf and they were okay just needed some extra seasoning next time. We then tried a cake but it fell apart when we tried to dump it out. Maybe we didn't let it cool long enough? Also the outside seemed too brown so we tried another cake with a different method. We mixed up the recipe like the box said and poured it in machine but chose the bake cycle (12) instead of cake cycle (10) and it turned out better plus saved 1hour and 50 minutes. Yes, a cake cycle is2 hours and 50 minutes! Might as well used our toaster oven. We checked it 1st before removing with a shish-k-bob stick to make sure a hour was enough baking time. We then made 2 Banana nut breads the same way only added a couple banana's and a half cup of chopped nuts to the recipe on the boxes and added about 10 more minutes to the bake cycle and they turned out fine. Nice and moist. Pound cake was a little thick but okay. Their corn bread recipe stuck to the sides and fell apart bad when we tried to get it out. Next time we will coat the sides with oil as the recipe doesn't call for any (a misprint?) and just use the bake cycle instead of the 40 minute longer cycle 4 it calls for. Though it was hard to find a store that carries the vital wheat gluten, we did manage to find some so we made the whole wheat next. It turned out thick and didn't seem to rise at all. Tried a second loaf, same results. Also the next white loafs did not raise but maybe half way. A heads up, when making a express loaf(1 hour) it will ask you to use warm water and instant yeast were the 3 hour bread recipe will tell you to use cold water and bread machine yeast. Also instructions will tell you not to pack the flour by scooping it which we were careful not to do. We carefully measured everything exactly. We don't know why some turned out fine and others didn't as we used the same fresh yeast. We haven't tried dough, jam, white wheat or french bread recipes that are in its manual yet.

1. Thank you for your question. Yes, you may use different types of flour depending on the bread recipe you are following.
by HBBrandsCustomerService
2. If the recipe calls for bread flour, you can either waste your time trying to find it, OR, assuming that you are gluten indifferent, use any flour at hand and for every cup of bread flour in the recipe, add ONE TABLESPOON of gluten. For example, if my recipe calls for 2-3/4 CUPS of bread flour, I will substitute that with the same amount of all-purpose flour AND 2-3/4 TABLESPOONS of gluten. In fact, I usually just round it up to the nearest Tbsp and make it 3 Tbsps. Going a little OTT with gluten will have no negative consequences for the outcome, unless the intended partaker(s) of the bread is/are gluten sensitive.
by Xanadou
3. yes, the booklet gives recipes for other flour, i'm trying almond flour next. good luck!
by GiftLadies
4. I have used all purpose, bread flour and whole wheat flour successfully.
by Dixieland
5. Bread flour is used to make bread. All purpose flour does not work well to make bread. Good bread requires bread flour. Any grocery store or discount warehouse carries it.
by SDRS
6. We use flour specifically for bread machines. We have also used boxed mixes for bread machines. Total success so far.
by designerdiana
7. Follow the recipes as closely as possible for best results especially if you are new to using a bread machine. Once you are have more experience and have learned what works and what doesn't you may want to experiment with your recipes. IF you are baking GLUTEN FREE bread or making GF doughs, you need to have a separate bread pan to use just for GF baking. I ordered this bread machine to be used for my GF baking only. I ordered a second bread machine to use for non GF items. That way I can bake two items at the same time.
by JayMar11
8. I grind my own wheat for flour, and this machine comes with two METAL dough paddles, not cheap plastic. As far as I'm concered if it can handle ground whole wheat it has the power to for any flour that I can think off. My old Welbult kept cracking the paddles because of the whole wheat, this one is really easy to understand, and has 12 settings even pizza dough!
by Scotties
9. Absolutely. Whatever your recipe calls for. However if it says specifically "bread flour" in the recipe, some peopel substitute but you lose the texture, denisty and volume. (Same goes for sifting - if it calls for sifting...SIFT. You WILL notice the difference all around.)
by THEORIGINALKLOW
10. Yes, but bread flour is the best.
by Kathy720
11. You can but it is recommended to use bread flour. If you use all purpose flour it would be suitable for "quick bread" or to use on a quick setting. Self raising flour is not suitable in combination with yeast, it really is only suitable for cake making. If you want to use whole wheat flour, the loaf might be smaller in size and heavier in texture as it is a heavier flour.
by doris11
12. I don't know how many types of flour there is but it comes with recipes for white, wheat, Canadian, and gluten free.
by SunnyinOrl
13. You CAN, but different kinds of flour have different qualities, different percentages of protein, etc., and that affects the texture and how much it rises. I found a couple of good "bread" books at our local library in the 641.815 shelf. Normally you should use "Bread Flour" for at least part of it.

