I helped my son to build it and we had so much fun putting it together. The instructions are clear and easy to follow. It took us several hours to build it, and it turns out a great way to connect with him. I saw his huge interest of building stuff. He is very involved on following steps, looking for the right parts and work hard to make it work. He owns several robots and by far this is his favorite. He always plays with it. The robot is very intuitive and smart. So many things you can do from storing commands, telling a joke, interacting with it and more advance actions. He like the fact that he can just command the robot to sleep and saves the battery, press any button to wake him up. Overall, this is a great way for my son to explore and learn robotics. He is now thinking of rebuilding and making it a different figure.

This Little Robot is so much fun.
The Meccano Meccanoid G15 Robot is an awesome toy. My son and my husband enjoyed working together to build him, it took them 5 hours to complete his construction. The box he comes in has all the 600 parts separated into neat compartments. You will have to buy the 4 C batteries it requires separately.Once the 4 C batteries were put in and all of the Meccano Meccanoid parts and wires were in placed and hooked up, the Robot will do an interactive systems check with you. It was so funny because my husband had put a wire in the wrong place and the Robot kept saying something like “that's not right”. Then after a few more minutes it said “starting self destruct count down” and our son ran out the room. I laughed but I was about ready to run out the room myself. Of course it was a joke, you will find this little Robot has a lot of personality. After everything checked out the Robot was ready for play. Their is also a free down loadable App your child can use that is specifically for this Robot. The Robot is able to tell jokes, do a high five, dance, exercise and so much more. However the batteries didn't last the entire day and they were brand new. We went out then and got our son a battery charger and some rechargeable batteries which I would highly recommend for this toy. This such a great toy and it would make a great gift for any child 10 years old and older.
This robot is great! We just got this and the other maccanoid robot today and I couldn't believe how many pieces there is! It is not for people with no patience that's for sure. I got it for my daughter and I to have something to do together. We haven't gotten it put together yet but I'm so excited to see the finished product. I think we might have it done by Christmas time I hope. We plan to do a little here and there. Thankfully once you get so far the robot guides you through the rest of it. I'm not very good at putting things together but I figured if the robot talks me through it I can figure it out. It turns into other things besides a robot so we can play with this over and over. It's really big too so I think my daughter will love it being her size. I think it's worth every penny! You can pass this toy down from kid to kid and they would each get so much use out of it. This would make a wonderful Christmas gift! I wouldn't recommend it for really small kids because of all the small pieces included. I think even a teenager or adult would enjoy this.
Tedious build but well worth it. FANTASTIC TOY.
THE BUILD: FIRST ATTEMT After 1 1/2 hours, an adult who puts together the most involved lego sets, was extremely frustrated. It's very difficult to get those tiny little nuts and bolts into those tiny little spaces they belong in. Directions are clear, but not easy. The order of the materials in the box is horrible. No order to it at all as you would expect in a building set. Not at all like the most difficult legos. This is definitely not a put together set for the average 10 year old or adult. It is doable for a very determined 10 and up very mechanically minded individual. We are taking a break. SECOND ATTEMT After returning to the project, the first adult quit and admitted defeat. The second adult is attempting to take over the project. Responses are not positive so far. Definitely not a positive family bonding session yet. Second adult took a break after 2 hours of work. The problem with the first builder was her lack of experience putting together items with nuts and bolts and knowing how to use locking nuts, etc. This would be a perfect project for the right 10 year old or above. Need to love putting things together. We don't, but we will endure because we want the final result. Later, we were glad we did. FINAL POSITIVE ATTEMT After returning to this project, both the initial adult builder and her Dad, the build became much easier. A VERY GOOD family bonding session. Once they understood how to use the tools properly it became fun, just tedious and long. They were glad they did it together. Sooooo, any family that has experience building with tools and legos WILL enjoy this task. Our robot is now complete and we are proud of our work! PLAYING WITH THE ROBOT; THE FUN PART: Learning to interact with the robot is easy. He comes with a command list and he also provides directional help. So far he can high five, dance, tell a joke, exercise and move from commands like forward , backward, etc. and we have only played with him for 5 minutes. He is very, very cute. Worth the tedious build. I highly recommend him. I am looking forward to many hours of fun with him. He will be like another member of the family. I can't wait to connect my phone to him so he can use my camera and mimic my moves. He has voice recognition that works very well. This makes playing so much fun. We have so much more to learn about him and will play with him as often as we can! The best toy ever!
