Just What the Doctor Ordered!!!
My 93 year old father has congestive heart failure among many, many other problems. He has a hard time walking and getting in and out of bed. My husband attached the Medline bed assist bar to his bed and it has made life much easier. He sits on the side of the bed and is able to hang on to the bar and "push" himself into bed. It is also a safely factor which will stop him from accidentally rolling out of bed. Having the Medline Bed Assist Bar give us comfort in knowing he is safe and it has made Dad happy as it has given him independence which is so important to him. The bar is very sturdy so you don't have to worry about it bending in half. This would make a great addition to anyone's home if you or a loved one are experiencing medical issues.

A good concept that doesn't quite work
I have to say that I had very high hopes for the Medline Bed Assist Bar. I couldn't wait for it to arrive. When it did arrive I went right to work assembling it. The assembly instructions were very clear and easy to understand. And like it said there were no tools required which made the assembly quite easy. And even though I am not very mechanically adept it only took me about 20 minutes to read the instructions and to assemble it. There are quite a few height adjustment slots for the legs as well as for the hand grip. So your height and the height of your bed will be accommodated regardless of the height. My bed is very high and I was surprised that it fit just right between my mattress and box spring. I like the fact that there is a pouch attachment because I can put my cell phone and ipad and remote control in the pouch. And I don't have to clutter my night stand anymore. But after the Medline Bed Assist Bar was all assembled and put in place I found that it is very difficult to use. I am right handed. But if I put it on my right side, when I get on the bed the Bed Assist Bar is in the way and I can't swing my legs onto the bed. And if I put it on my left side I find it to be awkward to use because my left side is weaker than my right. Another problem is that when using the Bed Assist Bar to climb onto the bed you have to get onto the bed on your hands and knees. This poses a problem for someone like me who has arthritis in my knees. I wish the manufacturer had a website with a video that shows how someone is supposed to get into bed with this Bed Assist Bar. It sure would help. I'm going to keep trying to find a way to make this work. I hope I eventually have success. But for now I don't think I can recommend it to anyone. Too bad because it started out as a great idea.

Great help to senior with knee problems

I got this for my elderly parent to help her with getting out of bed and prevent falls. It does require assembly but the included directions are somewhat easy to understand and it simply snaps together. It seems to be pretty sturdy and can support you well when leaning on it to stand up out of bed. The center bar simply slides in between your mattress and box spring on most beds. There is a metal loop on the end of the center bar and a long nylon strap that attaches to it and you then loop the strap around the opposite bed rail to prevent the Assist Bar from sliding out accidentally. I tried it without the strap and it's still pretty secure but I do recommend securing it properly with the strap to the opposite bed rail. The legs have rubber feet to prevent it slipping and they can be height adjusted to fit how tall your bed is. The top grab handle has foam padding around it and is easy to hold on to. It too can be adjusted for height. I adjusted it just a few inches off the mattress top so she could swing her legs over it, with it positioned toward the foot of the bed. There is also included a small mesh pouch for storing miscellaneous items you might keep around your bed. Overall, it's well designed, sturdy, safe and it seems to be really helping my parent stand up when getting out of bed. I'd definitely recommend it for anyone with knee problems or even if you just want something secure to grab onto, to help you get on your feet in the morning.

Great - compact, dual purpose $ priced right

My husband fell out of bed and had 9 stitiches. I needed a rail, but didn't want a rail. He already has difficulty getting in and out of bed. This mini rail is great. Stops his moement to the edge, has a pocket to put his CPAP mask in, is used daily as he gets in and out of bed. Perfect!

Great for Anyone

This bar is perfect. It has adjustable legs that fit my bed perfectly. I keep it at the top of the bed for assistance in scooting to the edge of the bed as well as getting out of bed. I put the storage bag on the inside of the bar, which works much better for me than having it on the outside. I also did not attach the strap around the mattress, which allows me to slide the bar out slightly to make the bed. I find that it is still very stable without the strap, however for someone who might be a serious fall risk, the strap would probably be very helpful. I like it that there are legs on this bar. I feel like it adds to its stability. It also has a nicely padded handle. I cannot say enough good things about this product. It would even be nice for someone who does not necessarily need it.

Medline Assist Bedside Bar

This bar has come in very handy for we recently had a situation in our family where my elderly parents were in need of assistance of getting out of bed and getting back in bed. For there are times when there isn't someone right there to help as needed. The bar was very easy to assemble and slide in between the mattresses perfectly. It has a little pocket or pouch on the side for little items you may want to put in there. It seems to be very sturdy. We moved it back and forth on the side of the bed until we found a spot that was more helpful and beneficial for easy usage. For we didn't want to take a chance of our loved one falling trying to use this and get in and out of bed. I think its perfect for those that want or need a little assistance but still want to feel that they have their independence about them, for I understand this very much. Its hard wanting and trying to help those you love when they really cant manage on their own any more. That is one of the reasons I chose this item, was to help but still let them manage some things on their own, I know someday soon I will be at this stage too, and I still would like to feel I still have my dignity about me, and not have to entirely depend on someone else. I would definitely recommend this for anyone that needs personal assistance or has a loved one at home that needs help with small things like this. It was a big help in our house hold.

