DC Motor Drive for Meade Polaris series Equatorial Telescopes adds continuous RA tracking to telescope, so operator does not need to manually operate RA slow motion control to keep objects in the eyepiece. For use with Meade Polaris German Equatorial Mount only. The Meade Polaris Electric RA Motor Drive attaches easily and directly to the Polaris EQ mount in under five minutes. With the motor drive attached and turned on, the telescope can move at the sidereal rate to track any celestial object and keep it centered in the telescopic field. With the variable speed adjustment, you can quickly and easily change the tracking speed to track the moon, planets or sun (proper solar filtering required). The motor drive will keep the object in the field of view for 10 to 20 minutes before re-centering is required on a well polar aligned mount. Polar alignment required for use. Once installed, the RA motor drive may be left permanently attached to the telescope.

Not a great drive motor

I had high hopes for this little motor drive, however, I received a package from Meade that contained no motor drive. It was instead a part for a telescope completely unrelated. So, I returned the totally wrong item that was shipped to me. I decided to reorder it from another retailer. Here's my review of the motor once I got the right item. This motor drive will not track stars and planets with ease. It has a variable motor that is impossible to calibrate properly. It does not track at sidereal rate (earth's rotation). It's either too fast or too slow and you will never get clear images if you're trying to use this with a camera - due to motion blur. It also stops and won't start half the time when you turn it on. It also disables your fine adjustment knob for the RA Axis, so you have to manually align your scope, which is VERY difficult to do. All-in-All, I don't recommend this. The only thing positive I can say is that it will slow down the movement of planets to keep them in the field of view a little longer.