Meccano is his name!
With Christmas right around the corner we all are thinking about finding the perfect gift. My son started building on the robot right away. My son has always been good with Legos and building things. Although he didn't ask for Meccano I just knew he would love it and enjoy putting it together. He did have a little difficulty putting him together on his own. So yes a little parental help is a good idea. It comes all dismantled. It has instruction book that has pictures to help you a long to get the robot together. You need follow instructions word by word or you will have stuff upside down or back words. The only thing you might need that isn't in the box is a screwdriver and you will need three C batteries. When you get him built and put batteries in and turn him on he will go through a diagnostic test to see if everything is working correctly. We had an arm backwards. Ok fixed. Meccano is really cool you can do updates on your iPhone or hook him up to a computer. He talks, walks, dances, high five, whistles and much more Had us laughing. He also has a place in his chest to set your iPhone or iPod in without a case on it and he will interact with you and or mimic your movement. A fun toy for all kids. Age on the box says 10+. Just make sure you have enough batteries on hand. Im thinking about getting rechargeable batteries just for him. Although we have only played with him a few times so we still don't know everything he is capable of doing I know we will have years of fun with him. I can't wait to see what else he can do.
HOW COOL IS THIS ROBOT?!
This has GOT to be the coolest toy of the year! I received it as part of the Spark Reviewer Program, and I must say, IT IS AWESOME! IT took a little time to put together (about 5 hours), but once you get started putting the Meccanoid G15 together, he instantly comes alive! It's easy to finish him. The possibilities are endless as far as how you build him. We used the standard build that came in the box. The instructions are very well written and easy to understand. Most of it is repetitive because you have to build one thing for the left, then the same thing over again for the right. Once built, you have the capability of naming your robot. We chose Bob as it is easy to understand and easy for my youngest to say. You can program different movements also. We use the android App to connect "Bob" by Bluetooth and create new movements for him. You can change all kinds of stuff with the App - movements, sounds, lights, ect. Surprisingly, he is very responsive to our commands, and super easy to program new commands. It keeps us entertained for a while. He does need 4 C batteries to operate (and if you use it a lot, the batteries die rather quickly), so I'd advise to have some on hand. He is certainly a fun companion to keep around!
Amazing fun toy for all ages
I received this macccano robot from Walmart spark review to use and give honest reviews about, here is my experience. This robot comes unessambeld and a kid can build it with adult's help. There are 80+ steps to build his robot. And 600+ pieces and screws and stuff and they all were mixed, but in different bagies, What I did was (I already had ziplock for reusing purpose for toys like Lego etc) from step 1 to 80+ I put all pieces of each step including screws and bolt thingie in ziplocks and wrote number with permanent marker. I had to use 50+ ziplocks because some step didn't require any. and put back in the box so now we just had to put it together, it helped us to build it quickly without wasting time in finding next steps pieces and screws because they already were in next Baggie. it was really easy to assemble, if you follow he instructions but it was time consuming it took 2+ hours to assemble the whole thing. But it was worth it. You will have to have c 4 batteries to go with it. It picks the pitch and tone of person and record it you can name him of your choice also you can teach him your name, there are couple of menu options, in main menu, it tells joke, high fives walk with you surly not the stairs but just plain floor with or without carpet will work. About the jokes someone said he didn't repeat any joke, mine repeats his jokes over and over again. There Are only six or seven jokes recoded. In motion control he can walk forward backward turns around, dance, exercise, kungfu etc. it defiantly is a good toy, for Brain development too because it takes effort to build. If you don't talk to him he goes to sleep and your battery doesn't gets wasted. Oh and one more thing it changes his eye color so you can tell in whit menu he is in, for example main menu is green motion control is yellow settings is red etc. would defiantly recommend it.