1. It does not fold, but it comes apart very easily and will lay flat. No tools are needed to assemble or disassemble it.
by Kelley
2. The rail goes between the mattress and the box spring. There is a safety strap that holds it in place. The other, hand rail, goes up to use to get in and out of bed.
by COPetLover
3. As you see the long piece fits inbetween the mattress and box springs and then there is a strap you secure it once you lay it inbetween. There is no way that it's going anywhere as long as you secure the strap tight
by ladiezman452005
4. No, it's not. It has a long piece that slides between your mattress and box springs. That is what anchors it. You can easily move it to wherever you need it the most. No tools needed to put it together.
by usadogs
5. THE BAR IS NOT ATTACHED TO THE BEDFRAME, RATHER A STRAP GOES OVER AND UNDER THE BOX SPRINGS AND THROUGH THE BED ASSIST BAR TO STABILIZE THE BAR. THE MATTRESS IS REMOVED TO PROPERLY INSTALL THE STRAP.
by trinket94
6. IT SLIDES BETWEEN YOUR MATTRESS AND BOX SPRING MATTRESS AND IT HAS A STRAP YOU RUN TO THE OTHER SIDE OF THE BED TO GO AROUND IT SO IT WON'T MOVE..
by JDUB
7. Yes, there is part of the handle's frame that inserts between the boxspring and the matress, and then this piece straps to the bedframe on the other side. Pull this strap taught and the handle becomes very rigid. Great idea and is a must to get the handle to be sturdy. I read some of the negative reviews and feel that they were written without installing the handle properly. When installed correctly, the handle works very well. I found that it works best for me when installed closer to the pillow end of the bed. It allows me to turn more easily in bed and to get in and out of the bed with a lot of ease. For those of you that wrote negative reviews, maybe have someone in your family look at your installation and make corrections if necessary.

8. Yes, the Medline MDS6800BA bed assist rail has straps for added security.

9. I installed bar to a queen bed that was up on a 6" platform riser. It was easy to wrap the strap around the box spring.

1. Yes, this will fit a king sized bed. There is a strap that goes around the mattress to hold it firmly in place. I know that it holds at least 250 lbs
by COPetLover
2. no
by ladiezman452005
3. No don't think so, we put on queen and it was not tall enough.
by newmommy2b2daniel
4. It definitely fits a King sized bed, as long as you have the box spring, too Not a platform bed. Additionally, this item has a strap to secure it but we found it's really quite sturdy even without the strap, just hooked it up for added stability. Your "weight" question I'm assuming is about the strength of the bar staying steady while someone is pulling or leaning on it to get into or out of bed and we've only tested it on 150 lb. people. However, I will say that my 270 lb. husband tried it out and it provided fine "assistance" for him BUT, he was using it ONLY as an aid and not jerking or swinging his entire weight around or against it. Not sure if that makes sense but hope this helps you. This one, by the way, was a great price compared to so many others we looked at and seems to be built just like the others. Good Luck!
by SnowSpirit
5. YES, I'M USING IT ON MY KING BED... IT HAS A STRAP YOU HOOK AROUND THE RAIL ON THE OTHER SIDE UNDER THE MATTRESS TO KEEP IT IN PLACE..
by JDUB
6. Yes,
by 123jazmine
7. I weigh about 250 and it holds well for me. I do not feel the bar that goes between the mattress and the box springs at all so there is no sense of my weight pulling on it at all. I have a king-sized bed and it fits nicely but the strap they supply does not fit a king-sized bed, it's limited to the width of a queen or maybe only a double if you have a really thick mattress. I did not use the strap to hold the appliance in place - the weight of our mattress and getting the legs perfectly arranged by height was all we did.

1. I wouldn't for a few reasons. The design is so the brace bar goes between the mattress and the box spring, and the weight of the mattress helps keep in secure, couch cushions aren't as heavy. There is also a strap that runs from the brace bar to the opposite side of the bed and wraps around the secures to the bedframe for added safety and security, which is not an option on a couch. There are however aids out there that are made for chairs, so look into those, but I would not recommend this product for anything other than a bed.
by AKCoo
2. anonymous - This bar was not designed for a Sofa or a sofa sleeper. Which means it was not tested on them, but, that doesn't mean it won't work, we simply haven't tried it.
by Medline
3. I DON'T THINK SO.. THE BARS THAT GO UNDER YOUR MATTRESS ARE KINDA LONG FOR SUPPORT.. UNLESS YOU HAVE A DEEP SOFA..
by JDUB
4. Depends on the sofa -one long heavy cushion [probably yes] vs several light small cushions [probably not].. It is adjustable, so more likely than not, unless the pillows are small & light.