1. It makes noise but the mixing isn't too loud. Our house is similar. The beeping to add ingredients is loud but that only lasts a few seconds. If I set it to make bread overnight, the beeping does wake me up since our bedroom is just down the hall. I think any would do that though. We love this bread machine!
by SDRS
2. What is noisy to one person, is quiet to another. Myself, I think the machine is very quiet. The beeps are louder than the kneading noise, but even those are not that loud! Enjoy!
by ArtistVicki
3. I didn't find it to be noisy accept when the signal went off. That was pretty loud but it only lasts a few seconds, It needs to be heard by anyone using the machine. Not everyone has good hearing.
by JayMar11
4. I would say it is at a 6 based on your scale. It is noisy but it isn't from the mechanics of the machine, it is the dough hitting the sides of the container (which I think helps mix all the ingredients and grabs the flour that normally would get stuck on the walls). It isn't constant either since it doesn't make noise when the dough rises. There is a delayed setting so you can have it work when you aren't home; or you could always put it in a garage or other room if it really bothered you since I don't find the machine gets hot and is very clean.
by YoungAndMarried
5. May be a 3.
by AUYU
6. Thank you for your question. The breadmaker can wobble and walk during kneading cycle. The noise level may be a 4 on that cycle.
by HBBrandsCustomerService
7. I don't know if you can put a number on it but it is softer than my dishwasher. I haven't used every cycle but the ones I have used were pretty quite.
by emdavis121405
8. OK - answering my own question. Since it was inexpensive and cheap to ship, I went ahead and bought it. 1 being OMG shut it off, it sounds like something's going to break and I cant hear the TV; and 10 being wait a sec, I thought I just turned that on... I will give it a 7. I would give the Toastmaster that I bought 15 years ago a 9 (it made a soft whirring sound) and the Panasonic SD-YD250 I bought 2 weeks ago a 1. Everything about the Panasonic made noise, the paddle, the pan, and the yeast dispenser.... like marbles in a dryer.
by Thamar
9. It is fairly quiet unless I am mixing a dense whole grain bread, then it squeaks a bit.
by abo7
10. It's not whisper quiet, but it is pretty quiet. It's a LOT quieter than any of my mixers, my blender, or my food processor. There is a point in the cycle, however, when it beeps loudly to signal that it's time to add any additional ingredients. It also beeps when it's finished. I too have mine due to soy allergies. I have 2 different bread machines. Both do the beeping, but when mixing, kneading, etc., they are pretty quiet.
by grass001hopper
11. I put this in my store so I could practice baking during the day. I needed to perfect recipes for the machine before gifting it. The noise is maybe a two when it mixes in the beginning. You have a short series of beeps when you can add raisens, nuts or seeds. I can not imagine someone would have a problem with this machine.
by Pretzel333
12. whisper quiet even on kneading. I forget it's on.
by pickanameanyname
13. It makes some noise but is much quieter than my All American bread machine that is 13 yrs. old.

1. Per the Hamilton Beach website, this model has a delay timer.
by DelawareDiva
2. Thank you for your question. This unit does have the delay timer feature to start the bread maker at a later time.
by HBBrandsCustomerService
3. Yes it does but unfortunately it has a very loud beeping alarm sound about 15 minutes after beginning of cycle and at end of cycle. It is so loud that the sound travels up the stairs into our bedroom and wakes us up TWICE! If there is a way to turn off alarm we can't find it.

4. yes, you can have it done baking up to 13 hours later... just push the + or - button on the front (top) panel.
by mommyof3dds
5. Yes it does
by skralph
6. It has a delayed start so you can have it start at a later time. If you want it ready at a certain time just add in the cook time, but don't forget the bread should cool for 30 minutes before you cut it.
by MommyHarwellx3
7. Yes. I have not used it but it does have one.
by Oldboss
8. Yes. You set the cycle you want first, then push the delay button, with the plus sign, ahead the amount of time you need to finish at the time you want. Then push start and it will count down the time and start when you want it to.

9. Yes, it has.
by ScRAmMbLeDEggS
10. Yes it does. You can add an additional 13 hours to your bread making. :-)