Intricate building 'toy'
As a Walmart Spark Reviewer I selected this product to receive free in exchange for my honest review of it...here goes! I'm hesitant to start with the build part because it was a little glitchy and I don't want to scare anyone off with that since the end result was so very worth it! I would definitely do it all over again to get to the satisfaction of doing this project with my kids and building our very own, FUN, personal robot,...I feel like we gave birth to him lol I think it's best to start from the beginning: First impression upon opening the box, everything was neatly bagged and packed in seperate compartments, but seeing the shear amount of pieces to this robot in person was overwhelming although I knew to expect there would be 600 parts (to be fair, 195 of them are 1/2" bolts and 217 nuts). The instructions are mostly in pictures (which makes sense since it covers like 14 languanges) but the pictures are not always very clear to see on things like which exact hole you need to put a bolt in to attach two pieces, color of pieces aren't clearly distinguishable between black and grey, which was the top or bottom to face out/in, and one part was completely different in color design from the picture (turned out none of this really effected the turn out of our Meccanoid, Robby, even tho his legs are half black instead of his neck :). Do yourself a major favor- I wish now in hindsight we would've done- to save time and confusion... familiarize yourself with the parts first by doing an inventory of the parts against the super handy parts checklist! It would have been a great help at times if the part numbers from the part checklist were on the pieces for easy identification especially because we hadn't done the inventory. It would've been nice if the provided allen key tool came magnetized for ease of trying to pick up small bolts/nuts & holding bolts in place as you try to manipulate needing 3 fingers sometimes (we ended up slapping and rubbing the allen key on a strong magnet to give it some magnetic power). My 11 year old daughters' small fingers really came in handy in some tight places! A couple times I really needed a shorter allen key to reach a few tight spaces the regular one really couldn't fit to tighten properly. All in all, it took me and my two kids (son 14) just over 10 hours, over a two day period, to get to the part where you put in the batteries (which is pretty much the end of the build part :). Be sure to have FOUR fresh C batteries on hand before you get to this part- I thought I had batteries but they didn't work and we were so disappointed we had gotten to the exciting "PLAY" part only to have to wait to run out to the store for new batteries. "PLAY"! The moment we've been building for! It was so exciting to see his eyes light up (my son and Meccanoids :), he start moving and talking to us...success! The jokes were corny but kid appropriately funny. We had him dancing, exercising, and doing Kung Fu in a flash. Next, we had him go into 'Settings' and raise his volume so we could hear him better (we had a good laugh over his comment over this :) The kids wanted to do "everything" with him so we downloaded the Meccanoid App, turned on the Bluetooth, and started creating dance moves for him to perform for us, played 'Simon Says' with him,...we all had a great time thinking up things to make him do but there's still other things we haven't gotten to yet like "Ragdoll" that we are looking forward to. I think if you have an older child, like my son, who used to be a Lego fanatic but "out grew that phase", this is the perfect next step in continuing to nurture their building creativity in a more mature way they can have fun with and be proud of.
Great toy for children who like to discover
Pros: - What I love about this toy is it can be controlled either on the smartphone or via the smartphone's camera when I put on the belly's robot - The robot is quite tall, as tall as my Civic's tire - It has voice recognition - Fun preset moves - My kid is still a little bit too young to enjoy assembling the robot but 8 years old children who love to discover will enjoy this robot. At least my kid will enjoy disassembling it and changing its shape when older Cons: - Unfortunately, not all phones can control the robot according to the manual - It uses batteries not included. I wished it was included and rechargeable to avoid the hassle buying batteries - Parts are not "varied" leading to few shape possibilities - Takes too much time to assemble, I wished parts could be "clipped" together and taken out faster like Lego but not easily dismantled like Lego so that I can concentrate on making any desired shape. - Voice recognition seems not working well - This model can't move the head and fingers can't be controlled - Motor sound is annoying a little bit - This robot seems to have lots of potential uses but the app is a little bit limited
Great Project For Older Kids!
Upon receiving the Meccano Meccnoid G15 Robot, my daughters (ages 6 & 7) were excited to try and build it and play with it. This wish was short lived as we were completely lost. The instructions had plenty of illustrations but some of the most important pieces of information were either not clear enough to follow or not even listed. In any event, we ended up gifting the robot to our cousin who is much older and loved building it! Building it requires piecing 600+ pieces and 7-10 hours approximately. Once built, it has cool capabilities like voice recognition, 1000+ built in pre-programmed phrases, witty comments, telling jokes, etc. It's a great glimpse into the world of robotics. Once built, programming is easy... it has a built in Meccabrain which contains 64 megabits of flash memory allowing it to learn movements and record sounds that play back. It can be programmed in 3 ways: 1) You can move its arms or speak to it and it records what you're doing and repeats it back to you. 2) You can place your smart device into Meccanoid's chest, activate the Motion Capture feature and be amazed as Meccanoid mirrors your every action. or 3) You can swipe the on-screen Ragdoll avatar to make Meccanoid twist, turn or move any way you want. We didn't try to build it in Dinosaur mode yet but from what I read online, many of the features that work in Humanoid mode don't work in Dinosaur mode.
