Very educational and fun

My son totally enjoyed the this device. He loves to build things and I love when he plays with something that stimulates his mind. Well this product definitely surpassed both of our expectations. I am also looking into buying the rest of the line of products offered. That's how much we both loved it. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Super fun!

This was a great activity to keep my 8 year old son away from his XBox! He definitely needed my help to build it - I probably did about 80% of the construction. If I had read through the instructions better ahead of time, I'd have been able to guide him rather than take over. He's having a lot of fun with figuring out the programming, and in all honesty, I've left him to that all on his own. It's a great toy! [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

What a Fun Toy

My 12-year-old son loves building things, so I expected this would be a perfect toy for him. It turned out I was totally right. When he got Micronoid Code ACE, he simply could not put it down. He spent a little more than an hour assembling it. Even though it took longer than the time described in the instruction, he enjoyed every minute of the work, especially using different small tools in the kit. The instruction was easy for him to follow. We then had a great family time, playing the robot for different modes. I particularly like the "answering Yes/no questions" part ("8-ball mode"). Its honest answers gave us a good laugh. My son is about to download the programming software to create unique walking and talking programs. He will need some time to learn how to do that. I am glad this toy has motivated him to learn something new. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Fun from start to finish

I built the Meccano ACE with my 12 year old son, we had a blast building it and the instructions were very clear and easy to follow. Once we had ACE built we spent many hours playing with him and trying new commands. There is so much to do with ACE you will find yourself losing track of time, not only building him but also playing with him once the build is complete. AMAZING and INTERESTING TOY

It's hard to call this a "toy", but that what it's marketing as, and the target audience is kids. HOWEVER, this is much more than a toy! It is unique, fun, challenging, high tech, and the perfect gift for boys and girls that are just beginning to take interest in tech. My son is in the 4th grade and is 10 years old and he was in awe of this robot! He spent a good 3 hours when he first got it reading the instructions and trying out everything the robot has to offer. He especially loved the interactive parts of the robot - and has even begun to work with the coding! What I love is that even though coding is a very complicated process, this robot makes it attainable for kids so they feel challenged yet not overwhelmed and frustrated! I chose to not help him with the instructions and just sit back and see how he did. My first reaction after reading it myself was that he would be quickly overwhelmed - but it was the complete opposite! He was sucked in and enthralled by all that he could do with the Mecanno Robot. We highly recommend this for this years holiday wish list!! [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Interesting and Challenging

My 10 year old son was very excited to try and build this ACE Meccano interactive robot. I was especially excited too as it is promoted as a STEM toy making it both fun and educational. My son is quite impatient and frustrates easily, so for his type of temperament-building it in less than an hour was not possible. It did take him several days to put parts of the robot together simply because he felt the instructions were not clear enough. I'm sure for the average child and family-this would not be the case. He tends to over analyze information thus delaying a more favorable outcome. However, with patience and guidance, he was able to focus on completing the project steps. The pieces did not seem to fit together as smoothly as expected. We had to disassemble some areas on several occasions where items did not line up exactly as they should-in most cases-that could be overlooked-but my son being a perfectionist on top of being overly analytical-made this aspect of the project even more of a challenge. He both enjoyed and had a hard time with this toy but that's just because of his personality. As a parent-I do think this is a great toy because it encourages focus, patience, problem solving, and direction following. For my "over achiever," a toy like this adds frustration-but it's a good thing because it forces that type to work through the difficulty to get the reward of a final product. Meccano Micronoid Code A.C.E. Robot

I find it important that regardless of what I purchase for my children that it be somewhat educational besides just being fun. The Meccano Micronoid Code A.C.E. does fulfill that requirement. It is essentially a programmable robot which will require some slight and tedious, but easy assembly using the tools which are also included. After that, it is just a matter of learning its full capabilities through trial and error use. The unit itself will require 4 AAA batteries in order to operate. There is a control panel on the top of its head which will allow the user to interact with the robot after connecting to your computer which then allows you to program Micronoid Code's movements and sounds through an easy-to-use drag-and-drop programming screen. Saving pre-recorded messages using the record talk button can later be used for the walk and talk feature. The company does claim the robot requires kids to draw on concepts from science, technology, engineering and math. That might be somewhat of a stretch, but it does require your child to engage in some thought process which is much better than playing mindless video games. It is recommended for kids aged 8+ although I can see someone as young as 6 having fun with this. When not in use, the unit will remain in sleep mode. However there are other settings available including DJ mode which will play some sweet tunes, fighting mode, 8-ball mode for Yes/No responses and even autonomous mode which will allow it to have a mind of its own. I love the concept of this robot and it is very intriguing for any child. But it is too limited in the total number of functions it can provide and may not be able to keep a child's attention after several months of use. Even in this primitive form, I'd still recommend other parents give it a try because future upgrades in features may become available later on. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Robotics Fun!

I was super excited to have my 8 year old review this toy. My kids get STEM enrichment in school and this is completely on target with what they are learning. A total win-win for me. My 8 year old did have a difficult time with assembly, could be a matter of patience at this age and tiny parts. I happily completed it and we did the rest together. It was a process, so be patient and set time aside. It was worth it in the end to see how excited he was to test out the robot he built. Pretty cool to see him play with something of meaning and purpose. I would say possibly better for a slightly older child for the building purposes alone. Great educational toy.
